For Capcom fans, they just released a free Capcom News and Updates App.

I guess if you want to stay on top of all the great new Capcom interactive media properties (TM), this is probably worth checking out.

Isn't Simon the Sorcerer an oft-laughed about series?

Certainly cannot stand up to the might that is Monkey Island.

The recent episodes certainly are mocked, yeah - the rights are owned by a company that had nothing to do with the original ones, and they've not been of the highest quality, shall we say. The first two games, however, are really quite good indeed - better than Amazon Queen in my opinion, but not quite up to the standards of the Lucasarts greats or BASS.

I feel bad for buying Monkey Island and not playing it. Today my goal is to power through it, shaking for hints liberally along the way. Who's with me!? Lets knock this game out!

Certainly cannot stand up to the might that is everyone else at NeoGAF.

Simon the Sorcerer is a hilarious point and click adventure, with an awesome sequel (and some other games that don't really exist). It's extremely funny, and very british,

Now that? Horribly cheeky, and more than a little bit unpleasant. Are there rules that'll help get this pulled?

Oh this will get pulled. Firemint know about it. (And on the developer's description of the game, it's a direct copy and paste, and says the game is by Firemint!).

How long will it take to get pulled? I'm guessing: Longer than it took Apple to "review" and approve it.

PandoraBox has an OS3-only update this morning. No push notifications mentioned in update notes, and it sounds like an overall face lift.

The update notes do mention that future updates will include a mystery feature, and it's pretty obvious they're referring to push updates.

Dungeon Scroll is pretty addictive. I am however somewhat surprised the game accepted words like "ass" and "fuck", when another app (a dictionary no less) had to be censored (http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/05/apples-new-low-censoring-a-dictionary/).

Keep up with the play. Apple didn't censor it. The developers chose to censor it after Apple suggested they wait until 3.0. And they didn't suggest that based on the words you have stated. And Dungeon Scroll doesn't really inadvertently show you the words anyway (Otherwise all apps with a keyboard should be banned because you can spell out any word with that).

Whose release date the developers didn't know at the time they got the suggestion. Which is why they initially tried to censor it and resubmit it. And the reviewer still asked that they flag it 17+.
mrkgoo said:

Let me quote Gruber:
Now, it’s possible that the Wiktionary database contains certain “urban slang” (to use Schiller’s term) that warrants a different rating from other English dictionaries, but the feedback Matchstick software received from the App Store reviewers was very specific. They were flagged for the words cunt, fuck, and shit.
Oh dear, you're wrong.

Masklinn said:

Correct, but it still wasn't Apple who censored them.

Let me quote Gruber:

Oh dear, you're wrong.

Let me Quote Phil Schiller:

Apple did not ask the developer to censor any content in Ninjawords, the developer decided to do that themselves in order to get to market faster.

Contrary to what you reported, the Ninjawords application was not rejected in the App Store review process for including common “swear” words. In fact anyone can easily see that Apple has previously approved other dictionary applications in the App Store that include all of the “swear” words that you gave as examples in your story.

Perhaps it's back pedaling, I don't know. All I know is that my dictionary has those very words in it. But then we all know how inconsistent the appstore approval system is.

And lastly:
I believe Phil Schiller that Apple’s policy is not to reject App Store dictionaries for containing swear words. However, it’s clear this policy has not been consistently enforced by the App Store review team. The problem, as I see it, is not that one or more App Store reviewers were unaware that it is acceptable for dictionaries to contain words that are not acceptable in other contexts. Mistakes are inevitable. The problem is that there’s no good recourse for developers to appeal such a mistake. It should have been enough for Matchstick Software to point out that the words flagged as objectionable in their initial rejection are in fact present in several other dictionaries already in the store.
Gruber is pretty on target with his commentary. Thing is it's possible the app review did flag those reviews, and maybe even implied that that was why it was warranting a rating - but few people have access to that review so to speculate otherwise is kind of pointless. WE all know the appstore approval is messed up. And we all know why (different people involved in the review process will always lead to inconsistencies). I just don't see why it's that big a deal to people.

You're right, my wording was incorrect. I still don't think they (the dev) should have had to censor it at all though. It's a dictionary after all, and the dictionary.com app didn't have to remove references to any swear words (this was before 3.0) or put up a 17+ rating.

As far as Dungeon Scroll is concerned; on other consoles you're not allowed to enter swear words and have the game accept it. Although admittedly, Apple's policies are probably different here regarding user inputted swear words.

And IMO all of the reviewers should be basing their decisions on the same clear rules. It's very inconsistent right now, and to not complain about it, is ignoring the problem.

If Phil Schiller is to be believed, the app was given a suggestion for rating based on other vulgarities, not those words, though according to Gruber, those words were at least flagged in the review. Who knows how it went down.

