I don't think delaying the game so long has helped it, expectations for a lot of people go up as games delay, expecting more etc.
In a frankly legitimately exciting announcement that seems to have gone almost entirely unnoticed, studio CEO Paul Bettner has written with news that Newtoy, the iPhone developer behind the cult hit free multiplayer game Chess with Friends, has teamed up with artist Ashley Wood, the illustrator behind the PSP's Metal Gear Solid digital comic, to create a new game based on Wood's graphic novel World War Robot.
Bettner and his brother David cut their teeth at Ensemble Studios, where they worked on games ranging from the original Age of Empires series to Halo Wars -- the last game Ensemble produced before shuttering the studio -- before going on to found Newtoy, where they've got a happily Offworld-ian sounding "new dream" charter to bring in outside talent not normally found in games to collaborate on new projects.
Newtoy hasn't released many details of the World War Robot game quite yet, apart from a selection of Wood's artwork and this synopsis:
"In World War Robot, the human race is split by religion and politics as they wage a savage war between Earth and Mars. Giant robots augment the destruction with incredible battles, intense human/robot drama, a little black humor and some political intrigue thrown into the mix in this epic story."
Coming from a real-time strategy pedigree and creators of one of the most seamless online iPhone multiplayer experiences, though, hopes are high for something along the lines of a stylized portable Front Mission.

I also like it very much, but truth be told the game is a good 4 months old, I don't know why there's a resurgence of mentions of it these days.LCfiner said:Oh, I haven't seen it mentioned the last couple pages so I want to pimp out Strategery. A Risk-like game that short, sweet and very slick.
Actually, if you check their demo video it goes a bit beyond being a portal for nin.com (though it does include a re-layouted access to the NIN forum which makes it much more useable)Wallach said:Their app isn't really a game, it's basically an internet app that gives you a portal to a NiN-centric site/forum. This isn't abnormal; there are other apps that are basically just forum reading applications - things you could point to any forum on the internet (and there are certainly all kinds of "questionable" internet forums out there).
- Four Freestyle Parks (with a COMPLETE trick system including grabs, spins, and airs)
- Sixteen Race Courses (in addition to the preexisting 16 slalom courses)
- Freestyle Ski Jump Mode
- Four Tight Slalom Courses (the ultimate test of precision and skill)
- Ski School Training Mode (with three Ski School courses: basic skiing, ski-jumping, and tricks)
- Improved integration of the high score system (see your target time when selecting each course)
- Making a "V" stance while airborne in Ski Jump gives extra distance
All of this brings our grand total to:
- 7 Modes (race, slalom, freestyle park, tight slalom, distance jump, freestyle jump, ski school)
- 42 Full-length courses, all complete with Online High scores!

Devs of Car Jack Streets said:How do you plan to support the game in terms of updates?
We are already working on update 1.1 to address early feedback. We will be adding a map to the GPS, an additional steering wheel control scheme, some new vehicles such as a helicopter and tank, the ability to play your own music, and a number of smaller improvements to the controls and AI, as well as addressing a few bugs.
Beyond that we will be taking a closer look at improving collisions, adding more language support, and possibly some new missions.
What's next for the Car Jack Streets franchise?
Obviously the updates will only go so far and so we are planning a more heavily story driven mission pack or 1.5 version that will take place in the same city before moving on to the sequel.
Before then we'll release a free taster version. It's going to be a bit different from other Lite versions in that it will feature a new game mode and so will appeal to players that already have the full version as well.

