has it been 100% confirmed that there will be custom match SEARCH?

lets say i wanted to do 1 ctf on any maps, can i just go do a search and find oen without doing matchmaking?
It was removed in favor of the playlists. They said that feature would damage the matchmaking playlists' population. With less players playing, matches would be harder to find and the whole matchmaking functioning would not work properly. It did sound like a great idea but oh well. At the very least you can join any of your friends' parties and any of the players on your recent players list.

EDIT: I just realized something. This thread belongs to a handful of us now. Brutezone pic FTW.

SOme people will clamor for it, without a doubt. And the AR (in the Beta) is only a notch above the Halo 2 SMG. Its really close to being worthless.

I really felt like the AR was perfect starting weapon was, the range was enough to knock a BR out of scope so I could get away at the longer end of mid range. In shorter fights, If I could get the BR guy to miss once or twice I could generally win with smart burst firing. At close range, Meleeing was powerful enough to even out most situations. Throw in couple nades and every player is decent at short to midrange.

At the same time, it wasn't the perfect weapon, there were stronger guns for different situations, so you didn't want to rely on it solely. Matches never devolved into, "My AR is better than yours" fights like they did in Halo CE where things quickly became "Pistol exclusive".

The gun needed a bit more feeback on where the shots were landing though. Not many people realized how much more accurate it was to burst fire the thing, since they never saw where their shots were landing.

good enough to pull off some sweet kills, but weak enough that you want new weapons, what could be any better :D

Worthless?

Can people learn to use the weapon...

Pfftt...the AR is soooooooooooooooo much better than the SMG.

Starting with the SMG completely ruined Halo 2 for me.

OK, you start with SMG, I start with AR, one on one, Guardian. I should only win a notch more games, right?

This is madness.

Nonsense. The Assault Rifle is the perfect starting weapon and I personally feel it's the best all around weapon available in the game.

You're out of your mind.

The AR is far better than the SMG. It's not even close.

The Assault Rifle was awesome in the beta. I don't know what Blueblur1 is smoking, but I don't want any of it.

It's my favorite gun in the game. Thanks soooo much Bungie for bringing it back. I also lovve the redesign of the BR, looks so awesome!

Try short, controlled bursts!

Request accepted.

Anyone who says the AR is worthless is just completely cocked. That thing saved my ass so many times in the Beta UNLIKE the SMG in Halo 2. In the Beta you could spawn and think OK if I run into anyone, I will be ok. In Halo 2 it was a mad dash to find a weapon that could actually do something. (No offense to the Bungie guys with my SMG comments)

Are they actually numbered? What is the total allotment...ie 117 of 10000?

It was reported awhile back that there were numbers on the helmet stand. No clue on the total number of Legendary Editions made yet, but I'd say Bungie/Microsoft made at least a million units.

Please don't let that be true, please..

Sorry, it's true. I can't recall the exact number but I know it's fixed. I think it was announced or put out somewhere. IIRC it was under half-a million but more then 400k.

Most everyone expects it to be completly sold out well before the end of the day on the 25th.

I think it is around 450,000 units.

When we look at other “like” items out in the market place we have seen a number of high quality collectors icons created for movie titles by various studios. These have tended to be short or very limited production. Given the scale and magnitude of the Halo 3 launch and demand exceeding 450,00 units, it requires a whole different set of thinking in terms of materials, industrial design, and deco methods. To this end I feel that challenged everybody in the extended supply and manufacturing chain to bring their “A-game.”

I remember someone mentioning something along the lines of "the demand for the Legendary Edition will exceed 400,000 units so we're going to have to make at least that many" in a previous Bungie Weekly Update. I can't recall anyone other number confirmations after that though.

Either way, I better get my Legendary Edition. It'll be a little over ten months the day Halo 3 releases and if I don't get it there will be major problems.

edit: Ah! There's the Weekly Update I was talking about, thanks Tak.

Halo 3 Launch Week Looms
Best Buy to sponsor three days of free Xbox Live Gold access.
by Ryan Geddes

September 11, 2007 - Microsoft calls it "the biggest entertainment event in history." We call it "the week Halo 3 comes out," and it's fast approaching.

Master Chief touches down Sept. 25, and Microsoft said today that more than 10,000 retail stores in the U.S. will open their doors at midnight that night to deplete the engorged wallets of the Halo hardcore nationwide.

Dubbed "Unite to Fight Week" by Microsoft, the Halo 3 launch week will include a Pontiac "First to Own" Halo tie-in promotion; a series of special events at stores in New York, L.A., Seattle and Miami; and a Sept. 23 NASCAR race featuring a Halo-inspired car.

Microsoft is also planning an Xbox Live blowout to promote the game, partnering with Best Buy to sponsor three free days of Xbox Live Gold access for everyone with a 360 and a broadband connection from Sept. 25 through Sept. 27.

Game with Fame sessions will also take place during the first week of launch, pitting gamers against actors, musicians, and athletes over Live. Exclusive Marketplace content, "Game with Bungie" sessions, and a variety of Live sweepstakes and contests are also in the works.

Players can register their Gamertag at the Microsoft "Unite to Fight" web site starting today and then play the game between September 28 and September 30 to enter the sweepstakes. Prizes will be randomly drawn and will include Halo accessory packs, Xbox 360 Halo 3 Special Edition consoles, Halo 3 Edition Zunes, Microsoft Points, and the Halo Graphic Novel.

The Halo 3 launch week is also expected to include 1.7 billion uses of the word "powned," or variations thereon.

Free XBL Gold access for everyone from Sept. 25th-27th is nice.

From that other thread.

Also - limited edition (and therefore Legendary too) contains a long Making of Halo 3 doc called Anatomy of a Game which can be watched a "movie" or in discipline specific "episodes" to answer a question from 80 pages back.
Which answers a long-standing question about whether there's a nice long documentary on the disk. Loved the Halo 2 one, so me happy.

(Still not reading thread. Sorry if old and moldy.)

It wouldn't surprise me if the Legendary Edition numbered "1" will sell for at least eight hundred dollars on Ebay or elsewhere.

I'd be really surprised if you see number 1 on eBay.

so basically they are making one for everyone that wants one?

what the hell is so special about that?

Guess I'm canceling my pre order and sticking with the SE. Not gonna pay 2x the price for stuff I don't want - especially when it's not rare.
