They look the same.

So what does the plant in the background of this look like?

The blue background you can see as blue, but what's the green seaweed or whatever look like?

I am 100% red green color blind. My answer is this: Red looks like blood. Green looks like grass. The only time I am 100% color blind is looking at the color blindness test.

I can see the top left fine. All of the others are just dots. No numbers at all.

Same here. 25, clear as day. The rest are LIES.

Can you tell the difference between the red and green teams on Halo?

Yeah, we're the same. Military fatigues really mess with me.

I'm in Seattle all weekend but you need to warm up so that you're back up in my league when I get back.

It's not that it's a poor change, I was just expecting more. As far as I see it this is merely a cosmetic change which is appreciated but underwhelming.

The ranking system is broken. Trueskill finding a perminant skill for the player is not accurate, it's frustrating. I don't expect to level up as I would in an RPG, I would just like my rank to be fluid enough that I will change ranks if I consistently do well or poorly; while not as quickly as a new account, but much faster.

Oh well, it'll be neat seeing something change for once :P

If I'm understanding this correctly, only your rank within that playlist will show up in the lobbies?

So a player can be a General in Team Slayer but a Staff Captain in Big Team Battle for example?

GhaleonEB said:
I still think hiding ranks is the idea solution.
I like the prospects of hiden ranks but then there would be no difference between ranked games and social games. There'd be a lot more quiting out and a lot less competetive matches.

Maybe have a hidden rank and use this new exp per playlist system but tweak it so that quitting takes a much larger chunk of exp off. People would want to win because they'd want to become generals, there'd be a hidden rank determining the matches so that they'd be competitive, there'd be less frustration and alt accounts.

I still can't wait to rank up though :P

Has the August playlist update gone live?

If anyone plays Team Objective Oddball/King, or any doubles objective games, could you save the gametype/map and upload them to your fileshare, please? I want to see how they're set up.

Can we get a list in next weeks update of all the changes in AU2? Like, a bullet list of all the changes? Kind of what every other game company in the world does. The whole cryptic breadcrumb stuff is alright when it comes to new announcements but come on it's a patch. Enough already.

Daravon the real reason your Halo experience has soured is because you never played with me anymore.

That's because you're always playing Ninja Gaiden 2 at like 8 in the morning my time :p. But no seriously, the ranking system in this game is pretty fucked, and alts and recruit quitters make it way worse. The update ultimately doesn't really address either one of those things, which they could have quite easily by removing the skill #'s, which what most of us had assumed they would do. Since you know, it would have been easy and made sense. I'll get on and do Big Team games when we've got a crew on, but that's pretty much it. Social Slayer is where Brigs and Generals go to fuck around, and most of the ranked playlists are either alts on my team who quit so they can keep their recruit status, or a series where I'll win 8 games in a row but lose once so I go down a rank.

Sounds like most of it is mechanical stuff they've never really publicized. Maybe the way they collect information for data mining or perhaps adjustments to internal tools. If they are going to make changes to the way the experience is altered for the player, they'll talk about it. They always do.

Just got done reading the BWU and I have a question:

Will our prior experience in the current playlists be taken into account when this update goes live?

I'm sorry if this as been asked already, but I'm trying to absorb all of the details of AU2 to the best of my ability.

"When you enter a playlist for the first time after AU2 you will be a Recruit in that playlist."

Damn, I guess I should have read the update more carefully. :lol

Eh, I tried to read it last night after I stumbled in and had to click away. Things were a little easier to digest on the second pass this morning.

For those bitching. You got de facto achievements. And you brought them on yourselves. The time for repentance has passed. Seek! Behold! Reveal!

I don't work tomorrow so tonight I plan on play Halo until the wee hours. So you best be on we can't have Eazy talking to you like that :P Also would someone ask Eazy what his score in Pacifism is in relation to mine?

I don't think so. Social still matches based on TrueSkill.
Achronos said:
Your military rank has absolutely NO impact on matchmaking, even in social. In social, you are still matched based on your TrueSkill for that list... the only difference is that you can't see your TrueSkill level in a social playlist.