I'm not that far, but it does seem like it's getting harder. The controls are pretty good though. My biggest problem playing is too much glare or getting the screen smudgy. I was fighting one of the bosses and I'd desperately wipe the screen during screen transistions I could see. :lolTheSoed said:Is it me or does Metal Gear Solid Touch get incredibly hard by Act 4? I had trouble with just the first part and now Crying Wolf is beating me up. I didn't have this much trouble with the actual Metal Gear Solid 4.
mrkgoo said:Looks interesting. It will be a tough job to beat DDR, however.
The music doesn't get me going, but I HAVE been dying for an Elite Beat-alike.
LCFiner! Tell me!
LCfiner said:OK, I played for about 6 or 7 minutes. quick impressions.
I like it.
But it's not perfect. the opening song is friggin' grating and it takes a couple levels before there's a tune that I enjoy. And there's only 10 songs in the game (I guess that's ok for 5 bucks)
that said, the music definitely has a techno pop feel and is very different compared to Ouendan (or EBA, obviously with the American pop). I prefer the Ouendan music but this is a personal preference and everyone is different. check the videos Stoney posted for a sense of the music.
The tapping mechanics seem to work OK. the timing window is very large on easy and but it seems more tight on normal.
The tuneys jump from the bottom of the screen and there's a purple circle showing where they land and where you need to tap. it's different from Ouendan, where you have numbers telling you where to tap in order. here you need to see the purple circles show up in order and then tap once the jumping Tuneys meet the mark. mix in the vertical movement of the tuneys, and it's a bit harder to figure out at first (which would explain the huge timing window on easy).
It's too early for me to comment about elaborate tapping patterns or anything that would show up on harder difficulties. I will say that the 2 boss fights I've played have been the best bits in the game so far. you have to hit your normal combos but then there's a small break where you slap the boss for damage or trace a pattern to keep going. I really do like the break up in the game.
Oh, and the art design for the bosses and the game world itself is quite nice. vivid colors and simple geometric shapes.
Now, there's also a DJ mode that I played a bit and has a different mechanic. this has 5 columns with tuneys moving up them in a straight path to a marker line. and you tap on the line when the tuneys hit it. plays more like Tap tap revenge than ouendan.
so, that's nice. there's also a "Crazy" mode but I haven't unlocked it yet. Perhaps by the end of the night...
So, yeah, I like it. worth 5 bucks to me but the music and the specific way hit markers show up might be turn off for some folks. check videos for the music before buying.
mrkgoo said:Thanks plenty for that. I decided I'd wait a bit. I recently bought zentomino, the first volume of rocko's Modern Life and Phantom hourglass, plus have some ds games to catch up on. I should hold out, at least for this week.
I'm a huge fan of ouendan, but not so much elite beat, leading me to think the music itself can help the enjoyment of a rhythm game. Not a huge fan of tap tap either. Have you played DDR s? I really like that and still am not done with that. Thanks again! I'll keep this on my wishlist.
LCfiner said:Never downloaded DDR on this thing. Is the lite version a fair representation of the full game? I should give it a shot.
First, the players are taken to the "weapon shop", where they take turns picking weapons. There are 20 randomly generated weapons. Two tanks, one always a human and one can be played with AI or a friend, lob shots at each other at a turn basis. Each weapon can only be used once. Different weapons have extremely varying effects. These effects generally are:
Damage
Dirt creation
Dirt removal
Randomizing of the tank's angle and power
Movement to the tank
Kick back
Giving the dirt around the area special properties
This gives the game strategic depth. There are also defensive weapons, such as shelter, flak, great wall, magic wall, and bouncy wall. This gives the game yet another strategic dimension. Hits give the opponents score, and there is no "health", so there will ALWAYS be 20 shots fired. At the end of the game, the person with the most points wins

Tried various options of trying to get them unstuck but no luck. Hoping Target will let me swap it out for a new one today.
What?LCfiner said:No one buy Flashback right now. the devs servers are destroyed and you can't download the extra data to play the game. plus their support page is also down.
I can't imagine what their decision was to have two downloads for game data... especially when that second download is so easily broken.
I'll have impressions when they get their shit together and I can play the game I paid for.
Rlan said:So did the GeoDefense price drop be here and go?
mrkgoo said:What?
I so want to buy this. I had this on the snes, and I love it. I nearly want to buy it just to get more ports.
But I'll wait. maybe.
edit: that extra download is so strange. I wonder if it's to circumvent approval process? In which case, it's a little strange (no weird content in Flashback that I recall), and you run the risk of crazy bugs or errors that were never approved.
Hmm...seems like it's a licensing thing. They release a 'player' for flashback, and you go and download the 'rom' or something. The video on youtube looks a bit hacked together (cutting in and out of the title - is that how it was? It wasn't on the snes version), and no sign of what the controls are like.
double edit:
Controls look pooh. Is it n the middle always? And the buttons are on the left?![]()
Wallach said:Sentinel is now on sale for 99 cents with the new update to v1.4. One of the better TD games on the platform, IMO and easily worth 99 cents.
ok, so i was able to download the game file over 3G.
and, so far, yeah, it's flashback. all i've done so far is collect my holocube and watch two cinemas.
the joystick shows up anywhere you press you thumb on the screen then slide from that point to move or jump. on menus, it's easier to flick up or down to select things.
i haven't any issues moving around the first couple platforms or anything but let's see what happens when combat starts. the buttons on the left for "fire", "use" etc are easy to press but it can be confusing (for someone like me who hasn't played this game in almost 20 years)to know that i need to pres "FIRE" to USE the holocube... they should have made that button context sensitive or call it "action".
anyway, i took a little lunch break to mess around with it but i wont be able to get into it seriously till tonight.
