I got a used iphone over the the weekend and picked up Rolando last night. Pretty fun so far. What's the consensus on Crystal Defenders? I downloaded the lite version and was enjoying it far more then any other tower defense style game I've played (the Final Fantasy aesthetic helps), but it was slightly repetitive. Does the real thing offer enough variety to make it worth picking up?

I love it. Don't know why it gets hate. Their is an easy level with 4 different maps. Probably the one in the demo your playing.

Then a hard level with 4 different maps and the use of power crystals to power up your guys. With speed, power or range distance.

The an expert level with another 4 maps that has the power crystals also.

Plus for the 3 different levels of difficulty they add new characters or change regular ones for new sprites.

Only 30 waves total for all the levels. Not sure if it's more for hard and expert difficulty. I have only beat 3 maps on the beginner mode. I like it cause its a nice time waster while I am waiting for my girlfriend to get out of work. And because I have played Final Fantasy Tactics A2 so I can relate to the characters.

Thanks. I'll probably end up picking it up then. Yeah, I believe the Lite version is just the first beginner's map. I like the fact that the sprites/characters change between difficulty levels. I'm not a fan of the Tactics Advance games, but I do like the character design and there's just something about seeing an army of Moogle Black Mages spamming fireballs at my enemies that appeals to me so much more then any other tower defense style game.

Man, you know what I would love? A Dragon Quest game for iphone centered around the touch screen as its main mechanic.

Hear my cries, Horii!!

Ok, just got my Touch up an running. Bough Rolando and Saturday Night Fever so far. I've got about $20 more to spend.

Thinking of Dr. Awesome, but the sea of 99-199 games is frikkin' huge. I like RPGs, puzzle games on portables mostly. Not a huge action fan on handheld...

Oh, also...any good educational/training type games?

Touchscreen mechanics or not, I'm actually eagerly awaiting the day when publishers catch up to the idea of porting classic JRPGs to the iPhone.

Well, there's Vay currently, but I think I can hold out for something a little better.

I bought an iphone today, because I'm starting iphone game development now. :)

If you're looking for some help getting started, check out the tutorial my friend and I put together on using the Cocos2d game engine: http://monoclestudios.com/cocos2d_whitepaper.html

I'm updating it right now to cover the latest release of Cocos2d, as a few bits of the API have changed. Should be updated sometime this afternoon.

Good luck with development--we're working on games two & three at the moment, and I can't wait to get them finished and out there.

hey iphone devs: any card games in the pipeline, by chance? :D :D

None on my plate, but multiplayer card games would be amazing. Chances are there's something out there already.

I still play clubhouse games for the DS occasionally. If I'm sitting on that franchise, I would have had a port out by December. Sell it for $4.99 even.

I dont know if it makes a difference, but apparently there's a XBLA, Wiiware, and PSN versions of this game coming soon.

I've been playing WordJong every moment I can since I bought it. What a perfect little word search game.

this looks pretty interesting. thanks for the heads up. I'm looking for a change of pace from wurdle.

edit: Wario is that some weird PSN board sig?

Now that Crystal Defenders is coming to XBLA, I might get the iPhone version for practice :) I had always assumed it was rubbish because of a few bad reviews on the product page in the app store.

I meant to pick this up on the DS, but I never did. Didn't even know this was in the store, I'll probably buy this. :)

Hey guys, the Lite version of our new game "Shift" just went up on the App Store. It's a puzzle game where you slide tiles around to get them to goal positions. I would appreciate feedback on the puzzle design; I've been a professional games programmer for seven years now but I am only now starting design (and finding it to be really, really fun).

All programming / puzzle design by me, art and visual design by my buddy Tim, music by his buddy Jim.

The best part is, the DS version was $20, and the iPhone version is $5. Supposedly they are identical in content. There is an absolutely insane number of puzzles to solve, and multiple ways to solve them for a higher score.

What kind of game is it? It's hard to tell from the screenshot.

It's done by a friend I know. His first game, Blue Defend, was pretty awesome, but was somewhat short on content (as most highscore games are), this seems to fix all that. I'm suprised he managed to put in both touch and tilt control, and has a full control customization setup for the sensativity and deadzones. Initial 5 minute run is really really awesome. It sits somewhere between Geometry Wars and other similar 2D multi-directional shooters, I guess.

I'll throw some support behind Blue Attack as well. Just played the tutorial and it looks like its going to be a lot of fun.

Yeah, I saw that. I might wait to see if the PSN or XBLA versions are $5 and fullscreen. Not that I think S-E will price it that low, but I can't really justify paying much more then that for what it is. Not having the bottom half taken up by a useless blue circle would be great though.

I just downloaded the lite version of 1112. I just wish it wasn't episodic or they weren't charging $7.99 per episode. I really love the artwork and the interface, even if the "Ninth Gate" Johnny Depp lookalike is distracting.

Has anyone tried the official DDR game Konami put out.... I believe just the demo is currently available but it seems better than any of the other DDR clones currently available. Hopefully they price it smartly

I downloaded the demo for my girlfriend since she's a big DDR fan. It's kind of cool, but I can't beat the song no matter how many times I try. I don't know if it's my big clumsy hands or if it really is that difficult.

any news on potential good rpgs or adventures for the iphone ?

Just wanted to say I am SO bad at the DDR demo. SOOOOOOO bad. I've never played DDR before but I figured it can't be that difficult right? Maybe I just need to get used to it or something.

I've always thought Konami music games were extremely difficult for newcomers no matter what the platform is.

Those of you having issues with DDR S Lite should know that a lot of people have pointed out that the timing window seems to shift during the course of the song, meaning that what's a Perfect hit early on is not a Perfect later on.

Hopefully this won't be an issue with the final version.

Awesome. And just one final question, I have my credit card on my account, obviously, and I also redeemed a gift card. If I buy something on my touch now it'll be smart enough to take the price off the balance of the giftcard and not my credit card right?