When AU2 is closer, we'll release a change list. u mad?

You and a few others are the only reason I still play this game at all, it's no longer any fun trying to play competitively and rank up. I was fairly drunk last night when we were playing, and I was completely fucking unstoppable every match, I think I found my secret weapon.

I like the sound of AU2 so far.

Which I could understand the Trueskill system :/ How can I be a 32 in lone wolves but struggle to hit 15 on Team Slayer (And normally drop back down to 14 a game or two later) and it's not like I'm doing all that bad many of the games I played today I had the highest K/D ratio on the team with maybe one or two bad games. In about 3-4 months of playing Team Slayer I think the highest I reached was 16

Stupid Number ¬.¬ lol

You move toward the next rank for taking any of the top three spots in Lone Wolves. In Team Slayer, your team has to win. Your Trueskill value isn't increased by your individual performance if you're on the losing squad, not matter how good your kills to deaths ratio is.

Bullshit. I am the only reason you have any fun at all, as evidenced by your need to get drunk to play when I'm not around.

okay so today then

8 Wins, 5 losses and I only moved up 1 rank but my brother went up 2 :/

A lot of my team losses had me with a + K/D Ratio kinda sucks that that doesn't count towards my true skill

I <3 Bungie. Their dedication to online is fucking awesome.

Team Objective:
ADDED Oddball
ADDED King of the Hill
REMOVED Ghost Town from symmetrical map variants

Ranked Big Team Battle:
“Heavy” map variants added to Slayer rotation
Standoff Heavy modified for more insanity
ADDED Sandtrap Heavy

Much more visible to the players is some new functionality coming to Halo 3’s Experience system.

I was going to try Modello's (sp?) at your suggestion, but they didn't have any. I was hoping to find you at the bottom of the bottle :(

Negra Modelo.

Regarding the AU2, your overall EXP will no longer have any bearing on your rank? It'll just be an "ever growing" number from now on? (nevermind: I think I understand now)

I can't wait to get back to start playing Halo 3 again. My dad bet me $400 that I couldn't go without playing my 360 for a month. One week down, 3 to go :-/

I'm not a bettin' man, but this is one I would take any day. Easy $400 imho.

I was reading a quote from Ogre2 about assists.

He said something like: "you get an assist if you deal less damage to an opponent then the person who gets the kill. So if a player gets three shots onto an opponent and then a teammate cleans up the kill you do not get an assist. This means that most pro players don't worry about the assists stat because it doesn't truly count assists the way it should. This is why I really only look at the shots hit category instead of the assists category."

This was for H2 but I don't know if they would change assists from H2 to H3. So really assists might not mean that much...and I don't know why in the hell H3 got rid of the shots hit/shot percentage stats...

Let's be honest though; Halo 3's ranking system is one of the best ones out there right now. Seriously, it is. Maybe it's not good for making people feel good about themselves, but it does a fairly decent job of getting people into competetive matches. I don't like the frustration that comes with the Halo 3 ranking system, but playing Halo 3's matchmaking is a hell of a lot better than Gears of War, where you have no rank and simply dive into random games and hope for the best (and end up playing on uneven team 3/4 of the time), and it's a lot better than COD4, where the ranking system pats you on the butt and makes you feel special, but ultimately does little to provide competetive matches and balanced teams.

And, it seems as though the update may be able to help the problem with alt accounts. If people care about their playlist rank (not the number, the symbol), which they'll always be able to move up and won't hit a wall with like with the number, then they won't find themselves getting frustrated and creating new accounts, and they won't want to lose the progress they've already made, since it won't be any easier to get to the top the second time.

And really, did anyone actually expect them to hide the skill number? Really? That seems like a recipe for lowered populations in matchmaking, tons of angry forum meltdowns, and an increased workload for Jerome the security guard. Maybe some people thought it would be nice if it was hidden, but I don't think anyone was honestly expecting Bungie to hide it.
