Grrr, when is DoDonPachi Resurrection gonna come out? :( Cave keeps saying "summer" but my summer is pretty much already over, lol. I've been wanting the game so bad since it was announced.

Ok, just got an iPhone for present!

Bought Fruit Ninjas! Really good!

Also bought Pocket Gods, I love games like that lol

Any Top 10 here on Gaf?

Jet Car Stunts. Awesome, fun, graphics are beautiful. Frame rate is crazy high.

Okay, help me out guys. I'm a total noob on rogue/nethack, but I want to try it. I just downloaded the free versions of both, but there are some with a nice coat of paint on top like Sword of Fargoal, Rogue Touch, and 100 Rogues. Can anybody recommend one over all the others for someone who's not even 100% sure he'll get into the game style?

Just wanted to give you guys a heads up on my game I'm working on for the iPod - Theres No Place Like Homeless. It's a platformer/stealth game where you play as a Bum hiding in shadows & trashcans all while running away fron Catchers and Spotters who try to arrest the Bum (set in the year 20XX in Somewhere City where by being homeless you are brekaing the law).

We've almost finished working on a Map Editor for the game, and once thats done gunna round off a few things and then get this bad boy on the App Store (also on PC & Mac).

Oh, best of all - FREE. With downloadable content added every so often and a publicly available level editor with sharing tools too. =)

you can follow the progress on our blog - me (graphics) and maverick (coder) post on there regularly - http://supercuriosityblog.blogspot.com/

Island of 8-Bit Treasures is a interesting rogue that I have been enjoying. It is a bit different but worth a look.

Saw that one recommended elsewhere Bit on the higher side of the bunch @ $5, but I may give it a second look! Thanks.

Hey,

anyone interested in a turnbased soccer strategy game here?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vICOHLX0wJI

Player attributes are: Action Points, Condition, Accuracy, Speed, Defense
A turn plays like good old Combat Mission: you make your moves, opponent make his moves, then you press GO and the turn is played out...

will be ready in September/October...

I'm getting pretty steamed about Epic Win. I was a vocal proponent of it prior to its release (in real life to friends), and I spent 3 bucks on half-finished software that hasn't even launched on my phone in 4 days thanks to a showstopping bug.

I'd absolutely recommend avoiding this app until it's more than half a to-do app and a quarter of a game. It's long on personality (if by "long" you mean 3 characters and 2 you can pay to unlock) and short on functionality (like calendar integration, completion times, meaningful repeat task options, "project" tasks with multiple subtasks, push notifications, etc.)

Normally I give devs the benefit of the doubt, but when I pay $3 for something that breaks half a day into using it (for the tiny amount it does right now, which was definitely NOT the impression I had of what I was getting when I bought it) and just flat doesn't work from there out...well, that spends the benefit of the doubt that I have. And then some.

EDIT: fixed an "it's"

Cute but why not just make it realtime?

that's an idea... but hot spot multiplayer would not work. Also it should be about soccer strategy, not about fast reflexes...

on the iphone I can have 3 to 5 players on each side... but it would be great to have a PC version with 11:11 ... but it could get tedious to move all 11 guys in every turn...

To be fair, they patched that crashing thing the day after release you know... it's mentioned as having been fixed on the app in the app store, on the site's homepage, on the twitter account and on the facebook account.

You need to be upset with apple, Facebook has had two updates approved after the time Epic Win update was submitted, and Epic Win's update still hasn't been approved (speculate apple giving preferential treatment to bigger name companies here).

The rest of your concerns should be addressed over time, it functions well enough for now imo, but there is much improvement to add, I agree.

Yes, let's blame Apple for EpicWin's shitty design. :lol Reminds me of how Ubisoft blames Nintendo for their poor, crappy shovelware.

EpicWin being a poorly designed application that was obviously rushed. I regret buying it, it's not worth the $2.99 I paid for it. It's just not a very good app as a to-do list or as a game. It's actually making it more of a chore to go through the to-do list without any incentive.

