No teases indeed.

You may be thinking to yourself “Hey, that’s a pretty short change list.” While a lot of the changes done this month were backend things that players will never notice, you would be right to think that August’s changes feel very minimal. The reason for this is that we’ve been focused on preparing a larger series of changes to Matchmaking for September. Much larger.

Much, much larger.

No, really. It’s huge. You should see how giddy Luke gets when I talk about the tentative plan.

The experience changes sound sweet but I don't think I'm fully understanding it. Are the numbers such as level 50 being erased and replaced with this playlist number? Just a little confused by this, thanks.

How will the playlist ranks factor into your regular ranks?

The playlist rank is a really great idea! So when does this sucker come out?

Playlist specific ranks. OMG.

Looks like I'mma miss the update, I'll catch up with you guys tonight.

Blood, fellow GG, I leave this task to you. Once the major change is announced, you must respond to it for me by posting the appropriate gif. Yippee or shitty-dick. I trust you to do the right thing by me.

Yeah, I'm slightly confused as well.

Playlist Ratings are based on how much experience you’ve accrued in a given Playlist. We’ll be basing your rating in a given playlist off of this value

So this means that so long as you continue to garner experience, you'll eventually go up ranks? So does that mean the ranks will basically act on a sliding scale, where my experience needed to go up to say a Captain in Team Slayer may vary depending on where the overall populace experience is at? Or will I go up ranks at set exp benchmarks for each playlist?

Also, I am kind of worried about Oddball and Flag in doubles.
Sounds like you still have your overall rank. But beneath that, you accumulate a playlist-specific rank based 100% on experience.

You will be able to go up at fixed intervals in each playlist.
You could be a Colonel Grade 2 in Team Slayer, a General in Lone Wolves, et cetera, it's all based on how much experience you have in a given playlist. We're adding the tracking for these values at the playlist level in AU2.

It says your True Skill rank and current exp will stay.

Am I understanding correctly that - the more you play of a play list no matter winning or losing you can still reach a 50 or general just because you will never lose EXP? Unless of course you quit?

Either way saweet update, interesting new Doubles gametypes.

Yeah so will terrible scrubs who play 4000 games of TS now be Generals? Does your icon change depending on which playlist you're in? So confusing.

So does this mean we will have a seperate EXP rating and rank shown instead of 1-50 in each playlist?

[edit] Nevermind.

And these huge major changes for the September playlist update has got me excited.

50 is the Skill rating. Trueskill still determines who you play, but the icon next to your name in a playlist will be your rating in that playlist.

If you look at someone's Service Record, though, you'll see their total EXP and Highest Rank, just like you do now.

If you're in a custom games lobby, what emblem will show?

So if you can be a Grade 2, it's not just experience, then? It also takes into account the highest level for that playlist?

Because that makes some sense. It'll push people to get their rank up in more playlists, I would guess, rather than boosting a 50 in doubles and playing Social Slayer forever.

Icon changes based on playlist (in a Custom game your overall EXP/Highest Rank will be displayed), Skill number is still used to match and you'll still see your Skill number (1-50) in a given playlist.

So take me for example: I'm currently a 48 in SWAT.

But if I get, say, 600XP (needed for being a General) in Team Slayer, I'll be a General in Team Slayer even though my highest skill is a 48?

You know, I might be the ONLY one who feels this way, but as of completing chapter 3 I actually find myself preferring the single player campaign of Halo 2. Seriously. That may change over time, of course, but it's a tad disappointing thus far. I mean, the game is incredible, but something feels off. Perhaps it's the environments. I don't know how much I care for them yet. The HDR lighting is also really nice, but the contrasts between light and dark often make it feel as if you aren't seeing the full battlefield.

Also, is anyone else finding the soundtrack disappointing? I mean, it's also quite good, but it feels as if it hides in the background a bit too much. I recognize a lot of Halo 2 themes that have actually been muted for this game. The music in Halo 2 just seemed more powerful and epic.

I think the game will require a lot of playtime before I can pass judgment. After all, I didn't really take to Gears until halfway through chapter 2. Sometimes a hyped game requires time to spread its wings...

After completing Halo 3 for the first time last year the above comments pretty much nailed my thoughts but here we almost a year later and I'm still playing campaign and loving it. Halo 3 is sooo much better than Halo 2.

