The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

the goty version is still $60!!
i got a $25 gift card at gamestop,, and i was thinking of getting the vanilla version of fallout 3 for only $20.

are the DLC really that worth it?? how long is the vanilla Fallout 3 ?

i think i'm going to buy new vegas day one, i waited for the GOTY and i just blew through most of the content and have a bunch undone. I realized that if i would of gotten the game at launch i would of enjoyed all the dlc, instead of doing a 100 hour in two weeks =(, i would of had time to enjoy everything.

You will at least need to get the Brotherhood of Steel DLC to raise to level cap to 30. The rest go from meh (Operation Anchorage, Mothership Zeta) to ok and maybe even good (The Pitt, Point Lookout). Too bad you're not in Europe because you can get the GOTY super cheap from the UK. If you can't find the GOTY cheap than buy vanilla+Brotherhood of Steel because the vanilla game can easily last you 60+ hours.

arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh

It's "would have" please

Question time!

The general consensus in GAF is to stay away from the GOTY PS3 edition. Will I be ok if I get the regular edition and buy the DLC? (is the DLC available on PS3?).

I don't have a PC good enough to run this game at the moment, but I do want to play it. Can't afford a 360S right now either, so PS3 is the only option. What say you GAF?

:lol I'm sorry!

so guys this is a little OT but I'm getting Fallout Vegas... for 9.99 on Amazon day 1:D , but I'm willing to wait for some good mods... This is the first time playing on PC for me. How long will I have to wait for good mods after launch day..?

The only DLC i would get it broken steel. I thought I just had to play the others and MEH no where near as good as the vanilla game.

Ledsen said:
The GOTY version is simply the normal version packaged with the DLC, so getting them separately won't make any difference.
Thank you. I thought I had read that the GOTY version was all faulty but the regular one not so much. So what I'm thinking is that after installing the DLC it all goes south?

Eh, I'll keep saving for that gaming PC then, thanks!

I think The Pitt is good, and Operation Anchorage is different enough from the main game to make it quite fun and interesting (having to use stock guns, and having to find healing stations instead of being able to use healing items means you can't just plow through everything). Point Lookout is good, albeit ridiculously short.

Mothership Zeta sucks balls though. It felt like I was playing a different game entirely. A shit one.

just IMO here, but mods are best reserved for the second play through. play it as the developers intended first, then the second time through go crazy with mods (which should be around by then) + see whatever you missed the first time.

See that's the thing... I'm a one time gamer... with these type of games(also RPG)... I played 133 hours of fallout 3 on one save... I did everything. I'm willing to wait for a month if need be or longer. I just want to experience mods for fallout this time

well assuming the Fallout3 "Garden of Eden Creation Kit" (that's the mod SDK) is forwards compatible they should start showing up within the first week. I don't see why it wouldn't be, and come to think of it, a lot of the Fallout3 mods will probably work in New Vegas. in that case you'd be good to go from day one :D

i finally got it!! the vanilla version.
can anyone here tell me any tips for a newcomer!
like what should i do after getting out of the vault, should i proceed do the main quest or do side quest??

i feel like the first time playing oblivion when you just got out of the sewer!

I'd wait a bit before you go into the DC area. A really nice string of quests is with Moria, who owns the shop in Megaton to fill out a wasteland survival guide. Good way to get started I think. Also, get your explosive? skill up to 30 ASAP and get your house in Megaton for disarming the bomb (Unless you're planning to go evil.)

Go slow, take it seriously, and do EVERYTHING.

:D

Oh, and beware there is no end-game free-roam, so you'll likely want to keep a mid-3/4 game save handy.

Enjoy.

no need to get it to 30, you can eat mentats and disarm/arm the bomb. Arming the bomb brings you a house in a more fancy place. But I think it may be better to disarm it for a newcomer.

I played it vanilla first time and I regret that there was no Wanderer Edition at the time. It's the only way to enjoy the game since AI and shooting are reworked (also a lot of other features).

