Looks like we're getting another football title in addition to the already known about Madden 10.

Good Afternoon!
*
Just wanted to let you know of Gameloft’s upcoming iPhone title, “NFL 2010”. Screens are attached for your reference.
*
It’s the first FULL football simulation game on the AppStore and features full team rosters so players can pick their favorite NFL team to play with. We will release more details as they become available. Price is still TBD, but we hope to see it on the AppStore by the end of the month.
*
We’re really excited to bring another great sports title to the AppStore following the success with Real Soccer and Let’s Golf

I really like Act Sudoku. I was sold when I was reading a discussion between the developer and a self-confessed sudoku addict complaining about how puzzles needed to be unique, had to be symmetrical, and a slew of control issues. The developer implemented every one. He hasn't updated in a while, but it's solid as it is. Not sure about price.
Thanks, I added it to my AppShopper wishlist. It seems that it used to fluctuate in price a lot from $2 to $1 to free so I'll hold out on it for a while.

Shameless plug.., here are a couple of screenshots of our upcoming 365 Puzzle Club game. It features over 8000 Sudoku, Kakuro and Picross (we call them Tenpenki) puzzles in all. It also has daily games to play that go towards your monthly score, with worldwide and Facebook high score tables. The controls work really well and we're looking forward to releasing it. It should be out around September.
That looks great. I would buy it at $1 or $2 without hesitation.

Thanks!
Kakuro is basically crosswords with numbers, but you aren't allowed to use the same number in an answer more than once. See here:
http://www.kakuro.com/howtoplay.php

As for the sudoku puzzles, yeh, they are symmetrical etc.. although on the easier levels we fill a few more givens in at the start to help players out.
All Picross puzzles are unique and handmade too.

Sweet. Don't forget to keep the heads up here! I'm definitely interested! Oh yeah, be sure to make the homepage icon awesome. I know it's bad, but how that looks play a large part in whether I keep an app or not.

Review for Reign of Swords 2.

Reign of Swords 2 Review
One of the iPhone's best strategy games goes online.
by Levi Buchanan
August 3, 2009 - iPhone gamers looking for a more-than-acceptable to Advance Wars need click no further in the App Store than Punch Entertainment's Reign of Swords 2. This sequel improves almost everything about the very good original turn-based strategy game. It moves the action from the staple fantasy environment to a mythic Middle East. Fantastical new units like the Blood Gorger take the field. But best off all is the addition of real online multiplayer against human opponents, easily accessible via a smart interface that lets you actually manage multiple skirmishes at the same time.

You do not need to have played the original Reign of Swords to get into the second episode -- although you can import the army you built up in that game into Reign of Swords 2. Punch resumes the story of the once-fractured Carrone Empire. The quest to unite the kingdoms into a single empire leads your hero into unknown territory to the east. Here, there are rumors of amazing new armies that command magic portals. If you can subdue these armies and take possession of the portal magic (or is it technology), then perhaps you could institute an era of peace.

These portals allow you to warp units across battlefields, but they go both ways. This introduces an entirely new wrinkle. You cannot just push into an incoming army and overwhelm it or draw it into a bottleneck. You must manage the portals by sometimes dividing up your forces and guarding against incursions.

If you are familiar with the general set-up of turn based strategy games, then you'll feel right at home in Reign of Swords 2. During each side's turn, you move units and initiate attacks. Controls are simple thanks to a very precise finger drag mechanic for drawing out the paths for your units. You can also just tap destinations and the game will figure out the easiest route -- although that may not exactly be in your best interests and the long way around is sometimes key to survival. Each unit has different strengths and weaknesses which are balanced against other units. A small pikeman is no match for a wizard, for example... but surround a vulnerable unit with a few pikemen and you'll finish them off.

The change in scenery allowed Punch to be much more creative with the units in Reign of Swords 2 -- this is something I was extremely happy to see. Knights, kings, wizards... done to death. Now you can roll out some pretty intense-sounding units like Dune Siren and Blood Gorger. The artistry for the units will appeal to any gamer with fond memories of classic systems. This is great hand-drawn pixel art.

However, as solid as Reign of Swords' single-player game is, without a robust online game it would be difficult to remain enthusiastic for too long. Thankfully, Punch has crafted an intelligent online multiplayer mode where you can easily send your armies into battle against friends or not-so-friendly folks over the network. You take your turn and then send it off. When the other player checks on the game and sees you have taken your turn, they watch what happened and then respond. It is a very easy-to-use system. Punch promises that the game will soon support push notification, which will take a step out of checking on online battles. However, a recent update has addressed issues like matches that an opponent never checks in on which essentially holds your units hostage. (You can only have one unit active in a single online battle. You cannot spread them across zillions of battles.) Now, if the battle is ignored for 24 hours, your opponent auto-surrenders.

Reign of Swords 2 was reviewed with version 1.2.

Closing Comments
Reign of Swords 2 is not only an excellent update to the first Reign game on iPhone, but it's also just a great turn-based strategy game, period. If you like the genre, then you will like this game -- it really is that simple. The online mode is very good and stands to only get better when Punch is able to roll out push notification, which will remove a couple steps for checking on your in-progress battles. Couple all of this with an intriguing new setting and some inventive (and well-drawn) units, and Reign of Swords 2 is easy to recommend. As much as I'd love to keep it exclusive to iPhone, it would be great to see XBLA, PSN, or WiiWare gamers getting in on the fun...