I hope another developer takes the idea and makes a full fledged game out of it. I'd like to see an actual RPG which you play, leveling up that actually makes a difference and for god sakes, music and sound effects.

EpicWin was all hype and isn't recommended until it's useful and fun, which is the way they marketed it.

Well my point was that about half your post's length (1st & 3rd paragraphs) were about it not working at all, I was pointing out that was fixed immediately and apple was holding it up (not the dev). I agree with a lot of the rest of your post, and have said numerous times they have some pretty big shoes to fill in their app, but that said, it does function at a more basic level.

Sound effects are in this update too, and music is coming (and ipod stopping has been fixed).

Some people value $3 more than others, if $3 is a huge deal, then I agree skip it. But for $3, it still delivers enough functionality to be worthwhile imo, especially if it improves over time.

My point, boiled down, is this: it's not worth $2.99, and what I purchased is not what I was led to believe I was purchasing. If $3 for something that might eventually be a worthwhile product is a value proposition to you, by all means, have at it. For my part, until either the "application" or "game" parts of Epic Win are finished -- or even near-finished -- I cannot recommend it. I'm annoyed that I spoke so highly of it so frequently in the run-up to its release, and venting that annoyance here.

Oh, and releasing a day 1 patch to fix a showstopping bug? Even if it had been delivered last Thursday when the app launched, "in all fairness" its necessity is not exactly confidence inspiring, and the initial (huge, showstopping) flaw shouldn't be excused just because Apple has held up the resolution for an additional several days.

Sorry for the mixup! :( I guess my lower expectations have let me enjoy the app, while understandably you're higher ones have kept you from so. It got a nice ripping by many people over the last few pages, so you're not alone, if anything I'm the outcast here, enjoying it in its current state.

But showstopping bugs in apps are nothing new, just a few minutes ago, App Advice's headline read:

"Flixster Updated – Now Crashes On Many Devices?, as the popular movie-info iPhone app now seeming has a game-stopping bug, causing many devices to crash, and frustrating users who have in turn done the typical response of 1-starring the app in their frustration.

I think the only excusing there can be for the bug is, and that it is a single guy, and an unusual bug. It requires you to interrupt the loading of the app (or start it and not actually use it and create a profile), which he probably never had any reason to do. It's far worse when you see big companies exhibiting similar behavior, or taking close to a year to patch things they've promised to fix a long, long time ago.

I'm in the same boat as you, Minsc. While I had huge expectations for EpicWin, nothing of it's shortcomings bothered me that much. There are a lot of things you could refine (let alone add) like the ability to hide completed tasks, but I know that these stuff are coming down the line, so I'm enjoying it immensely in the mean time. I've never been a power-user when it comes to GTD apps, and just a week ago bought "2Do" (which is brilliant), so that could be a reason as to why I'm not concerned like some of the guys here. Also, for heavy stuff I could always go to 2Do until EpicWin brings the things I want.

I'm not defending the shortcomings, and it's surely not a good sign to advice someone to get a to-do app (just to aid another to-do app), but I'm explaining what I currently do. I haven't fired up 2Do since I bought EpicWin, as my tasks are simple enough and I'm only getting used to GTD slowly. But honestly, I'm really happy with the app.

It's pretty disappointing in a lot of ways discussed the past few pages. Worth the $3 for me though but that's probably because I'm using non-app-store bux when thinking about the value; I do realize that on the app store it better be a full adobe suite or something to merit that kind of price.

Song Summoner's been discounted for a while, before it goes back up, is it any good? Worth getting? Or is the gimmick ultimately useless?

Worth every cent (and more) if you enjoy the genre imo. Reviewed very well as well, so I feel comfortable highly recommending it, even though I've only been able to put in a few hours so far.

Yea, personally I have Grocery Gadget for my ToDo lists (:lol all you want, but I researched ToDo apps for days, and this is the only one that does iPhone to iPhone syncing instantly, so if I check off something, my group has it checked off 2 seconds later - the lack of a multi-user ToDo environment that didn't involve online accounts killed 99% of apps for me), but I find my Epic Win tasks are more chore-like short term oriented (cut grass, exercise, etc), and my ToDo list is more long term stuff (big multi-week projects, or stuff planned far ahead), and I use it for lists of stuff to pick at stores.