Man, they ARE CLOSED :lol You should've left the place.

What?! :lol I had noticed that the doors lock after a certain time. Didn't think much of it. You would think they would try and kill Paulie Cantelli for stealing chems. but, no!

On my third playthrough. It's still awesome! I think Three-Dog is even saying different things.

I'd heard them say things like "We're closing. You need to leave" and I would always leave. I wanted to see what happened if I didn't leave. A couple of the people will start yelling at you and following you around and eventually everyone flips out and turns hostile. :lol

Can you kill them without penalty?

I hope you killed them all?

My biggest problem with Broken Steel was the new Scorpion, Ghoul and Super Mutant enemies. They weren't more challenging, just really really annoying with way to much HP, nothing really killed them effectively.
Good lord, I came here to ask about this, actually.

I'm in the Garden of Eden mission and I'm up against constant Overlords. Normally, I just Fat Man them, but I've only got 2 left and I think I've still got a ways to go.

What other strategies are there? I tend to use 4 to 5 medpacks if I take them with normal weapons and I'm running low on those, too. I really dont want to have to leave and come back, so any help would be appreciated.

Shoot their weapons. They can't do much if they have nothing to shoot you with :) They'll run away, looking for something else though. If you're fast, you can run up and steal their guns on the ground :lol Melee seems to work fine according to gamefaqs. They pissed me off enough to use the glitches in Operation: Anchorage though. Then you won't need a strategy whatsoever, basically. I think you're pretty close to the end though, so you won't be running in to that many more super mutants during the story missions to be honest.

If an overlord isn't carrying a tri-beam rifle then you can reverse pickpocket a grenade or mine onto him. Or like Minamu said, destroy their weapon.

I got the Nuka Cola Quantum Perk so i just kill all Albino Scorpions and Overlords with Nuka Cola Grenades. Grenades are easy to keep in stock because you can find Nuka Cola everywhere and some stores even sell them.

I finished The Pitt today and finally got my 4 final achievements :D The ingots weren't that bad (with youtube :P). Sadly, achievement hysteria makes it hard to enjoy the stand-alone DLCs for me :(

Quick question: Get the GOTY version for the PS3 or 360?

Unless you're stuck with a 40+ hour save on the PS3 version, like me, go with 360.

Speaking of, does anyone know if the Euro Fallout 3 GOTY can read a US save file?

I am not. I was kinda leaning to the graphics comparison. Which version looks better?

Just finished Point Lookout for the first time. Now returning to main quest to get to Broken Steel. Played The Pitt and Op Anchorage on an older save. Don't know if I'll be returning.

Never bought Mothership Zeta. Is it worth the $10? Or should I just wait for New Vegas. Reviews make me want to pass, but I don't trust reviews.

If you're playing on Xbox they're on sale for $5 (not sure how much longer though).

Zeta isn't that great, but $5 is worth it. You get some neat new energy weapons.

Zeta is the worst of the DLCs but there is a ton of awesome loot in it. Max out your repair and carry limit and you can get lots of great stuff.

Mothership Zeta has its moments, but unless you have nothing else worth playing, you should probably just wait for New Vegas.

So I'm giving the game another shot after not really giving it a chance when it first came out and I'm really enjoying it. I think now that I'm more patient with it and don't go guns blazing it's more fun. It's a nice inbetween of my usual FPS tendencies and my current playthrough with Planescape: Torment.

About to start the GOTY edition soon. Never played any of the other fallout games though.. Will I get a synopsis of the fallout story so far when I begin?

No you don't, but I don't think it's necessary. It's linked to the other games in theme but it's a separate story (I haven't played those games either, mind).

Going in blind to the earlier Fallouts is probably for the best. Its similar to how if the first Star Wars movie you watch is Phantom Menace you wont be let down.

So whats going on? I just got out of the vault and I'm only encountering enemies that are too strong for me.. Is this because I'm not going straight to megaton, but just exploring the other direction? I also installed broken steel all ready and that raised the level cap..
