Blimp Adventure - on sale for $1

I bought this a few days ago. For only a buck, this is a great buy. Some levels are too hard with the time limitation; but overall I find the game very satisfying. Adds some variety to my iPhone library.

I CANNOT wait for geoDefense Swarm. Looks amazing!

I bought Blimp 1.0 and I did not like it. I really tried to get into it but felt the gameplay was missing something. At least the first 5 levels were tedious "you must collect 5 (insert random object)" "go here" "ok now go here!"
But maybe it's gotten better since 1.0

Yep, that's right, anything that uses that control scheme is just like Geometry Wars.

The personality of the game is quit a bit different, and the AI doesn't stray much from swarming directly towards you.

You mean Robotron.

:D

Call of Duty clone Sandstorm coming soon from Gameloft, looks pretty good.

http://bit.ly/cJLec

Part of me laughs, because just like you see Transmorphers or Snakes on a Train at the movie store, Gameloft pumps out knockoffs of popular games.

The other part of me says FUCK YES DAY 1. I played Ghost Recon on N-Gage and it was actually a really good game, Gameloft really knows how to develop for their platform. This will be a great gameplay experience, for sure.

Oh joy, more horrific Namco digital D-Pads! :::sigh:::

Look at that monstrosity...Why would the up and down be bigger than the left and right for starters?

I weep for C.E. and it sucks because as a fan I'd of eaten it up in two seconds...Never again Namco.
I'm pretty sure it will have swipe and virtual joystick options as well, a la the original Pac-Man on iPhone.

My buddy Ben and I released our first iPhone app today, iFist, available for a buck on iTunes. It's a fairly simple game - combining the idea of the electronic game Simon with the motif of Rock, Paper, Scissors - and it's not what you'd call "cutting-edge" compared to some of these other apps out there - but it is quite fun, and good for short bursts of gaming.

iTunes link

The two of us are veterans of PC and Console gaming development for several years now, we wanted to try something simple to test the waters/figure out the pipeline, and the result is pretty fun. Keep an eye on us for some much bigger projects in the coming months.

If you're a fan of games that test your concentration and reaction time, I think you'll really enjoy playing iFist.

Thanks for your support!

-Ron

P.S. Please let us know how you like it by reviewing the game or by posting a comment below.

EDIT: Here's a promo code if someone wants to check it out our game. I've a long day ahead of me, but I'll drop another one or two in this thread later today if someone else wants to grab one.

hrm ... I suppose it was too much to hope that the code was still unused, since no one explicitly said that they had taken it.

:( It's gone.

How many of you guys are active with plus+? I added (I think I got them all) the names from the plus+ thread but it seems none of you played past the first 2 stages of star defense, for shame!

I'm active in it but my sn isn't the same as the one listed in OP, is now jonathanwins. I stopped playing for a while in SD, I think it was the third level that gave me some trouble but I beat it yesterday and am playing more again.

That doesn't make things any better. Unfortunately some types of games just do not belong on the Touch IMO.

C.E. is barely playable as it is on the 360 with it's poor D-pad.

Well, he did say Geometry Wars, though to be fair a real Robotron cabinet feels a lot different from Geo Wars.

Referring to the gameplay, not necessarily the controls...

I get tired of people saying "Oh it's a Geometry Wars clone" when Geo Wars is a clone in itself. Just annoying to a retro gaming coot such as myself.

Yes it does. Swipe works fantastically.

Anyone want to give me a brief recap of everything good between July 25th and today? I notice Minigore is out, but even reading the last few pages of this thread and checking TouchArcade, I'm sure I've missed something.

No need to make effort in terms of screenshots, I'll Appshopper or PandoraBox anything I'm interested in, I just want a list of titles.

Thanks.
Space Invaders Infinity Gene. There's no real point in mentioning anything else.

The Deep Pinball:

My impression after an hour or two: Nice new table layout that feels fresh and well known at the same time, but which is a little unbalanced.

