Guess who has 2 exams the week of the 24th?

The world hates me.
I have an exam too, E&M. Plus, the week Halo 3 comes out I have to dedicate a lot of time to machining a part for a surface plasmon experiment I'm putting together. :(

Mission Accomplished. I got the flag capturing Spartan cup and my sweet sweet Heroes Season 1 DVD box set.
There are only 3, and its your duty to collect them all.

in your face I only have on....wait i have two also. :(

we should start a club.
I've made a few changes to my schedule, so I'll be free of my various obligations on the 25th and 26th. However, I still have a lot more commits then I would like the week Halo 3 is released.

Kind of hard to believe we'll be playing in 15 days..

The wait is almost over. Not very intense, but its a good feeling :D

Yeah, it's felt weird. I think I drained all my OMGITSHEREITSTHEEND juices on Harry Potter earlier this year. Everything else has just been one big stream of falling action.

I'm kind of wondering how most places are handling it, it seems like less then ideal review conditions.

It's fairly typical, we're giving them plenty of time, a great environment to play and access to anything they like. They are not being pressured or rushed.

Online publications will have no restrictions at all - this is purely the nature of print deadlines - game's not out yet - they need access now.

In review situations like this would Bungie ever receive any feedback from the reviewers?

I imagine most magazines would withhold their impressions but I'm curious if you guys would gather some form of idea as to what the general consensus on the game is?

I'm sure the reviewers play it cool. "It's alright." While having a big shit eating grin on their face.

Hey Frankie while you are reading the thread I have a totally different question too. I know there are achievements for completing the campaign on the different difficulties. So can those be gotten while playing co-op online with friends? It's just something that is kinda bugging me.

I'll be honest I suck and would never be able to beat it on Legendary alone. Hell to this day I am still trying to beat Halo and Halo 2 on Legendary still. Oh and keep in mind I don't want them for co-op. I know that is weird but someday when I am 80 and I finally beat Halo 3 on Legendary I want that achievement to pop up and know that I did it and it only took 60 years. lol

Pretty much the same process for Halo 2 reviews, IIRC. In fact, a LOT about the Halo 3 coverage is similar: EGM got the first cover story, then the first preview of Campaign two issues before they reviewed it, showing the first couple of missions. OXM gets the first play-through of the game, just ahead of other mags.

I am curious how the one reviewer per outlet impacts EGM though, IIRC that restriction wasn't in place for Halo 2.

Whoa, what? No 3 man review? As much as I respect Hsu, I'd like for their to be some other, ah, less enthusiastic Halo fans reviewing it as well.

What? Shane, dirty his Mangod hands with a 360 controller? Never!
Occasionally gods mingle with us mere mortals.

The back of the new EGM indicates they were shooting for having a review in their next issue, but it sounds like the review sessions were later than they were anticipating; I think their print deadline has passed for that issue already. Reviews probably won't hit monthly print in most mags until the issue after launch.

Will the OXM review get out before the 23rd?
In the acticle with Fran she says it hits on the 25th, but I'm sure we'll hear about the score sometime before then.

It's hitting newsstands on 25th. Subscribers usually get it early so I guess, that is yes.

Editor's Note: Look for Fran's 10-page (!) review of Halo 3 in the next issue of Official Xbox Magazine, hitting newsstands the same day the game releases, September 25.

EDIT: Beaten by Ghaleon.

Thanks.

After the latest Halo 3 blowout I'm very interested in Jeremy's opinion. Never thought he'd be that into Halo to write so much about it. Campaign-wise he should be well-prepared.

Nope. they always play it close to their chests.

Guys, i need some help (wrt to Halo 3)

I have to pitch this game to retailers who have no idea about Halo universe, i just want to know which video would be best to get their attention up.

That's because you haven't seen the third one yet.

Let me guess.

- Shaky camera.
- Some more brutes.
- More shaky camera.
- MC to make a surprise appearance along side some elites.

:P

Neil short films so far have been OK, but "Starry Night" nailed almost everything badass about Halo in a short tight package. The people behind it need to work with Bungie if the opportunity ever arises again. MAGIC!

Oh snap.

I still don't really have an opinion about Blomkamp. I am kinda worried about how his movie-making style itself will translate to the Halo Universe, but really, I need to see more of the combat and the Covenant before I truly make a decision. I like his other movies, but yeah, I'm not really a huge fan of that crazy shaking handicam-esque thing he's got going on in the last short. I like the fact that it's gritty, but I just don't know if that grittiness fits Halo.

Ok let me be more clear.

Halo 3 is clearly a big game for Microsoft. They put out all kind of pamplets and stuff at the Stores. But salesmen have no clue about Halo3, they have no idea about the awesomeness of Halo. So i have to do a session to get their attention, so any video that can do that would be awesome. As far as gamers in India are concerned, we all know about Halo ( For PC BTW) but the casuals might not be aware, so awareness among the salesmen is very important

I think the shaky cam, saving private ryan-type camera works well with the shorts. I think it works well with any war setting. I loved the first two shorts. But thats just my style of cinematography I guess. Sometimes different is good. Practical effects FTW. Except someone said the Brutes in the last video were CG...?

So how are we gonna handle it if Halo 3 gets an average score of below 9? Like 8, for example?

Im not expecting it to, but you know, its smart to be prepared. Im just not gonna play the game if it gets under a 9 -- too shit, not playing.

See, I hate that internet drama bullshit. There are only a few who's opinion I'm interested in.

Meh, I dont give a damn about scores. Crackdown got a 7 from the source I respect the most (Gamespot) and it has turned out to be the best game I have played since Halo 2. The only opinion I care about is mine. I will write a review if that makes you feel better.

You have to admit shaky cam is starting to be overused in cinematography. I can fully understand it being used in low budget productions, but I do admit I prefer a really well done tracking shots. However, it was not the shaky cam that ruined the Halo shorts for me or anything like that, it was more to do with Starry Night being more humanized, thanks to that wonderful opening scene, which was then followed by a action sequence that left me wanting more (I'm guessing which was exactly what Bungie and MS wanted.)

Fixed a bit, which now describes most of Starry Night. :p

How dare you.
