Guys quit it with the praising of Infinity Gene.. I must not spend money!

I gotta buy 2 pairs of shoes this month and save up for another trip to Vegas next month.. and.. finish like 4 other games! Dang you all! :lol

Haven't played it but J davidson on the recent 1up podcast said it's the same ad on 360, cheaper and feels better on a portable.

Star Hogs went on sale this morning for $0.99. Some argue this game is better than worms and it has real online multiplayer. I'm having fun with it. iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=320408597&mt=8

Shit, I bought this at full price a few days ago and its my least favourite game in my collection. Not a bad game, but I'm just not into the gameplay and its the only game in my collection I regret spending $3.99 on.

Now for 99c, it could have stunk to high heaven and I wouldn't have cared - lesson learned. :P

Out of curiosity, where did you see the update, through iTunes?
I'm still waiting to see it come across on the site I normally look at for releases.

I woke up at 4pm (yeah, I stay up late and sleep late) and saw it at that time on my phone...

a little later i saw it on my itunes.

small note:

I ran the game 3 times and randomly usually between menu loading the game would crash on my 3.0 Touch 2G. Hope that helps.

Small not that might be harder to implement but nice is if the menus have music and possibly input sounds, but not a necessity. Just glad to have music playing while flying.

Holy crap, just tried Like a Rolling Stone on Space Invaders and that shit is really crazy and fast paced.

Just tried it... Fuck! You weren't kidding!

I'm really enjoying the music mode. I was looking forward to it, but didn't expect it to be this much fun!

'Gimme Shelter' works really well.

'A Night in Tunisia' is a fucking cool level.

Groove Armada's 'Superstylin' is a perfect fit!

Jumped in and bought Space Invaders and Monkey Island. amongst a few others I am yet to try.

Been playing Infinity Gene using the Dizzee Rascal - Bonkers (Doorly Remix) what a head fuck... its amazing!!!

after like four full attempts on the 2-3 boss i realized i could nagoya on him.... so i just flew right under his ass i love the puzzle elements =)

I like it. My only problem is the verb menu... it's hard to do a couple of puzzles but you can always switch to old school mode.

Story about piracy on the iphone.

Few developers have gone on record about iPhone piracy in the last year, allegedly for fear of drawing attention to an issue Apple would rather suppress, but a few squeaks and leaks have assured us that it's happening.

This latest story gives us some idea about the extent to which it's happening. Developer Abraham Stolk has revealed on his blog that his game The Little Tank that Could, which had sold 45 copies at the time of his writing, has been downloaded illegally more than 1000 times.

It went like this: having believed that his game would be a success, Stolk was disappointed to note that it sold just 20, ten, five, two and eight copies respectively during its first five days on sale. However, when Stolk went to check the online leaderboard server logs for the game he discovered that 1114 players had been logged.

"So how can a game that sold 45 copies, have 1114 players? That does not make any sense? I have no reason to believe that Apple's sales reports are faulty, so the answer is piracy. Very quickly after the release of 'the little tank that could' the game got cracked, and distributed via torrents."

Having established this, Stolk applies the principle to the App Store as a whole. "For every game you sell on the appstore," he says, "there are 24 pirates playing a bootleg copy. Out of 25 people, only one will choose to pay."

This isn't strictly true, of course. Different games are likely to be pirated at different rates depending on the demographics they appeal to and so on. Just yesterday we heard that F.A.S.T has generated more than $1m with 500,000 downloads in just six weeks. If Stolk's equation applies, that means 12.5m people have downloaded the game in total. Unlikely.

This is troubling news for any developer looking to board the iPhone train, but it probably shouldn't discourage anybody from doing so.

just tried infinity gene with a new song I just got and I swear it generated an IMPOSSIBLE level. It was gara gara go by big bang. It doesn't read the music and base it off that, played a song which ended up looping a bit cos the level hadn't ended. wonder how it does it.

anyway gara gara go by big bang, impossible!

edit - just tried with another version of the song, same song but lower bit rate, some meta data was different, some same. the level was slightly different but almost the same. interesting.

All songs loop for me right before the boss battle. I think that is part of the design.

The piracy part is pretty annoying. But it's been a fact of life forever and it's not going anywhere, anytime soon.

