Availability post for Rolando 2. I always like to do these anyway because it's easier to transfer them over to the Recommendation Thread this way later.

Figured this was/is the best place to ask: is there a port (or clone) of any of the Every Extend games on iPhone? Doesn't really matter which version, I just figure it would be an ideal portable game to play on it.

yeah i think there was. I'll see if i can find a link.

Agreed. Kinda wish I wouldn't have bought it. :(
Oh man, really? It's hard, but it's sort of nice to have a puzzler on the iphone that isn't ridiculously easy to figure out. I'm supposed to be getting work done, but I've spent the past 4-5 hours trying to up my score :D

my colleagues and I have been hooked on flight control and wildwest pinball as we try to outscore each other.

but they're getting abit old now and I'm on the lookout for other cheap games which ae great for challenging high scores in a similar casual fashion.

ideas please?

Outscore? Are you just passing iPhones/touches from one to the other? If not and you're playing on multiple iPhones/touches, you can play flight control multiplayer via bluetooth. It's quite fun. :)

multiple iphones, co-op was quite cool but not what we're after, its all about versus or beating each other in some way.

wildwest pinball was perfect except for its ridiculous knack for sending the ball down the sides

Drawrace is quite good imo. Flight Control meets a racing game but it's not a flight control knockoff.

Drop 7 has Facebook integration and has friend leaderboards. My co-workers and I are addicted to topping one another.

I just bought a touch and holy shit I didnt realize how many awesome games were out. I mean I bought the thing for gaming but wasn't expecting this much. Great stuff so far, thanks for the recommendations to all.

Atari Missile Command and Centipede would be good for that: quick casual score-based games most people know how to play already. And recently they added online leaderboards, so you could look your colleagues up online to compare. On the interest of full disclosure, I did help develop the iPhone versions of those games, but I get no money from their sales, so I'd say my point of view is still mostly objective :)

The features have me excited but the look isn't up to par with Real Racing or even Need For Speed, from what I can tell. I played Asphault 1 and 2 on N-Gage a few years ago and I was surprised to see how little changed in 4 on iPhone. The graphics actually looked worse, but that's probably due to the N-Gage's super small screen having a flattering impact. Still, I thought there would be more.

A5 looks to be what I thought 4 would be.

Kill All Bugs ($3.99) is out

Kill All Bugs is a tower defense/RTS hybrid game with 21 levels, and survival mode. It pays tribute to B-movies and delivers real insect AI. Players are dropped into a frenzied battle to save humanity from mutant bugs. Construct a gauntlet to keep insects at bay, with access to a slew of heavy weapons, high tech defenses and air strikes.

Created by Bight Games and published by Sonic Boom. Play Sonic’s other games and apps: Redneck Fishin’, iZombie: Death March, and Tattoo Shop.

Looks kinda interesting... being wanting something in the genre for a while.

That does look cool. I posted a thread on TA for it, so hopefully one of them will buy it and we can get impressions. I'm not spending $3.99 yet :D

Just got a promo code for Volcano Planet and I really like it. The game is very polished and gets quite hectic.

app store link - 99 cents

By ignoring global warming and thumbing their noses at carbon emission targets the Xediotz and their plane are now DOOMED. Volcanic activity is generating critical levels of explosive (and smelly!) gas. Only you can delay the inevitable, allowing as many Xediotz as possible to escape before the planet EXPLODES.

When a volcano appears, use touch to rotate the planet so you can TAP the volcano out. The longer they are around the more gas they produce so be fast.

Send rubbernecking flying saucers on their way with a sharp tap - they'll leave you with Gas Suppression bonuses so it is well worth it :)

- Local and Internet High Score tables.
- Speed/Accuracy are rewarded with Gas Suppression modules (DING!) to be used when you need them.
- Can be paused by tapping on the timer in the top right for a well-earned break
- Entertainment for all ages

edit:
Yep, removed R2, problem gone.
Anyone else is having this issue?

edit:
ok, scratch that.
After another reinstall the problem is gone

Big Albie over on the TA boards posted this nice write up of his impressions:
Growing up I had this fascination with chintzy and campy movies that involved giant bugs attacking people and invading cities. Movies with simple titles such as “Ants” and “Swarm” always had a certain appeal for their cheesy scripts and in some cases, even humorous acting. Of course, I also liked "Starship Troopers", but that’s a whole other story. So, when Kill All Bugs! appeared in the iTunes store and was billed as a combination tower defense and real-time strategy game, I was intrigued. Surprisingly, the game delivers an elixir of campy uniqueness and strategic dexterity—bugs life this is not.

The theme is big bugs, big menacing mutant bugs that have landed and are now emerging out of the ground in hordes to attack cities. When I first looked at the graphics, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but they look and play pretty well. Visually, the game looks like it came out of a Gameboy—colorful with a mix of pixels—and it fits within the overall theme of the game. The soundtrack is ominous, and while it sounds like something from a Russ Meyer film, a varied soundtrack probably would have been a good idea. Like a TD game, the objective in Kill All Bugs is to build defenses in a free non-fixed path format and destroy enemies before they reach the populated cities. RTS comes into play when defenses need to be moved and managed because these are actually smart bugs that look for and take alternate routes.

