The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Has anyone else gotten Broken Steel for the PS3 version?

If so, has anyone else's PS3 Fallout 3 turned into a buggy-as-hell mess?

I swear, ever since installing BS and getting the associated patch the game frequently chugs in the Wasteland for minutes at time (we're talking probably a sub-15fps framerate or worse at times, and you can see the HDD light just blinking away like mad, this lasts for at least 30-60 seconds when it happens) and I've had two game freezes during firefights - one just a random firefight in the wasteland, the other the fight after you enter the base in the first BS mission.
yes, my Fallout 3 is now practically unplayable, crashes every 20 minutes or so. i'm so fucking pissed. pretty much my favorite game and i paid for the DLC and really can't play it :I ....... Fallout 3 used to run fine pre-DLC/pre-3.00. i don't know which one to blame, because after fw 3.00 some other games started acting weirdly (KZ2 audio issues and ridiculously long loadtimes). i hate this situation, wanted to play more Fallout 3 so badly... i'll keep trying but it's no fun. and i tried re-installing but to no effect.

I'm holding off on DL'ing Broken Steel until I hear from Bethesda. For me it would make sense just to DL just 3 stuff like I posted, but if the game becomes unplayable WTF? I'm going to wait until I hear their response.

EDIT: Weird thing is after the update I played Fallout 3 a bit yesterday. Not a single glitch... or the problem is in how the DLC is interacting with the Fallout 3 new update. Something is not meshing...

Not liking what I'm reading in here, Guess I'll hold off too.

Will be interesting to hear from people who get the GOTY edition.

God damn it, I bought Broken Steel, haven't installed it yet... are they going to fix it?

dlc does something weird with system ram, I read somewhere all the dlc needs to be loaded at once and parts of the structure of the pit actually started losing its collision detection due to lack of system ram available?

lotta snake oil imo, was still interesting tho

Need a lil' help please...

I am at Vault 112, in the simulation and have spoken to Betty, who wants me to go make Timmy cry. When I talked to Timmy, I told him that Betty wants me to make him cry and he replies about her being mean. I go back to Betty and she still wants me to make him cry, but my only other option in the conversation with him is to lie to him that his parents are getting a divorce, for which I then lose karma.

Is there anyway to continue without losing karma?

If you want to end the whole thing without losing Karma, head into the abandoned house and activate the sequence of items (radio, pitcher, gnome, pitcher, cinder block, gnome and cola) to make the computer console appear.

Does anyone know if the GOTY version will work with a save from the regular game?

The GOTY version is likely just going to install the DLC to the HDD like Oblivion did. Otherwise, it's still the same game.

I am displeased as well. Frame rate becomes choppy as hell, freezes during combat, the sound of a firing gatling laser starts to play out of nowhere. Makes it sound as if there is construction work going on nearby. Gatling laser beam sometimes will not show when Fawkes is firing at enemies. Speech and other sounds are sometimes out of sync. It's a mess. I remember having so much fun before BS. Further DLC purchases are unlikely.

Thinking of finally returning the rental, had it since March. Reached yesterday the L30 level cap and finished Broken Steel. Fantastic expansion. Completed also Pitt and Anchorage. I feel in terms of story, levels and items I have now closure, and the UFO thing or the eerie swamp thing or whatever don't add anything substantial. Are those the last expansions?

Dude Point Lookout is the best fucking DLC. Ok so it doesn't give you lvl 30 but if you are not yet lvl 30 then Point Lookout is awesome. As a matter of fact it's still awesome even if you are level 30.

Ffffuuuuuuu.... I had it already slipped into an envelope.

I wonder if there is chance of another expansion with a higher level cap, say 35 or 40, or is Bethesda pretty much done with Fallout 3 now? Because if there are more expansions come later, then I just might pick up the game on the cheap and return my rental.

Trying to push my way through this game on PC still. I like the game a lot, but I'm kinda rushing just cause I have so many other games to play. Not really planning on doing DLC right now, but I'm hearing a lot of good things here about Point Lookout/Broken Steel, so maybe sometime down the line I'll check em out.

I've only put about 25 hours in so far, did a few of the sidequests and
I've just gotten the GECK
. I had heard that there were multiple endings, but are there only a few substantial ones? Will I have to pick up the DLC for some closure?

I put in just under 80 hours to reach the L30 cap and to do 3 expansions. The only one that is absolutely needed, in my opinion, is Broken Steel. Not only does it rise your level cap, but it gives (more) closure to the story and provides an absolutely amazing weapon.

