GT Racing has an update, 2 more cars and improved viewing distance, the old version had some nasty pop in only about 10 meters from the car.

There does seem to be an unsettling correlation between apps being free and apps being shit.

It's not often you stumble across something you'd actually buy when they give stuff for free.
 
I think Bit Pilot is good, but honestly on the initial level of normal its boring. I'd like an option like minigore to hop immediately into the crazy portion of the game.

I think so. There's good reasons for it. One of the drawbacks of the platform being closed, I guess.. A bummer.

Yeah same thing happened with Stanza... I have TWO apps I refuse to update T_T

Also, I should have listened to you guys earlier. Colorbind and Space Miner are aaaaaaaawesome games!!!! Thanks a lot for all the recommendation :D

Haha, me too.

I downloaded it turned it on once, played two games, then deleted it.

I really should clear out my iTunes library of apps.

This is by far the most frustrating game I've ever played. There is no way to beat the first level. Honestly, there is no way to complete the first section of the game! I spent 3 hours on it, missed 2 meetings, and still that stupid star falls in the water every time. I mean, did they program anything after this? Is this suppose to be fun. I cracked the iphone when I tossed it in the garbage out of anger. This is hardly representative of the cute and colorful graphics. These puzzles are too hard and this is for a child? If I had a child, I would never let him touch the game. I have a business degree and went to 6 years of college and I can not figure out how to get that dang star from falling in the water. I remove a piece and bam, every time. This is no fun. You must have to be a super genuis or something, I don't know. This is just crazy to think that this is a game that people would enjoy

I just received a hilarious review for Tumbledrop. I'm sad that he gave me 1 star and is screwing my average, but I found the text to be very funny.

This game was amazing on the Xbox and PS2, hopefully it translates well to the iPhone.

It was a hack that violated the API. You can still sync over wifi, which is what I do anyway. Just update it.

It'll probably be back whenever the next iPhone OS update comes out...which could be a while. They implemented an official USB storage thing for the iPad (OS 3.2) so I expect they're getting rid of the unofficial methods in preparation for that.
 
+1 Hype for bit pilot. Upon first play I really detested the controls but once you get better that sort of fades away...

Does everyone use OpenFeint? I have a few friends with iPhones, just curious who takes full advantage of it's capabiities.

Speaking as a developer, all games should use it. We implemented it for the first time in Dungeon Solitaire, and it's damn easy to do (took me about a half hour to put it in the game and setup online leaderbooards, another 15 minutes for online achievements), is completely free, and they don't make you do anything like plaster their logos all over the place. Its only annoyance is the first time someone runs your game it comes up with the full-screen OpenFeint signup page, but that's only once.

It's weird, it's like a joke, but at the same time it's so serious.

I wonder if using a median would be better than an average?


Anyway, thanks for the code. I'll write a review when I've played it a bit more. It's pretty neat!

I'm starting to hate open feint to the point of considering NOT to get games if they have it, in protest. I hate the use of the icon on the home page, the stuff itself is laggy and nearly always detracts from the games aesthetic.

I'm the same way. I've actually avoided games a couple times because of Openfeint. Hook Champ started running like shit on my G2 iTouch because feint would randomly lag which makes that sort of game frustrating.

Same here. The Open Feit thing has a quite 'unique' style that just doesn't fit many games' themes. They should go for a more simple design and just leave it as a normal text option and not the actual design..
 
when you get like 400K total points in bit pilot it unlocks a wallpaper for your iPhone! It says wallpaper a, so I'm guessing there will be more!

Sorry mate, didn't mean to come across like I was having a dig at you - I'm just astounded at how many apps there are that were once great but due to incompetence/greed end up in the shitter (Midcentury's "Shopper" comes to mind).

I like openFeint (it's fairly slick) and what it means. As a developer I love how easy it is to use (relatively) and saves us a lot of otherwise extremely time-consuming work (that stuff adds up!) If used properly, and of course depending on the game-type, it definitely can help include a lot of really cool features that would otherwise be simply not worth implementing.

I hear you about the lagginess and that's a drag, and I'd prefer games not to use it if it will affect them that way. I see that becoming less of an issue in the future (it's still quite new). Also I really wish they had a more sensible-sounding name for the service :) Though Plus+ and Agon aren't much better..
 
Count me in as a fan of OpenFeint as well. It does have the worst name in the history of naming things, though. What were they thinking with that name?
 
Not a fan of OpenFeint, not really opposed to it either.

From a developer perspective, it certainly makes sense to use features identical to what OF offers most of the time, so I think it's here to stay, and that may be a good thing, provided they work on how it integrates and they don't lock it down at some point.

Yeah I was always bothered with the names of Xbox and Gamecube (originally was gonna be Starcube?) also Dreamcast especially.. as time wore on and you got used to hearing the same thing over and over you just kinda "get used to it"

Though "Live" definitely makes sense and sounds appropriate. Naming things is difficult!

Bit Pilot is fun but it's pretty brutal at times. I wish there was second or two of invincibility after you get hit because the momentum-based nature of the game mean that when things go wrong, they go really wrong, and you can go from tons of shields to a hit away from death in a flash. Also, once things start to get intense, it's suicide to even think about going after the capsules, to the extent that they may not as well exist. As expected, the music is really great.

Certain parts of Infinity Gene had me thinking a bullet-hell sort of shooter could work well with that same control scheme. I wish somebody would give it a shot.
 
So I played the first Drag Racer game on iPhone and it was ok. The balance seemed off and it crashed a lot but in the end got fixed.
The second on is free today - iTunes
I haven't tried it but there you go
