No mention of ripping-off Chu-Chu Rocket...
Seeing as Sega is too stupid to port Chu Chu Rocket to the iOS themselves, I don't have a problem with someone making a clone of it. Though that ninja game only has you leading one ninja at a time - there's another Chu Chu clone that just came out that has a Mummies theme that's muuuch more like it.

And after the universal love for Fruit Ninja got me to buy it, now I'm starting to want that Hector game...!

Me and my friend were think tanking some iPhone game ideas about two years back, and had come up with a Chu Chu Rocket clone with zombies, since Sega wasn't doing one, and zombies had reached zeitgeist levels. We never got off our asses to do it, but it's pretty amazing someone else had such a similarly themed idea.

Still haven't tried it, wonder how the controls work.

The Jim & Frank Mysteries - The Blood River Files was released yesterday. Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDq6Ec-D6jI

I got some kind of Layton vibe from the trailer, but I don't even know why.

I couldn't resist the price (less than 1 euro for a limited time) and bought it. I played for 2 hours.

YES, it's a shameless Layton rip off. The interface is exactly the same. Unlike Layton it is completely linear.People give you puzzles and you solve them. Same presentation, same type of puzzles. One of the first puzzles is the one with the pigs and the 3 ropes! You can make notes like Layton 2.
Some puzzles reward you with photo pieces you have to put together...
There are also the activities.Mini games or puzzles that require tilting the iphone.
Finally there are the cue card puzzles. Non english speakers like me might have some problems with them, though the first 3 I solved were easy.
Bonus puzzles can be unlocked in the extras menu...

Overall I like it a lot. Layton fans should not miss it.

Quick question about Flick Kick Football - is there a way to sort of hit it with your left foot (or outside of your boot!) if that makes sense?

Like, if I swipe to the right and bend it to the left, the ball just stays there O_o

After falling in love with Flick Kick Football, I decided to try out Deadball Specialist, and it's actually not that bad! It's pretty fun. Still prefer FKF, but it's a very nice change of pace.

Still addicted to GodFinger.. this is weird.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. I just tried swiping right/bending left a bunch of times and it seems to work fine.

Maybe you are trying to swipe too fast? What happens if you slow it down?

Mario, BirdStrike is really awesome, down to the "oh yeah" bird-sound when you finish a level :D if there's one thing I would really like to see in a future update, it's a "free" mode (just like the Zen Mode in Fruit Ninja) where you're given a time limit, and collect points. In this mode, there would be no obstacles/ballons/etc, only rockets and stuff that gets you higher + seeds + other stuff that nets you bonus points. The goal would be to just collect points before the timer ends (and you can put 3 options: 30 seconds, one minute, and two minutes).

That would be freaking awesome.

I recently bought Trucker's Delight (fun) and Behind a Steel Sky (my favorite P&C). I also bought 8Bitone+, but I find it a bit hard to make good tunes. It's fun nonetheless.

Hmm... I wonder, what's the best Arkanoid-like game? Arkanoid itself, or are there better alternatives? I got Jet Ball for free the other day. It's fine, but I want something prettier and more clever.

App Store DESTROYS DSi Store + Minis combined.

The presentation isn't quite the same, I don't think - the backgrounds are okay, but the character design is utterly repugnant. And the writing Is totally charmless to boot.

I picked up and complete Simon the Sorcerer II which uses the SCUMMVM engine. Unfortunately, this game is very buggy and almost unplayable. The game locks up once in a while and there are image bugs.

Thanks for your impressions, I was going to pick it up after Steel Sky.

On the subject of adventure games, there seems to be a new game called Alicia Darkstone. I'm downloading the lite version at the moment.

I'll pass that idea on.

How does Beneath the Steel Sky perform? No bugs or anything?

Awesome - one of the best purchases ive made on the App Store.

