I decided on three iPhone games I am going to get when I receive my new 3G iPhone. Recommend me one more GAF!

Rolando
The Oregon Trail
Tornado Mania

Skip Oregon Trail.

Get Drop7 and UniWar (if it's still $1).

Nonsense. That version of OT is really good.

Drop7 and UniWar are both great though, and UniWar is a no-brainer at $1. Definitely squeeze in the latter before it goes up in price.

Anything but Rolando.

I've been playing Bix a lot lately. It's a super simple game, basically feels like a flash port, but it's addictive.

Pocket Tanks is now on iPhone/Touch.

Now everyone can play the superior game that Mr. Nicholas made cash off of in the first place.

Edge is the coolest game on the platform. great style and cool levels.

Crystal Defenders Lite is okay.
The animation is really terrible though. It's better on iPhone than PS3.

They added a touch mode in an update. I didn't try the classic mode, but if it's anything like the PS3 controls, then touch mode is more adapted to the iPhone.

I picked up:

Fieldrunner
UniWar

Both great games. I tried Crystal Defenders and I'm glad there was a lite version to download. Fun game, but bad control.

The touch controls were okay, IMO.

Any way, is there a good little RPG on the App Store ? I don't mind if it's only a few hours long.
But all RPGs I saw there crappy in just every way.

I must say I really like UniWar. I've kind of hit a brick wall in the campaign (mission 7) but there's a lot of content in there, and I like how you can play online and it'll email you when it's your turn or you can play in real-time. It's like those old chess by mail systems :p

Yeah, the control sucks. I'd skip it, and I am obsessed with tower defense games.

For what its worth I do think people sometimes overlook Edge and it really is one of the very best games on the platform. Especially after they implemented alternate control schemes they solved my only real complaint with the game. Great style and sensibility and indeed one of the real great games on the platform.

My first iPhone game is almost ready, it needs just some tweaking and the background music.
Here's a video:

Sorry for the crappy crappy crappy quality

I've done all the coding from scratch and the hand drawn(well, tablet drawn) graphics, now a friend is helping with the coding and another friend offered his help for the music.
It was a lot of work for such a small project, but I'm kinda happy with the result.

Very impressive but I can't help thinking you played the Orisinal version and decided to try copy it.

Almost as good as mine.

Tonight was the first time in the two years that I've owned the iPhone that I got a warning message because my battery was at 20%. I generally just use my phone for calls, email, and internet so my battery never dies or comes close to dying. There are two games that have kept my interest where I keep coming back to them, and are the reason my battery nearly died for the first time. Bejeweled 2 and Drop7. I'm enjoying the hell out of Drop7, and the action mode in Bejeweled 2 is great fun as well.

I picked up Uniwar because of the interesting screenshots, positive feedback, and price. It doesn't look like the type of game I'd play on the iPhone, but for $1 it doesn't hurt to try it anyway. It's crazy how the marketshare and ease of access to games on the iPhone has completely changed the way good games are priced on the platform.

I skipped out on Defend Your Castle on WiiWare, but went ahead and picked it up in the App Store.

The cool art style made the transition beautifully, and obviously this game was practically made for touch controls.

It's called TNA Wrestling. It's been mentioned in this thread a couple of times. Turn-based wrestling, experience points, dialogue trees, DRAMA, everything you'd expect from a JRPG but with wrestlers, really.

And completely awesome.

sorry for the double-post but uniwar is a steal at $0.99. love it. I'll also mention that I picked up Eliss based on gaf impressions and love it.

I went a bit overboard with buying iPhone games yesterday.

Airport Mania: First Flight
Bowman
Doodle Jump
Fieldrunners
Flick Fishing
Flight Control
Glyder
Playman Track & Field
Tiki Towers
UniWar
Zombieville USA

Just bought Wild West Pinball at sale price and am highly disappointed. Bare-bones table--reminds me of the Windows space-themed pinball game.

Tornado Mania is awesome despite what the whiny cheapskates on Toucharcade's forums say. It really is Katamari meets Simcity!

No quick save though. :(

Guys, GET TORNADO MANIA. I can't properly express just how awesome this game is but I'll try to explain what it's about. Basically you're a diabolical mad scientist trying to create your own utopia and convince people to live under your regime. In order to do so, you use your tornado machine to destroy other towns and steal buildings to move into your own city. So half of the game is the tornado portion -- a tornado spawns on a map and automatically moves in a circle. You touch the screen to change the path of the tornado. Picking up smaller stuff like livestock, cars, trees, etc makes your tornado grow which you'll need to do in order to swoop up buildings. This works by swirling your tornado around the building to loosen its foundation enough to get picked up. You're trying to do this without damaging the building since you're going to plant it in your town afterwards. Eventually, the city starts launching defenses like helicopters that dissipate your tornado if you end up in their crosshairs.

Once you do get some buildings you take them to your town and start building a city. I haven't seen too much of this mode yet but it looks pretty deep. You have categories of buildings (residential, commercial, cultural, and industrial) and you basically go all SimCity and have to keep the city layout balanced while making sure your residents are happy.

The trick is you can't pick up all the buildings you want since your tornado machine only has enough charge to go for 1 minute before the battery dies (not sure if this is extendable as you progress through the game). Different building types are also locked until you fulfill certain conditions in your own city -- ie, you can't immediately go and pick up a power plant for your city. You have to have a certain number of basic houses, barns, and country houses in your city before the need for a power plant arises. So I'm guessing this game is going to have a lot of longevity.

A lot of people on the TA forums are freaking out because Tornado Mania costs $5.99 and there's a free flash demo out but they're basically playing half of the game. For me, this is the most satisfying 6 bucks I've spent on an app yet and I can't recommend it enough.

Damn it all. I want to, but 6 bucks...

I just spent some money on Drop7 and UniWar....

Haha, I know - what a strange perspective this iPhone economy has given us. I was agonizing over paying 6 bucks for Tornado Mania until I realized I just went and dropped ten times that on a UFC 2009 preorder.

BUY IT!

It's an old school table with awesome physics. I'd rather have a somewhat sparse table with awesome physics than a flashy one with a retarded ball myself.

I find it very quaint and fun to play.

Is there supposed to be a lite version of Tornado Mania?

I clicked on the description to buy it but then it said try it for free so I figure I would do that first but I can't figure out how to get the free version.

Digital Chocolate is normally pretty good about having a lite version up in 1 week or 2 after a game release.

Here is a flash demo although the regular game has more to it.