I've read up on a few forums... the glitch is hit-or-miss, some had no probs whatsoever with Broken Steel DLC, some had some probs but a re-install fixed it, and some have had no satisfaction whatsoever.

I would say for the people who DL'ed it and are having issues, un-install it and try playing again WITHOUT the DLC for like a minute. Re-install the DLC and then try it.

This has probably been asked a lot but is there anyway to get this game to stop freezing on PC?

I've owned this for 360 and dominated it ended up selling it before the DLC, picked it up for PC, its a clean install I've gotten all the DLC besides Point Lookout.

I have a pretty beast computer too and can run a ton of other games with no problems. Its definitely on Fallout 3's side.

I've tried reintalling and updating to 1.7 and that did nothing to fix it.

I've never had it crash on my PC. What are you guys doing with your PCs? :lol

Love Fallout 3, enjoyed the DLC when it worked properly. What kills me is that I waited so long for the PS3 to get the DLC and I was pumped for Point Lookout. I can't believe that it freezes up constantly. I know Fallout would have its occasional hiccups, but PL freezes at every turn. Go in VATS-freeze, fight enemies real time-freeze, go through door- screen stays black. Frame rate drops so bad it becomes unplayable. Sorry for the complaining, I'm just frustrated as hell. The kicker is that PL has some of my favorite quests and the atmoshere is unbelievable.

I'm coming back to this game after having beaten it +all DLC except for MZ, which was shit so it didn't matter.

I started fresh with a new character. I've decided to make him more focused in a few skills, mainly ones I rarely used on my first playthrough. Mainly Science, Repair and Explosives.

I'm also doing one of those "act in character things" where I act on how my character would act, not what is best for me, the player.

So basically my guy is a Scientist addicted to Psycho. So whenever my character has had his "fix" of psycho, I'll act with good karma. But if I'm suffering from withdrawal, I'll act with bad karma.

I'm also doing a lot more exploring on my second playthrough, and I'm going to try and do as much as possible without fast traveling. I want to see all the cool "mini quests" and things that I didn't catch on the first run.

God I fucking love this game.

i gotta say i've lost all my respect for Bethesda. i paid 50 euros (what like 70 dollars? :E nice fucking pricing) for all the DLC on PSN and it's the most unplayable garbage i have EVER experienced. to think i trusted them to release them bug-free after all these months of waiting.. :/ i'm so stupid sometimes. but what can i do? i can't return DLC. i just wrote a complaint to them but i doubt they'll ever respond. i want at the very least an answer from them, why did they do this? they MUST know how badly coded the DLC is. everyone can see it, my friends are saying the same, people are barely able to finish any quests. seriously Bethesda, what the hell is WRONG with you? i'm fucking disgusted, i don't even feel like gaming anymore.

Does anyone know if the GOTY X360 version will be region free? Play-Asia hasn't confirmed yet.

Of note Oblivion GOTY (N.America) was PAL compatible as well but not NTSC - Japan.

oh...feel bad for PS3 players, I mean if you love Fallout 3, why not getting it on PC initially, it has the GECK editor too

I got a peak at the box for the GOTY edition tonight. It's in a holographic paper sleeve. Shiny!

I'm hoping the GOTY edition runs smoothly. I'm trading in my copy of Fallout 3 towards it this week.

So my first and only playthrough up to level 20 was with a small guns, high repair character. What should I do next?

Unarmed?

Yikes, I think I'll just sell my copy on Craigslist, $25-30 is the usual price.

Yeah, it's basically a wash compared to buying all of the DLC. I may hold off a bit and see if I can get it on sale at some point in the future.

I think I'll sell my copy and wait to get it for around $45.

Damn i'm hooked again..
I really, really loved Oblivion, i think i put over 150 hours in that game, so i was pretty hyped last year for Fallout, played through the Main Story and was kinda disapointed, couldn't put my finger on it but i just couldn't get in to it. So i sold it and moved on to Gears2/ Deadspace etc.
Rebought it last weekend because i'm kinda waiting for Forza 3, picked a save right before the point of no return, and i have to say, i'm having a blast now. I'm just exploring the world and its awesome.
I do miss some things from Oblivion though, the customizing of your spells/weapons/gear was so much better and extensiv.

fuck , I had a weird glitch happen to me in point lookout , right after the beginning (pc version) .

After the ghoul told me to clean his house , we were to the part where the savages came in the main entrance by destroying the boarded doors ...

well after the first two waves , nothing happened . when I tried talking to the ghoul , he just told me that he was busy fighting and didn't have time to talk to me . I'll try again later hoping that it won't happen again .