Kill All Bugs has two game modes: Mission and Survival. Mission is the campaign mode consisting of 21 missions that are progressively unlocked. Each mission is presented with an intro screen describing the situation and the objectives. Depending on the degree of success in saving the local populations, medals (gold, silver and bronze) are earned. In addition, a promotion in rank (private, corporal, sergeant etc.) is awarded as well as extras that are unlocked as you progress through the missions. These extras are campy and include artwork and short animated videos which you can access under the Extras section. What would’ve made sense was to provide additional weapons, defenses or even additional levels that could be unlocked as extras.

Survival will test your endurance with unlimited attack waves as well as your ability to quickly think and manage resources. There are also 3 levels of difficulty: easy, normal and hard, and your best time for each level of difficulty is recorded.

The added challenge comes from the fact that you have a limited set of weapons that are not upgradeable. While some may not like that, I find it forces you to be more strategic and is core to the game’s RTS element.

Weapons include:
* Gun Turret
* Flame Turret
* Missile Turret
* Stun Tower
* Power Generator
* Laser Fence
* Airstrike

Each weapon has a different range and effect depending on the bug and can be sold by tapping on them and following the prompt. For example, a laser fence can be configured to different levels of strength based on placement. A stun tower which slows down bugs will temporarily stop them in their tracks when activated by tapping on it. Visually, the weapons can be fun to watch especially in the case of the missile turret which launches missiles in the air only to hit targets on the ground. Another is the Airstrike that literally sends a fleet of bombers across the screen to bomb the bugs. The Airstrike has up to five levels of power and gradually builds up during each mission.

It took some getting used to the fact that I couldn’t upgrade any of the weapons, but this fits the RTS element because of the intelligence of the bugs. As I mentioned, they will look for other routes, and they will change their attack pattern so you will constantly be selling and repositioning defenses. Think you can completely block their paths to the cities? Think again because the bugs will simply eat through defenses.

The game screen is functionally laid out. At the top of the screen is the Airstrike gauge that slowly builds up along with the activation button in the upper right corner. Along the bottom of the screen is the money earned counter, number of attack waves (Mission) or timer (Survival), and the population. Zooming in and out is done by pinching and drag to view different parts of the screen.

The gameplay is very intuitive where you simply tap the location where a defensive unit is to be placed. Keep in mind that as you progress, the number of cities to protect will fluctuate as well as the availability of certain weapons. In some cases, you may have a limited number of a specific type of weapon regardless of how much money is earned. While having a limited variety of weapons with no upgrades would seem to make Kill All Bugs simpler than a TD game, in some ways, Kill All Bugs is more challenging because it requires constant attention due to the bug AI. The other dynamic can be found in the variety of missions with the different terrains and day and night conditions which impact visibility.

Kill All Bugs offers a creative approach to TD/RTS especially with an AI that attempts to outsmart you. Campiness, giant bugs, and even a cheesy soundtrack together deliver a fun and challenging game.

Albie Meter: 4 Stars (recommended for those who want a different twist on TD with a certain degree of RTS or just have an interest in bugs; while not particularly deep, the game offers a good degree of challenge and strategy)

Woo!! Just in time to celebrate the 4th of July, Apple's FINALLY approved Taxiball 1.1. The update adds two new levels (one that will undoubtedly be familiar to old-skool gamers), and for those of you who don't have a WiFi connection on your device, removes the stupid oversight we had that required you to register online. So now, no WiFi = no problem.

To celebrate the release, and the weekend, tonight we'll be dropping the price from $2.99 to $1.99 for the next week! And, now that we know 1.1 has gone through, we'll get to work on 1.2. :)

Cheers!

So I've been playing a ton of Baseball Sluggers: Home Run Race 3D (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=313833267&mt=8) today. The game is a really fun home run derby that uses the iPhone's accelerometer to control the batting (only to aim your targeting reticle -- you don't swing the phone or anything).

The really cool thing about the game is it has a full featured online mode that works over wifi or 3G where you play head to head and earn gold balls that you can use to buy new gear for your player. The new gear doesn't just change your player's looks; it increases your stats, as well, and you'll pretty much need the best gear in the game once you start ranking up and playing with higher level players.

It's pretty cool stuff for 3 bucks.

2. Connected blocks will disappear after 2 seconds.
1. Connect more blocks before they disappear to create chains!

Lurk Toucharcade forums. Devs are constantly handing out codes in exchange for app store reviews/impressions.

Cool. I need to go sign up over there.

Kill all Bugs looks pretty fun. Im' trying to only buy one game a week, its almost impossible. :lol

Just bought California Gold Diggers for $3 after getting hooked on the Lite version. Awesome game! Much more iPhone-friendly than I Dig It.

I Dig It was closer to an exact replica of Motherload, but CGD is definitely a better iPhone game. Thanks for the recommendation :D

Also bought Tower Bloxx since it's on sale for only 99 cents. Also a fun game, but WTF IS UP WITH THE UN-SKIPPABLE INTRO MOVIE?? Simply unforgivable for what's supposed to be a quick pick-up-and-play iPhone game. Even worse that it has an extra load time for than intro movie before the load time into the game.

does anyone have Siberian strike and would they recommend it? i tried the lite version and thought it was kinda bland, but the screens look better.

I bought it and never played more than 20 minutes total. Its not worth it, IMO.