But ya, there is a huge inconsistency. I'm all for complaining - it's good that these things get noticed so things can get fixed and we can move on, but it's just tiring hearing it in an unrelated thread. If you want to discuss it, there's a multipage thread right on this topic. Apple know something has to be done about it, I'm sure.

I don't think it's so much about a difference in policy, so much as a general inconsistency related to human error in the app approval process. I think they all do follow the same rules, but those rules probably aren't explicit. Or they're too explicit. Regardless, there will always be mistakes made.

And I know about the swear words in Dungeon Scroll. It's hilarious to use them against monsters. And I'm adicted to Dungeon Scroll. And I must be the only person in NZ to have bought it, as I'm the only one on the local scoreboard. :/

I think you're up on the global list as #5 or something, which is pretty impressive. Last I checked I was the only person from the Netherlands who bought it.

No idea how the #1 person got their score.

I'm in the market for an ipod touch, but my budget is very limited ($100-$125). I have an opportunity to get a fairly banged up 8gb (1st-gen) for $125. Is this a good deal? Can I play most games on it? Should I hold on to my money and put it towards a possible 3rd-generation unit in the future?

:lol I've only played normal through to finish twice - I've been playing wizard, which is significantly tougher, since you cannot carry special tiles over. I;ve been building my technique, so maybe it's time to go through on normal again. :)

I'm guessing the number 1 person got his score by consulting a dictionary or something (although I have heard if you pause too much you can't go on the high score board, but haven't confirmed this), or he's just that good - though I'm not sure how high a chance that could be with his attitude for typing "youallsuck" as his username. At least the dev was wise to implement a one week limit on the score board, so you have to consistently play to get on there. Too many high score boards keep a single series of scores making most players simply give up. Best way is to probably have an all time, but also a weekly, perhaps.

On that note, you can click on the game he played to see all the words he used. He had a ton of 7-8 letter words.

Possible third gen. It will probably utilise the newer processor, and there are already games being developed that take advantage of it. Eventually the old touch will be behind the curve. True, that can be said for any electronics, but why buy a device that may have less life left in it? Not to mention, iPod batteries are terrible after a year or two.

Any reccomendations in the action/shmup genre? Just got an iphone, about to check out Hero of Sparta but I'm also interested any 2d side scrolling shooters.

Heavy Mach
Space Deadbeef
Abigale

Any news on when the Worms update might come out? I want to get it but I am going to wait until the update hits, you never know they might drop the price.

I'll be getting my touch next week. I don't see anything in the OP and don't want to go through 10,000+ posts, so is there a post somewhere in this thread with general recommendations or does anyone want to throw some out for me? I'm open to anything, preferably cheap.

Some of my favorites

Flight Control
Dirt Moto
Word Fu
Baseball Slugger
Harbor Master
Star Hogs
Zombies & Me
Stone Loops
geoDefense
Space Invaders Infinity Gene
Star Defense
Mini Gore

Only a couple are over a dollar.

Just an FYI, Star Defense is now $1.99 (Launched at $5.99, dropped about 1.5 months later to $3.99, and two weeks later its now at $1.99). Played through the first three planets on Normal difficulty and its definitely worth it at that price.

Pull the trigger, friends!

Thanks. Can anyone else chime in? Here's my situation:

It's also worth mentioning that the OS is quite old so I'd have to pay to upgrade it.

iFlight Control is a blatant rip/graphics hack of Firemint's Flight Control!
A screenshot someone took of the apps description, posted by the developers here. :lol

Edit: Oops, that was taken from Toucharcade forums :)

I know sarcasm is hard to get across on the internet, but I was hoping the wink would help...

...there is no way I would buy iFlight

I agree with mrkgoo- you will get a lot for the extra $100. I would personally go for it. But it depends a lot on how much you value what you get and also how much you value the extra $100.

I kind of feel like playing some "Go". Anyone know which one is the best? I think I'm going to grab iGo, since it's on sale for .99 and is on Open Feint, but it's pretty tough to Google which one is the best. Or even to find all the choices in the app store.

This or This.

I got your sarcasm :D

The game is actually called iFighter Control in the store, but the screenshots call it iFlight. So messy, so schemey, so fail.

Zenonia is the coolest shit EVER. So fucking awesome. I think I'm set for games between it and Space Invaders Infinity Gene.

Defender Chronicles is on SALES for only $0.99!!!! If you have not yet picked this up shame on you! THis is an awesome mix of RPG and Tower Defense with a very unique perspective, and very well done hand drawn graphics.l

I put this one right up there with geodefense and Star Defense. Some argue this is the best TD on the iThing. itunes minilink: http://bit.ly/3tYhMm