I agree, the app store really needs to branch out and start selling cars, houses, vacation, flight tickets, etc.

I have a question for all you CIV 4 fans: Is there a way to stop a city from producing? As in, I have no buildings left to build, but I don't want to building any people/machines?

I think Gameloft tends to be a blight on iPhone game development but wow.

Wow.
They've already released Let's Golf and Let's Golf 2 - arcadey golf games but seemingly based on the same engine as that game. Perhaps you should give one of those two games a try if you still consider them a "blight" :-) fantastic games.

So I picked up Godfinger the other day, and thought it was pretty fun. Great graphics, and has that addicting quality of those maintenance-style games. Giving it further thought though, I'm wondering if I should bail on it before I've sacrificed too much time. Is there much of an endgame to it?

I tried The Sims when it first came out for the PC long ago, sunk a few late nights in it, and deleted it. This feels like a similar situation.

I'm looking for a couple of simple time management styled games to play while exercising. Are those "___ Dash" games about the best?

No, there's not much of an end game to it at all. I just got to lv50 (the max). The last 10 levels or so were a real drag, but I wanted to get the achievements. Actually, even though I got the 500m throw, it hasn't registered as unlocked (though my leaderboard score is 565m) so I'm pretty pissed off with that :/

In Civ 4, yes, you can set production to wealth and it will turn all of a city's production into cash for your treasury. You could also, in theory, fiddle with your workers, focus on just food production to sustain your existing population and create a bunch of specialists.

If you're talking about Civ Rev (iPhone), you might be able to do some or all of those things, but I can't really say for sure. Been a while since I've played.

This comment being posted in this thread is going to cause some disappointment.

guess i'm one of the few that really likes the simplicity of epic win. could definitely use some cool improvements like wearable loot, but overall i think it's fine for what it is. i use things but have been finding myself more and more interested in keeping my to-do list as minimal as possible. epic win is doing the trick so far.

Yup, same here.

Currently playing around with Vellum (fun drawing app), Eliss, and Monster Dash. I also got "The Accidental News Explorer" which is pretty useful as well. God I love the AppStore.

After getting this Square Enix iPod Touch in the mail I've decided to jump into the mobile gaming madness.

Bought Fruit Ninja and Monster Dash without hesitation as I fucking love Halfbrick's games. Will be skimming over this thread in the coming days for recommendations.
I do need some advice on a great racing title though! =P

You can still do this in Civ Rev. You need to assign something to be produced, but switch your workers over to full science/gold. Since there are zero hammers, nothing will be made.

I need a game like Geodefense that has adjustable difficulty. Fun game, but I just... suck. A lot.

Did you put it on the easy mode? It is pretty tricky on hardcore, make sure you don't have it on that. There's plenty of TD games that are different from GeoDefense, but have adjustable difficulty like Defender Chronicles, Save Slyva and plenty others, but GeoDefense is pretty unique in the way you have the units on a set path and you can place towers anywhere you want, no pre-determined locations. Garden War is a little like it in that sense I guess, but GeoDefense is definitely one of the prettiest TD apps.

oh! I didn't realise there was the option for Novice Mode. You just saved my train ride tomorrow! Thanks for the suggestions.

This is not a bad way to look at it, and when I can launch the program again that's pretty much the point of view I'm coming at it from. You know, when I can get into the app again (ok, ok, I'm done harping on it).

Wow EpicWin is something that I've always wanted. I'll wait a bit for it to get some updates/improvements or a price drop though.

Is there an app (official or otherwise) that allows one to periodically (say on a monthly) basis wipe my iPhone's usage stats?

BiteSMS allows us to reset our SMS count automatically, and now I'm looking for something similar for the rest of my usage stats.

Creating a calendar alert to remind me to wipe the usage stats myself is kind of tedious.