Man oh man, I've said it several times but over the past weeks, Twin Blades has become the best iPhone game I've ever bought. Absolutely gorgeous and richly detailed art, good soundtrack, great super-smooth animations, excellent variety of beautiful environments, really fun to use and functional weapons & upgrades, simple and intuitive fighting controls (though the d-pad takes a bit of getting used to) and while the new 'story mode' may be simple, it's actually engaging and is now totally 'the meat of the game'. <3

Are you swiping through the ball? What model iPhone/iPod Touch do you have?
Oh shoot, I don't think I was nope... just swiping in the general direction I wanted the ball to go :lol

Working a treat now though, thank you!!

I see that Dragon's Lair is 99 cents right now. The page in the app store doesn't say anything about a sale. Anyone know if this a permanent price point? Space Ace is still 5 bucks, so it seems odd.

So, I started Jim and Frank on my 3G and it's... kinda slow and unresponsive. Just totally clunky. I don't really want to restart on my iPad, but I will if it makes the game better. Any impressions?

Anybody know how you switch blades and backgrounds once you unlock them in Fruit Ninja?
Choose the blade you want (from Dojo from the main menu), then 'slash' Select on the top-right of the screen. I assume you're trying to slash the blades themselves (icons)?

Hey HalfbrickPhil, I have an idea for an update and I'm wondering if it's possible.

I honestly really dig the fruit facts after each round. Is there some way you could put like... I dunno, a Fruit Facts Dictionary in the game that lists all the facts you've "unlocked"? I'd love to be able to browse and read through them all.

Damn, feel so stupid now. Thanks. Very addictive game. Most played by me right now.

Hey mate, thanks for your suggestion. We've definitely had numerous requests for that feature, so I'll definitely pass it on to the team and stress its popularity, hopefully to be included in a future update.

I've just about finished putting together the Fruit Ninja HD trailer, so in just a couple of hours you'll be able to see the game in action.

after *much* requesting, I am gonna revamp the icon for our game 180. Hopefully get it out (along with some new screenshots for iTunes and stuff) in a week's time, and I'm planing to release a player's guide (free of course) to show how to get at the deeper strategies of the gameplay in our little puzzle game :)

As usual, big thanks to all the gaffers who've helped out during pre-production and post-release in spreading the word and giving feedback. I'll likely put up a couple icon revisions on here and ask for feedback before submitting, if ya don't mind..

Also note we are doing some aggressive promotion for our game, click if you want to win (any) free apps of your choice.

Came here to post this, so yeah. Obviously the footage will never look as good as you'll see it being played on the screen, but it terms of lighting and capturing the screen I think we did a pretty damn good job (or, at least better than most videos filming screens of things).

Fruit Ninja HD is in submission and we are aiming for a July 14th release date.

Man Ive just been really enjoying the lite version of ESPGALUDA II but at over £5 I can't bring myself to pay it. Have I missed sales on this?

It launched at £3.99 but it hasn't been on sale since. You won't regret paying for it though, absolute top tier iPhone game.

Damn it, I'll wait.
Been enjoying playing on the iPad till I get my iPhone 4 on Thursday.

Maybe I'll ply the lite version a few more times then I'll see,it's still cheap but I'm now a victim of app store price conditioning.

Would you pay £5 if it was on XBLA/PSN?

Yeah, Jim and Frank kinda sucks.

Unlike Layton, there's nothing to do besides the puzzles. You just click from screen to screen, always with only one place to go. The puzzles are poorly written. The interface is bad because you can't see the puzzle description / clue AND the picture / answer box at the same time, so you're constantly clicking to read the description then clicking to pull up your notepad to try to work out the puzzle then going back and trying to put your info in the actual puzzle. The puzzles themselves aren't particularly fun and some are stolen directly from Layton.

The word scramble bonus puzzles suck.

The plot doesn't make any sense (so far), it's just a series of incoherent movements from location to location. Unlike Layton, where characters are actually propelled a theoretically sensible plot, this is just random.

Recommend against it.

