Shishka made a really nice post about what happened with the 7o7 playlist which also includes insight into the grifball betrayal thing as well:
So it seems they have a new process in place for playlist management. This maybe a temporary thing while Shishka's time is primarily focused on Reach or it could be a more permanent thing that'll extend into Reach's MM.
Anyways, I was surprised to see such a reasonable apology and really glad he was a little more transparent about the system. I don't know exactly why but the post made me feel a lot better about Bugnie's commitment to the forging community.
Shishka said:All of that would be very nice, were it so easy. Unfortunately we can't simply "fix" a single hopper, so I'm afraid this month is at a loss.
After spending some time rooting around, yelling at people, and cursing into the air, we've figured out what went wrong. See, we've changed the pipeline here such that, whereas before I was directly responsible for all updates to map variants and hopper changes, I now direct those changes which are then made by other people, so as to give me more time to work on Reach without completely abandoning Halo 3 Matchmaking, which no one here wants to do.
Unfortunately it seems there are still rough edges/loose ends/idiom describing incompleteness and the need for refinement in our new pipeline. A miscommunication, or series thereof, resulted in the updated maps being pulled down from file shares, grouped together, prepped, playtested, and approved (save a couple), but somehow not actually impelemented in the production environment.
If I lost any of you, the short version is that after all of our testing someone didn't push the button to add them to our public Matchmaking release, thus the return of the old maps in lieu of the updated ones. This is, incidentally, how Ranked Grifball ended up with betrayal booting and respawn penalties.
This sucks, simply put. For the authors and players because everyone was expecting refined content, and for us because we took resources away from Reach to make it happen and it didn't happen. On the bright side these changes are all set and ready for January, but that doesn't really resolve that it didn't happen when I said it would, and for that I apologize. All I can really offer is that in the future we're ironing out this new process and that we'll do our best to keep the line of communication from breaking.