I maintain that the majority of pirates (of iPhone apps anyway) are people who would never have bought your game in the 1st place, maybe wouldn't even had heard of it to begin with. So one should probably not consider a pirated copy as "a missed sale." Though it does kinda boil one's blood to hear that something sold so few copies while an excessive amount of pirates got their hands on it--

At this point, many of us iPhone devs (early into it) aren't doing it for the money - just yet - since it's really hard to get returns anyway. Just trying to get a name out there and get some reputation, get a little piece of the community. Hell, if piracy actually helps with that, than all the better. If you're genuinely gonna make money on this thing, it's probably gonna come in the long run anyway, not when you release a little tiny app like this fellow's, during the over-saturated times we live in, with little to no marketing push behind it.

Infinity Gene is incredibly awesome. I'm in love with it in the same way I felt about Vib Ribbon when I first played it back in 1999.

Speaking of which, they need to port Vib Ribbon to iphone. Damn Sony. They'll never do it.

Just got Star Hogs for $.99 while I wait for the Worms update. It is awesome!

Might not get Worms at all because this game is so fun!

Buying the Infinity Gene game but also considering the Asian guys app. I know it's a bunch of pics and it is a shallow app. Maybe I won't buy it.

I just tried Taxiball.

Game seems cool, but I hate tilting my phone away from me. I mean, I quite simply can't see the screen from that angle. Am I doing it wrong ?

Just have to say space invaders infinity gene is worth it. Fantastic game!

This game has blown my mind. A must buy for shump fans. Great design, retro coolness, it's fun, controls well, and the music mode is friggin awesome. A shump on the iPhone lol, never thought that genre would be awesome on the iPhone.

another +1 for space invaders infinity gene.

i was surprised that that the song you pick plays in the background during music mode (i had read that it did not), had awesome fun with Tool's Anemia.

Okay everyone, you can stop recommending me Space Invaders Infinity now.

Regards,

Gene

bad joke I know, but my name is actually Gene so :P

Can anyone recommend or point me to a run down of the tower defense games? I really like those but it seems like there's a ton of 'em and they're all mixed in the strategy category and not always easy to find.

Also, thinking of jailbreaking my phone even though I just got it last week because of the complete lack of icon organization on the springboard. Any reason I shouldn't or is there any non-jailbreak solution?

I'm not a huge TD fan but I'm just helping point you in the right direction. The iPhone Gaming Recommendation thread has some of the best ones listed. Here's the specific post, just CTRL + F for tower defense

I'm not a huge fan but Star Defense was fun, just pretty challenging. Great graphics. Other fan favorites seem to be geoDefense and The Creeps.

Go to "Settings" - you can reset the neutral position so you don't have to tilt the phone away from you.

Thanks for giving the game a shot!

Fuck Buttons was ANAZING in Audiosurf.

Yeah it was. I wish the synaesthesia was as sophisticated in this. If Apple'd lighten the fuck up, a richer Music Mode would make this perfect.

Really can't get over how great this is. A huge Extreme and Extreme 2 fan, being introduced to this on Offworld I was kind of like, "Looks neat." But it's something else entirely. It's a real shooter, the music is great, the gameplay intelligently operates within the device's limitations, the aesthetic is through the roof and it even has a nice little experimental "narrative". I plugged my iPhone up on my nightstand, prepared to go to bed and decided to play Common Descent one more time... and here I am. Definitely the best game on the iPhone.

I'm serious about these Web levels for Isotope. Really makes levelling and making money go fast. I've got all of my ships fully levelled up and 3 million dollars now. I finally got to try Satelites.
(I also broke 10 hours playtime recently)

I love Isotope.

Also: Inifinity Gene is going to make me put more music on my iPhone. (weird)

Couldn't this also say that there are about 1000 people who will pirate anything no matter how bad it looks? :lol
When I was checking on my apps' piracy, I noticed a lot of stuff on the torrents that nobody in their right mind would pay for. These guys are organized and they just bypass the AppStore completely. I guess it means that no matter what, you'll have at least one guy buying your app. I wonder if you could release something for $200...

I really wish Apple would do something about how easy it is to pirate apps.