I finally managed to have a successful run of The Impossible Game without flags a few days ago. I was extremely elated to say the least, although I haven't been able to repeat my success.

Any game recommendations for a game similar to The Impossible Game?

Looking for a game that's difficult, simple, and can be completed. I already have Canabalt and Robot Unicorn Attack but those games don't have an actual 'end' to them. If only the Bit.Trip series wasn't a WiiWare exclusive, I'd be all over Bit.Trip Runner.

Holy shit! iOS4 update for Jet Car Stunts Lite is out and adds glorious full-screen anti-aliasing to it! Call me crazy but, despite the game's utter greatness, I couldn't get into it because its beautiful clean Mirror's Edgy look just didn't mesh well at all with the jaggies... Now it's terrific.

Is fruit ninja getting a retina display update by any chance? That's all I need to pull the trigger.
Yes, it is. It was confirmed by HalfbrickPhil a few pages back.

Remember how I was talking about someone should make a Pokemon game for the iPhone?

Well, NimbleBit is halfway there, with their upcoming game Pocket Frogs:

teaser-300x300.jpg

TouchArcade.com said:
Proud to be indie developer NimbleBit leaked some vague details to us this afternoon regarding their next iPhone game, Pocket Frogs. The story of Pocket Frogs starts back with their previous game, Dizzypad [iPhone: $1.99 / iPad: Free + DLC], a simple jumping game that we loved in our review which recently received an update adding in iOS 4 fast app switching and Retina Display support for the iPhone 4.

Figuring they'd make the various Plus+ awards a little more fun than just increasing your overall Plus+ gamer score, NimbleBit linked these awards with unlocking differently colored playable frogs. The unexpected side effect of this for NimbleBit was it turned out that for many players, the goal of playing Dizzypad for them was to unlock every frog rather than shooting for high scores as originally intended. NimbleBit released several updates to the game which added even more frogs, so when searching for inspiration for their next game, it seemed only natural to make a game with the sole purpose of collecting as many frogs as possible.

Pocket Frogs is a game of raising, breeding, and trading frogs. Each of your frogs will have three specific genetic traits that they inherit from their parent frogs, which according to NimbleBit will result in "many thousand possible emergent species." There are going to be multiple customizable habitats to raise your frogs in, and players will be responsible for keeping the frogs healthy, happy, and well fed by taking them out to explore the Pocket Frog pond.

Aside from breeding frogs, players will be able to get new frogs by ordering them in-game as well as trading frogs with friends via Plus+. There are also plans to have various challenges to breed certain frogs which rotate on a weekly and monthly basis and the frog store will rotate on a daily with new frogs to buy with in-game currency. NimbleBit is still hashing out plans on exactly how they're going to monetize Pocket Frogs, but have assured me that players will be able to access absolutely everything in game for free and whatever in-app purchases they finally decide on will be intended for serious frog breeders and otherwise entirely optional.

One of the core features of Pocket Frogs that NimbleBit feels has been missing from some many of these free social games is a full featured offline mode. If you're an iPod touch user, you will be happy to know that you can play Pocket Frogs without ever connecting to the Internet, you just won't be able to buy any of the in-app purchases or participate in frog trading while offline. Otherwise, you can breed your own little frogs to your heart's content, buy new frogs, and even participate in all the breeding challenges.

Pocket Frogs is currently being developed for all iOS platforms and will include Retina Display support. NimbleBit isn't getting specific with release dates yet, and instead have just told us to "expect to have a handful of little frogs this summer." We've yet to hear whether or not players will be able to release their army of frogs on unsuspecting virgin ecosystems, but for what it's worth, I've got my fingers crossed.

All it needs is an RPG quest mode and it's Pokemon for the iPhone. Can't wait!

It looks the same as before. Doesn't look like they upped the res at all. They definitely added AA because that combined with the non-native res on the iPhone 4 makes it look like someone smeared Vaseline on my screen.