Aw...just finished Infinity Gene. Want more "official" levels and things to unlock. Maybe there's more to unlock...still got the extra stages. But that has got to be the fastest I've ever finished an iPhone game.

That was a bit of hyperbole on my part when I said Minigore has better graphics than a 3D DS game. If they are better, it's only slightly, if at all.
The DS doing 3D isn't anything notable, most of the time. For a small developer to make such a great looking game on iPhone for 99 cents says a lot about how much easier developing for, and how graphically capable, the iPhone must be. We know what you mean.

PAC man championship edition can't come soon enough. I am beyond words excited. It has been my favorite 360 game since it's release.

Kind of strange to make 2 different versions of Pacman i guess. We are still getting that other weird pacman with the giant ghosts.

Finished Infinity Gene. GREAT. There were a few spots where the ship went under my thumb and I lost sight of what I was doing, but otherwise it worked great. And it has some really awesome music!

the funny thing about Bobby Bearing is it came after and bore quite a lot of similarities to Spindizzy - certainly way more than Bobby Bearing does to Edge for a start.

Also, the cube changes the gameplay completely - Edge is about stepping through a level, Bobby bearing is about controlling momentum etc.

So anyways, perhaps we can get Electronic Dreams to sue Edge games after all these years to stop the new Bobby Bearing Iphone game coming out?

p.s. Space Invaders I.Gene - OMFGBBQ

I wanna buy Monkey Island but I'm a little reluctant. The reviews are all over the place.
Personally I like it better on PC, having double dipped. The iPhone version is good, but I like the PC controls better. That's just my opinion though.

Also I just jumped onto the Minigore love train, and am enjoying it immensely.

I double dipped and bought it on XBLA and iPhone, and I prefer the iPhone version, if only for the portability. The controls took a bit to get used to, but it makes a ton of sense once you get the hang of it. The cursor is never under your thumb, and the two finger swipe to go to classic mode is awesome.

In the future, I'll just get the iPhone versions of these Lucasarts games.

Hmmm.

So should I bother with Reign of Swords I then? Or just go to ROS II?

Well first I would play the lite version to make sure you like it but if you are going to buy, I would go with 2. It's a bit of an improvement over the first for the iphone. The first was sort of a quick and dirty port job and while the second still isn't a perfect app in terms of iphone usability, its better than the first in most aspects.

I don't have a PC so I can't get the PC version. It's XBLA or iPhone and iPhone is cheaper....but it could also be borky...but then again...how could it be more borky than a controller.

I've never played an Adventure game in my life other then I have no Mouth and I must Scream and I can definitely say, with everything I'm playing on "real" consoles, I'm enjoying the hell out of Monkey Island.

I want to buy a touch for gaming and internet but I'm hesitant because I don't want another version of the touch coming out thats faster and runs games better. Am I wrong?

If PC isn't an option, go iPhone.

DO NOT BUY. New models will be unveiled in September at the annual iPod event. We have no idea what's coming, but it's logical to assume storage bumps and possibly the faster chipset from the 3GS.

Thank you. Thats the thing with apple products, they make really good electronics but you gotta have your ear to the ground or you might buy something that will be updated in a month.

Nah, they only update once a year, in September. It's like clockwork. iPhone in July, iPod Touch in September.

Also, if you ever need a quick check, MacRumors has a pretty good resource in their Buyer's Guide: http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/

This might be helpful for you and others who feel this way about buying Apple.

Towers can be built on a hex grid which is constructed of several types of terrain. For instance, some hex tiles you can't build on but creeps can move through, and some tiles speed creeps or even heal them. The amount of variety in each level really tests your tower defending skill and how well you can utilize the included towers to survive. A strategy you discovered in a previous level can be rendered completely ineffective thanks to the next level's hex grid layout.

I can't wait for this! This looks so good!

I was looking forward to the Wild West 'sequel' until I got fed up of the ball miraculously dropping down the sides. That's some whacked out physics right there. Made the game unbearable to play for prolonged periods.

Wonder if this one will suffer from the same problem.

Looks like the new one is a lot easier and it doesnt have that problem.

Blimp Adventure - on sale for $1

I bought this a few days ago. For only a buck, this is a great buy. Some levels are too hard with the time limitation; but overall I find the game very satisfying. Adds some variety to my iPhone library.

I CANNOT wait for geoDefense Swarm. Looks amazing!

My buddy Ben and I released our first iPhone app today, iFist, available for a buck on iTunes. It's a fairly simple game - combining the idea of the electronic game Simon with the motif of Rock, Paper, Scissors - and it's not what you'd call "cutting-edge" compared to some of these other apps out there - but it is quite fun, and good for short bursts of gaming.

iTunes link

The two of us are veterans of PC and Console gaming development for several years now, we wanted to try something simple to test the waters/figure out the pipeline, and the result is pretty fun. Keep an eye on us for some much bigger projects in the coming months.

If you're a fan of games that test your concentration and reaction time, I think you'll really enjoy playing iFist.

Thanks for your support!

-Ron

P.S. Please let us know how you like it by reviewing the game or by posting a comment below.

EDIT: Here's a promo code if someone wants to check it out our game. I've a long day ahead of me, but I'll drop another one or two in this thread later today if someone else wants to grab one.
