b-boy beats is on sale today for 99c. it's a break dancing rhythm game that borrows some elements from elite beat agents.

here's some text from the touch arcade preview:

The gameplay of B-Boy Beats amounts to keeping your index and middle fingers on the screen of your iPhone and moving them in time with the red and green circles to dance to the songs. This actually seems to take quite a bit of getting used to, as instead of most rhythm games where you're just tapping things along with a beat, you often need to keep one finger down while you move the other one around. Doing well takes an awful lot of brain power as when the songs speed up you almost instinctively just try to go back to quickly tapping like you do in Tap Tap Revenge and other games.

i'm liking this a lot.

Downloaded Final Fantasy I for 1000 yen.

The graphics is great high-res, though moving around the map somehow really tires your eye because of the not-so-smooth background movement.

Moving around town is easy, and with the run button it makes gameplay that much faster.

I don't dig the control in battle... You have to use your left hand, because the major controls and the enemies that you have to click on to attack are all on the left. Somehow I always either mis-click with my left thumb, or the game does not register my click...

The pacing of the battle is good though. There has not yet been a bit of slow down (though I just started the game...)

Music is great and is what you would come to expect from a FF game.

Transformers G1:Awakening is out.

I sunk hours into Battle of Wesnoth on the PC, so a portable version for the iPhone for a dollar was a no brainer. Seems like the same exact thing as the PC version to me, so maybe I'm missing something?

$8.99 for Final Fantasy? Really Square? Oh well I guess it is better than the $20 they charged for the PSP version.
People will bought that CoD Zombies game with one map for $10. Anything goes.

Wait, holy shit though... is it maybe a good transformers game finally? I would buy the shit out of that! Somebody post impressions please!

I think $9 is a good price for FF2, since the same PSP remake sells for $20 still.

As someone who's never played a JRPG is it worthwhile starting at the beginning?
I personally don't feel the real early Final Fantasy games are worth playing, but others might disagree.

Probably not...these early games were rather basic...almost no story, random fights that can get annoying, not a lot of variety in gameplay or music... And Final Fantasy games are each unique games in their own universe, so you don't have to ever worry about missing out on the story by starting later in the series. For a JRPG, better would be to start with Final Fantasy 4 or 6, or Chrono Trigger, of which I'd bet none of those will be hitting iPhone anytime soon unfortunately.

Not that these are bad games, I really like the first Final Fantasy even nowadays, but part of that is nostalgia. You can compare it to any old NES game that has had sequels on modern systems - Metroid is a classic, but on the NES it had no in-game map, dying would always start you out with 30 health even when you've made it up to a few hundred max health, and there were *very* points you could continue from (like maybe 4 in the entire game). Or The Legend of Zelda, the first game had no in-game story at all, some very obscure hints of what to do (a monster sitting in the middle of a room saying "Grumble grumble..."), and you basically had to set fire to every tree and bomb every section of wall and stuff to find everything.

They were great games back then...nowadays they are very basic, but it can be fun to see where they came from.

I would kill to have an awesome port of The Legend of Zelda on the iPhone. ^_^

The Bird Strike update with Endless Mode is already out, but we just released a trailer for it here http://www.youtube.com/pikpokgames

With a new trailer out and being showcased in the What's Hot section on the UK Store, Jos has also dropped the price temporarily to 99c to build some momentum.

Also, for those looking for a Flick Kick Field Goal update, we are submitting a new build in the next day which adds ingame statistics, and which I believe fixes both a scoring issue and an intermittent crash. Hopefully, that update appears early next week.

Did I miss the huge-ass digital d-pad in the FF screenshots, or did they conveniently leave that out of them? I was really hoping for good swipe controls, wouldve been a great solution.

The backgrounds DO jitter a bit when the screen scrolls, I hope that gets easy to deal with.

It was there on the screenshots too. At least the ones after they revealed the controls.

well i did all the easy colorbind levels... and medium is hard as fuck.

also noby noby boy got a nice tiny fix update for crash problems that I experienced numerous times... i love the icons though that you can post on facebook with the app ^_^

The overworld background doesn't move smoothly? Is it choppy or something?

It's not just the overworld, but the towns as well... I don't know, maybe it's just me, but for me it definitely isn't the best.

Yeah, I bought the game and I see what you mean. It's like the game pauses for a single frame every time you move a couple tiles. Which tells me Square's iPhone team needs more experience on the iPhone, that should be pretty easy to deal with. I'm definitely liking most of the music compositions, though, they did a great job updating them. Though I never imagined the main overworld theme as..."bombastic" with lots of brass...

They definitely cut down on the difficulty, at least at the beginning - on the NES, everything, especially spells, was expensive right from the start - the main reason to choose the monk was so you wouldn't have to buy him much armor/weapons. But this game starts you out with plenty of money to buy 3 spells for two mages and still armor and weapons for a couple other folks, and have enough left over for a couple potions (that you shouldn't even need for a bit). Hopefully it gets more challenging later on.

Transformers is really cool! I just bought it and have been playing the last hour or so (until my iPhone ran outta juice). If you like Advance Wars and old school TF characters then you really could do worse than downloading this. Here's a nice detailed Toucharcade review:

http://toucharcade.com/2010/02/24/transformers-g1-awakening-much-much-more-than-meets-the-eye/

Anyway, definitely worth the $5! There's so many great iPhone games coming out these days..