Authors of uploaded modified content received the following prizes:

* The account is permanently banned from Matchmaking
* Permanent loss of File Share functionality.
* The Xbox hardware has been banned from Halo 3 for a month.

Holy crap. That's the coolest thing I've heard all day.

It's interesting I suppose. Not sure what's going to stop people from entering every playlist with a full party and boosting their exp until they're generals. I'm kinda hoping the game won't award exp to "winning" people unless they legitimately beat a team that matchmaking paired them up against.

I'm not sure why they didn't take out it showing your highest skill #, or take them out all together. It would have stopped all the fuckers who quit out of matches so they can be skill 50 recruits, and it would have deterred alt accounts since they would have had to have just earned their general insignia in each playlist, they couldn't just zoom to 50 in one and sit on it. Unless I'm missing something, I have been drinking >_>

And yeah, I completely never want to play Team Doubles again, what the fuck is that shit? Everything else is good (although where the hell is Heavies in Social Big Team?), but that's just retarded. Team Snipers in Doubles is bad enough, but good fucking God.

Well, that was a bit confusing, but I think I understand now. Thanks for answering questions, Luke. The new system sounds like a welcome addition to me. And the tease at the end has me giddy. And, September isn't even that far away!
Hey, wasn't Halo Blue supposed to release in September?

Also, who say Bungie doesn't listen to us. I seem to remember a lot of GAFers complaining about this, and it seems that testing is complete:
<!--[if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->REMOVED Ghost Town from symmetrical map variants

So if we're getting EXP for, say, a Colonel in Social Slayer, will we need to progress through Commander Grade 4 (3 gold bars), Major Grade 4, etc.?

Don't see my Dbl Exp Playlist in August...wtf mate?:D

After reviewing the dbl exp playlists again I decided this post wasn't mad enough.

Legendary Brawl?
Grif?
Team Snipes?
Living Dead?

WTF is that shit we've already had these three of four times each? Is there even going to be any new maps to play Living Dead on?

Lets create some NEW gametypes for dbl exp playlist instead of rehashing normal, not so different from every other playlist gametypes...

You have the options in the game, use them.

Are you guys the same people I'm always yelling at in BTB for vetoing anything but Slayer? Variety is good. Team Doubles gets tiring after 50 games of nothing but slayer.

I can see it now...

Double Team Oddball The Pit

Ok changes breakdown:

Banning of modified content - Thumbs up
Heavies increased - Thumbs up
Team Doubles objectives like KoTH - Thumbs down
New ranking stuff - TBD
September stuff - I have a mental erection imagining what it could be.

Oh and

Hardcore

MLG

* REMOVED MLG Blackout

The most beloved Halo 2 map removed from Halo 3 MLG playlist. That fresh and original human art style for Blackout was a good choice :lol

The new ranking system alone is a much bigger change than everything in Auto-update 1. I'm curious to see what else is in AU2.

Yeah, objective games in Doubles is worse than the Banshee on Ascension in a Team Rifles match. Waiting 10 seconds to respawn after being spawn killed along with my team mate and watching my flag/oddball get stolen and captured is not my idea of fun. It sucked in Halo 2 and I'm sure it will suck in Halo 3.

Thanks for everything else but that, Shiska.

I agree, but most of objective stuff in Doubles doesn't work well IMO. King of the Hill and Oddball I'll maybe give you, but any flag variant in Doubles can get the fuck out. Like blueblur said, basically if you get killed and they get your flag, you're completely fucked by spawn times since there's only two of you. Same with oddball, with only two people respawn times will totally fuck you if the other team has the oddball.

Ironically, although VIP is terrible in Big Team, I think it'd actually work very well in Doubles, but it's not in there (or at least I've never gotten it).

My last concern is if we still have to go through double/triple bars before we progress to the next rank (i.e. being a Brigadier Grade 4 before we can hit General Grade 1).

Team Objective

* ADDED Oddball
* ADDED King of the Hill
* REMOVED Ghost Town from symmetrical map variants
Oh God... for all three. THANK YOU.
Team Doubles

* ADDED Oddball
* ADDED King of the Hill
* ADDED 2 Flag on the Pit
* ADDED 1 Flag on Blackout
Not a big fan of 2-Flag on The Pit, but other than that, nice job.

I hope there's more changes (ala adding more map-types, game-types, etc. in Team Slayer and Team Objective).

Great job so far!
