Can I make a different iTunes account using fake US address but still utilizing my non-US CC? I want to pick MGS Touch as there are no news of European release yet.

for anyone with access to a meijer store, on the front page of their flyer they have buy 2 get 1 free itunes cards. I picked up $45.00 worth of apps for $30.00 :)

Watching the Apple event thingie, it's just been announced that in the new iPhone 3.0 APIs there will be iPod lib access (among other things)... which means that AudioSurf will finally be possible
jar%20jar.gif

Plus bidirectionnal accessory communication, control pads accessories might be possible too

edit: also, DLC integration for paid apps (no need to go back to the appstore and buy another app, there will be APIs for the devs to integrate that into the app itself)

Might not be such a good thing though... they're talking about Sims 3 and...
An icon introduces new features available to the game which can be purchased right in game.
:/

Sims character is now going to use the media center and play music from the user's iPod library.
though which is cool

That would be wonderful if true. Not being able to access the music library on the ipod or itouch is/was a really dumb decision that closes off a lot of game ideas and concepts.

30 million iDevices? Pretty crazy.

Thx a lot, bought this one as well as I'm TD-junkie. Wonderful games, geoDefense is just beautiful.

Yeah stop there. Those 4 are all you really need. Well until another highly polished and interesting TD comes out.

Hell, yes. My two favorite game ideas just became a possibility on the iPhone. I know what I'm doing tomorrow. Did they say whether or not you had to charge for the DLC or if it was like the AppStore where you could offer free expansions as well?

Might not be such a good thing though... they're talking about Sims 3 and...
Well, any technology in the hands of the greedy and visionless can suck. The cure for cancer, when mixed with the Sims, would likely destroy the world in a flash of simlish.

Hello thread.

Question : all the games/applications work on BOTH the iPhone and iPod Touch ? Forexample if I buy an Ipod Touch, will I be able to use the App that recognizes music and gives you its title (sorry, forgot the name of this App). Well, does the iPod Touch have a mic ?

Thank you.

Well it's been officially announced and the Sims app uses the API:
Sims character is now going to use the media center and play music from the user's iPod library.
I doubt Apple is going to pull the rug under The Sims :D

Also, notifications are finally going to arrive

No visible mention, but if the DLC is free you can just release a free update including it can't you? (probably for that reason, DLC is only for paid apps)

TAP TAP 2 CAN FINALLY PLAY MUSIC FROM MY LIBRARY?!
More like Tap Tap 3 :D
and it'll have to be iOS 3.0 exclusive of course

edit: ngcomo shooter where you buy additional weapons with real money :/ I fear most of the DLC is going to be shitty moneygrabs (at least initially)
edit2: they used the VOIP APIs for in-game voicechat though, that's cool. And push notifications to invite your friends to a game.

You won't be able to run those apps. Touch doesn't have a mic or GPS and any app using those won't work.

Yeah, nickel and diming us on the way. 0.99 for that functionality guys.

Also, using real money to buy weapons in LiveFire. Its getting ridiculous.

Just like any shitty DLC on Xbox Live, I'll pass on it. And hopefully devs get the message.

Ah yeah one cool API though: peer to peer phone recognition (Bonjour over Bluetooth), that might be terrific.

non-edit: Apparently Smule has a new cool music app
Leaf Trombone World Stage invites users to learn wacky new instruments, participate in massive online social music learning experience
App lets users play music with a Guitar Hero like UI, users can also play duets
from the liveblogs, audience loved it

non-edit2 and non-game related: cut/copy/paste is in \o/ hell yeah \o/

Thank you, I guessed about the GPS but I didn't know about the mic.

At least all the games work on both systems ? (there isn't a system graphically more powerful than the other one ?)

second-gen iTouch is more powerful than any iPhone actually (faster CPU)

edit: paste undo via shaking the phone ALL OVER MY FACE

edit2: game related, anything will be pushable by the way (including sounds & images and stuff)

edit3: spotlight on the iphone, that's going to be awesome (assuming it does work as an app launcher)

So what's the battery life like while playing games on the Touch 2g? I've heard horror stories of it only lasting like 2 hours.

I think it depends on the game a bit but on the old models it is pretty short. I can believe the 2 hours thing.

So apparently we won't be getting GTA on the iPhone any time soon since it would be to edgy for the app store.

We weren't getting GTA any time soon and honestly I don't really care if we did otherwise I would be playing my psp or ds.

The touch does accept mic input through the head phone jack. You can use the iPhone buds, or pick up a separate mic.