EDIT: BTW the music/sound FX are pretty bland and detract from the package a little, which is too bad, but honestly for an iPhone game that's my least concern anyway.

Final Fantasy on iPhone!

I'm going to be so angry at the people that will call/txt me while I'm playing this. Can't talk, Final Fantasy!

My new game just came out, Dungeon Solitaire - first one where I was the only programmer on (so if you find any bugs, you know who to blame!)

It's kind-of a mix between Magic: The Gathering and Solitaire (though not quite as complicated as Magic). You are trying to fill up one side of the dungeon with heroes before the monsters fill up the other side and attack the castle. When a hero and monster are across from each other, they battle. There's more than just winning and losing battles, though - if the two tie, one may have a "tie modifier" that can bump the opponent up or down, possibly triggering complicated chain reactions. There are trap cards you have to place, items that can help (and hinder) your heroes, and treasure that can make monsters worth FAR more gold...while making them more powerful. And it comes with an expansion, "Lost Potions", which adds potion cards which can randomly help or hurt, or save a life just as it was ending.

Sounds interesting, looks slick. I may have to check it out! Best of luck to you.

Got the TF game, been wanting to play that since it was on phones awhile ago. Will probably wait on the FFs, though. I like FF1, but it's not a day-one purchase to me.

Someone really needs to get Berzerk on this thing. And Gun.Smoke, too.

I think I'll be passing on Final Fantasy as well. Plants vs Zombies is enough to keep someone entertained for a long while. This will be my second purchase of the game, and XBLA will be the third.

And from my developer side, we've (LeftRight Studios) decided that our game, smackBOTS, is gonna be free for good. It's a quick little robot combat title that was previously $1.99 and $0.99 I believe. We dropped to free for the Appvent Calender, and decided we like the air down there.

Here's dome details:

smackBOTS screens:

For fun, here's a screen of smackBOTS running in the iPad simulator. By the way, we're optimized for the iPad launch (Yay!)

And here's some smackBOTS footage:

Grab it! I think we're one of the few devs offering global leaderboards and multiplayer for a free title.

Got an iTunes card the other day (yay) so I downloaded FF1 and NOVA tonight.

Never played FF1 but it seems like a good port so far, although whoever mentioned the weird slowness when moving around the world map was correct. It's there and it's slightly annoying but nowhere near as annoying as the damn TING! sound whenever you select something or type. And there's no way to turn it off or choose a different sound! Graphics look good and the music's nice, and the gameplay is fun so far. I've only played FF7 (and only got about halfway through that), but I'm enjoying FF1 so far.

NOVA--sorry, N.O.V.A., I mean--was kind of surprising. I've been in the mood for a shooter and read all the positive reviews, so I decided to check it out and so far it's not bad. Controls are good--I love that you can rearrange the layout of buttons by dragging it to a spot of your choice. Graphics are impressive so far, although the audio is severely lacking, from the horrible voice acting to the weak weapon effects. But hey, for something that BLATANTLY rips off Halo (did I say BLATANTLY because OHMYGODITIS), I'm still having fun playing a game like this on my damn phone.

Oh, and I don't post that often anymore but add me +1 to the Plants Vs. Zombies love. What a fantastic game. If you have any doubt, buybuybuy it. Well worth $3.

I picked up Colorbind yesterday, and was blown away. Have any of you all tried it yet?

Appshopper link here: http://appshopper.com/games/colorbind

It's a really unique path based puzzle game (well i've not played anything like it before). You have to guide little strips of paper around the screen in order to cover up little circles.

Really clever puzzles, and a cool aesthetic. And it's $1 :)

Just bought this. Awesome game.

Great Giana Sisters slashed to £1.79 / US$2.99 until the 8th, some internatonal womans day or something :lol

Ah, you son of a bitch. I can't pass it up at $3.

really though, thanks. I was waiting for a sale. :)

I played some of the TF game, I'm stuck on mission 16 in the story mode. It's fun, but I don't know that it's very good as far as strat games go. I don't really play that genre often, so the fact that this one is pretty basic, helps a lot.

Want to suggest Spirit [99¢].

Been playing this for several hours now and it's a lot of fun. You control the spirit and create temporal distortions in the level that sucks the enemies into them. Very fun and very good controls. I love the graphic design as well, kind of has a Geometry Wars vibe to it.

Gameplay.

Sword & poker is surprisingly aswesome. I've played through the lite version 3 times now, So I think it's finally time i gave these guys some money.

I see the quest is on sale at the moment also, Maybe it's time to give that a go also, I like the demo. Anyone here a fan?

I will give We Rule a go, I had my fun with Eliminate and it's nice as a portable shooter (with some terrible gameplay designs, shield bashing for example) and their Touch Pets was fun for about a week until you done nearly everything, my little dog is probably dead now :lol and this latest game of theirs seems to fall under the whole facebook farm app game genre, which I have zero interest in.

Absolutely fantastic game. I realized I was playing it too much when, last night at a concert, I was mentally rearranging the lights to form a 3 across pattern. That, or I just don't like John Mayer's music. One or the other.