+ nice graphics, seem even more smooth than WWP
+ a little easier than WWP, less side outs
+ missions
+ nice music, sound & speech
+ loads fast

- more speech in 'english'
- missions are simply hitting one special target/lane
- sunken ship is completely useless, not enough points to get there
- 3 ugly targets instead of one moving "Dirty Harry" - feels cheap
- like in the first one I seem to become worse the more I play. Got 14M in my second game and never reached that again.
- sometimes crashes after loading (3.0.1)

Overall it is more of the same, just different ;)

At $0.99 it is a steal of course. Those who hoped for perfection in this one will be disappointed, for me it still is lot of addictive fun.

So I picked up Dungeon Scroll.

A short monster killing rpg that you do damage by making words from a limited pool of letters. Think Scrabble crossed with an old school rpg. No story, just a kind of pick up and play game. Global high score list that deletes scores older than a week. 25 "dungeons", magic tiles, advancing levels of damage make this a pretty neat game for an occasional go.

Listening to the Shatter soundtrack while playing iSR is so fitting.

In other news: I sure can't wait for that new Tron movie to come out...:lol

Yeah, OK.

As someone who has played Pac-Man and Galaga for over 27 years, the 'swipe method' sucks.

It kills me because they LOOK fantastic, but control like utter shit.

If the swipe method works for you then so be it but I find it unacceptable how sloppy these controls have been imposed.

My man, you just described what could potentially be the most addictive game I have ever heard about. Consider it bought!

That pretty much mirrors my experience with the game. It's much better than WWP, but there's still plenty nagging problems.
- The game is not any more smooth btw, it's exactly like WWP after its last update - table scrolls at 60FPS and ball moves at 40FPS, which feels pretty weird if you look at it to be honest. The performance is identical even on 3GS.
- I also really wish I could disable all the speech, it's just not very good.
- Your bumpers don't feel like real pinball bumpers at all. They are too large, and the pocket between them is too small. Being so large, they launch the ball like crazy and don't let you do much if any ball juggling, which is part of fun in any good pinball.

Holy cow, that looks great! Thanks for the heads up.

You know, I'd probably play more games on my Touch if they didn't suck the holy hell out of the battery. :::sigh:::

Sweet, let me know what you think, I actually think it's quite neat with a nice old-school charm - that little noise that it makes when you enter a dungeon is very nostalgic. There really isn't much to this game, so I'm not sure if I'll keep this around forever, but after I downloaded it, I played it for at least an hour non-stop. Even if that's all I play it for, a nice 99c.

Okay then, what type of brilliant control method do you propose?

Edit: That Dungeon Scroll game sounds badass.

So I bought Reign of Swords II and really loved...the first level. But what the fuck, how am I supposed to get passed the second level. Getting to the warp points while be outnumbered about 5 times over is impossible. Any suggestions?

I just bought this and unlocked the stage after Russia... so awesome :D

A new graphical roguelike "100 Rogues" is apparently due in a few months- looks pretty cool since it's been designed directly for the iPhone OS.

KB: Most games will not result in completion of the game, as it is very difficult. It's hard to say exactly how long the game will take to beat, but we estimate somewhere around 30-45 minutes.

(I never knew Diablo started as turn based?)

JH: What other games, roguelike or otherwise, would you say have inspired your game?

KB: Diablo (especially the alpha version which was turn based), Shiren the Wanderer, Chess, WarCraft III, Team Fortress 2. I've always had a deep love for randomly generated content, as well as turn-based gameplay, which is what led me to discover the Roguelike genre. The first Roguelike I actually played was POWDER, which I still absolutely love, and when we first started making this game our original idea was "hey, let's make a POWDER clone for the iPhone!" It ended up becoming much different.

The interview is pretty good: http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2009/08/column_play_qa_with_keith_burg.php

Picked up Space Invaders Infinity Gene last night on a whim, not knowing what to expect (but expecting it to be good, after how awesome SIE was.

I was floored. I love Infinity Gene. I love how the game evolves as you score points, and the way the game actually morphs from original space invaders into something totally different rather quickly. The visuals are fantastically retrograde as well.

I highly recommend Infinity Gene.