7 Cities has been updated to 1.5, changelog is:
  • "Open Waters" mode, apparently a freeform TTD mode
  • A new map
  • Alteration (improvement) of tower stats and skills
  • New HUD at the bottom of the screen
  • 3x speed option
  • Gold-to-gems conversion

Maybe a game that really stresses the graphics chip and uses wifi at the same time.

Along with the announcement that this will be their final (major) update for the foreseeable future. Onto another game. That's why I am excited about paid DLC availability. Now there will be incentive to improve games over time. $.99 to buy a new course or two in Let's Golf!? Sure, sign me up. It's worth it. Obviously it'll be exploited as well, but I'll take the good with the bad. Gimme some kind of turn-based tactical MMORPG with a subscription/RMT that's well polished and has content added over time in my pocket and I'll be in heaven.

I would love to see more games with unique graphics e.g. Fieldrunners or geoDefense. 3D on iPhone is a waste imo, if you want to play 3D texture game go buy PS3 or X360. Maybe it's just me, but 3D on iPhone will be PS1 quality, and I don't want to watch that graphic every again lol. I do the same with my DS, most games have cartoon graphics.

So they get to charge us for stuff now that they would have otherwise provided us for free!

*shrug* They don't have to. Were I a fan of 7 Cities and wanted them to continue to develop content I would gladly pay a small fee per update. I get the play the game I like and they can continue to earn a profit from that game so as to further develop it and maybe expand into new games. If a game doesn't offer a good value proposition I simply won't purchase it, but then I've always been one to find one or two games and play them for a long period of time.

I'm as cynical as the next man when it comes to DLC, but I really don't see it having a huge negative impact on the types of games made for iPhone OS (EA, notwithstanding). A lot of the best apps have been relatively small, indie affairs that very much depend on the support of the community to be successful. I think apps that try to charge for patches or for frivolous downloads will quickly gain the ire of the fans. Unlike traditional markets, where marketing means never having to say you are sorry, the iPhone market is almost entire based on fan feedback.

Yup, I can confirm it crashes when trying to load. Did you try to delete it and re-download again? It's 1:30am here, too tired to try that myself.

Man, 3.0 is going to deliver even more potential to this device as a gaming platform. Soooooo excited.

I love how most of GAF won't accept the iPhone as a true gaming platform, when it's handily the most exciting/important.

Honestly who cares.

I sort of don't like it when people from this thread overly push it on the rest of the of the forum. Either you get it or you don't.

As long we keep getting good games I'm fine with everything. I'm kinda glad it feels like a niche thing so people don't get overly obnoxious like the rest of the gaming side often is.

I totally agree, i just find it hilarious when I come across that sentiment elsewhere here.

But there's the problem - we could be getting a lot more good games, but too many people see it as "just another cell phone". As long as it's niche there'll be very few big-name developers making high quality games. Imagine what would happen if all those 30 million iPhone owners started using the iPhone as their main portable gaming device - that's approaching PSP numbers in far less time.

I've said many times before I don't care if the iphone because another psp or ds. I like the current niche part of the market and the game types it currently gets as long as we keep getting sensible psp ports and ds ports. Sensible Pc ports and flash ports. And a nice mix of original games etc.

I never bought my iphone as another ds or psp therefore I don't care if we ever get a crazy amount of those sorts of games.

I understand of course that others may not share that opinion. I'm not going to pester gaf to get an iphone or touch. I hate people who over evangelize. Let them come if they see things that interest them. If they don't come then so be it.

iDracula patch is out.

I like the Frozen map so far. Armor is an interesting upgrade, flamethrower is fun but of course you burn out of it quickly.

Edit:

MGS Touch is fun so far, played the first three missions.

Right now you sit in a single place and control the reticle via touch. You cover by lifting your finger off the screen, and you tap to fire the weapon.

You start with an assault rifle and a sniper rifle. Pinch in to go to sniper, pinch out to go to assault rifle. There's something about where you can upgrade your assault rifle to an RPG I think, I dunno there's a huge wall of text at the beginning explaining everything that I eventually skipped past.

The graphics are pretty good and the gameplay is fun right now. It's not hard to navigate to shoot the different enemies, they have a circular time bar that shows when they're about to attack. So far things are starting to move pretty rapidly as far as enemies appearing. You can make it more difficult for yourself by shooting these duck things (or something) that are supposed to give you upgrade perks (I think). There's really way too much to read at the start, I'm completely skipping the story text at this point.

So far I'm glad I bought it.

Does the game follow the same storyline as the game or is there something different?
$7.99 seems a little pricey. I thought it'd be $4.99 or something. Might still buy it. I didn't even know it was coming out so early.

Serious question... does it spoil anything for a MGS noob who has been making plans to enter the series since forever?
