Best not to say stuff like that, because someone not in-the-know could see your post and think "Hmm, if that guy wants it, I should buy it myself."

A screenshot someone took of the apps description, posted by the developers here. :lol

Edit: Oops, that was taken from Toucharcade forums :)

How the hell do they get away with that, when stuff like Edge gets pulled? Even half the description text is ripped straight from Flight Control! Unbelievable.

Do you have ANY idea how dangerous this thread is?

I swear to GOD I spend at least $2.00 every single time I come in here.

There needs to be a prompt before you come into this thread that makes you swear you won't purchase anything for at least 20 minutes after you visit here.

radiantdreamer the iPhone dev process is not too bad. just hang out and follow tips from other guys (touchArcade dev area is pretty friendly) and people will generally give you a hand in getting on your way with that all-important 1st release (and then, once it's in submission, you just waiiit!)

interested to see what you are up to, do you guys have a WIP site or something?

Well, we're down to some specifics in terms of what Apple wants from us now - basically a GST/HST number cuz we're in Canada. We don't have anything up on our website just yet other than our cool logo. http://www.trickshotgames.com

I can't wait to waiiiit. :lol

Well, considering you owe every gaffer some money... buy more of our games! :D

It is guaranteed to get pulled.

I think you're up on the global list as #5 or something, which is pretty impressive. Last I checked I was the only person from the Netherlands who bought it.

No idea how the #1 person got their score.
Post number 10000. :D

fuck I love my iPhone 3gs. best pocket device I've ever owned. I've just been messing around with the free games on it. The paper flick into the bin game is a great time waster at red lights.

Time to read this thread extensively for some buyer's advice when I want to throw some money into the game space.

So I got Puzzle Quest a bit ago when it went on sale, and while it's a bit rougher around the edges than the PSP version, it is pretty swell.

That said it doesn't seem to save mid battle at all, which is a downer, and every once in a while I get a weird graphical glitch that forces me to hard quit it.

Anyone else encounter this? The damn cursor has a fit, along with a few other things.

Never had the graphical glitch problem that caused a crash. I once had a piece of corrupted art but when I rebooted it was gone. The game was known to have some bug issues though although honestly I never really ran into them.

No it plays "fine", just the cursor is a glitchy mess as it is in the top left of the screen. It's way worse in motion. But hard quitting "fixes" the issue. Ah well.

any great games out there for children? something along the lines for a 6 year old? something easy to learn and girly
My six-year-old daughter enjoys Cooking Mama, Paper Toss, Doodle Jump, I Dig It, Flick Fishing, Blowfish, Spongebob Tickler and Music Catch.

Has anyone here picked up Gomi?

It's getting rave reviews over at TA but I dunno, those guys seem to love pretty much anything.

I bought Rolando 1 way back in the day and I never really played much of it. The whole tilting and rolling and jumping platforming aspect while controlling multiple characters thing just ended up pissing me off.

Is Gomi better? The graphics look ridiculously terrible -- but maybe that's the charm as well?

I've been playing lots of Tradewinds 2, The Deep pinball, Pinball Fantasies, and my usual line-up of shmups like Tyrian, CS.One, SIIG, etc.

Best LIFE device ever.

A few games i've been playing.

RE4 - This game is good. Everything is just so much smoother than degeneration so if you liked that you should love this. Makes me want to go and play the console version again.

Doom Resurrection- Nice on rails game, awesome mechanics. If they want to make FPS games for iphone I think they should just follow this model and make it on rails, screw the dpad (though i am looking forward to playing that gameloft COD4 ripoff).

Space Invaders Infinity Gene- Funnily enough I hated the original retro space invaders but loved Extreme and am now loving Infinity Gene. The opening scene just blew me away and from there it just got better. Fun and addictive, the iphone equivalent of cocaine.

You guys broke me down. Bought SIIG. Only play it for few minutes. Good so far. Anyone else like me. Buying games, but not really playing them for long? Talking pass maybe 30 minutes.

For iFlight/er Control how much would they have to change other than name and description to be in the clear? I know game mechanics don't seem to be protected at all so I'm wondering if anything other than the name can actually be protected.

I'm in the market for an ipod touch, but my budget is very limited ($100-$125). I have an opportunity to get a fairly banged up 8gb (1st-gen) for $125. Is this a good deal? Can I play most games on it? Should I hold on to my money and put it towards a possible 3rd-generation unit in the future?
1st gen touch is the slowest device I think, slower than the original iPhone even. Wait/save up for the new one (likely) in September.

only a handful don't make it passed 30 minutes. talking shit like hero of sparta and uniwar..er...thats it actually. pirate bay and car mania are just dull variants on other games I have so never get a look in past the first play.

spent hours and hours on flight control, draw race, infinity gene, airport mania, creeps and the king of iphone games for me: geodefense - bargain of the decade at 59p.

Finally beat geoDefense! Love it. One of the best 'buzzes' you can get on the iphone, I get a bit of a rush when things get hectic. :D

------------------------------------------------

From the sounds of it not many people have tried out 'The Deep', the pinball game which is the follow up to the impressive but super flawed (stupid sides) Wild West Pinball.

Well after being really sceptical after losing my rag with WWP, I took the plunge and am really pleased with how its turned out.

I really like the new look of the table, feels a lot busier with a lot more to 'do'. The missions are great and add a nice sense of incentive, and I like the idea of having to power up your ball, though I'm not quite sure how this works.

There are a few places on the table which seem unlabelled or unexplained. The intro video says repair, refuel or rest your ship - what the hell does that mean?? and to be perfectly honest I have no idea how to power up my ship. But I guess finding things out as you go is how pinball works.

I really like the way it plays, its lost the ridiculous level of frustration WWP had, and its perfect for short bursts. I think this will be my go to game now for when I want a quick 3 minute blast.

Anyone else have it? What are your top scores? This is what its missing really, hiscore table for friends.

Thanks for the tips GAF. I've decided to hold on to my money and put it towards a future iPod Touch.

bought the Itrophies app, but I get error #5 something with the friendslist problem. And none of my thropies are shown. Checked that my id was portable. Anything I should do?

I'm still developing for the 2.x market right now. I wonder if it's a good idea to upgrade to 3.0 firmware since I can't use Pandora Box, Moe Memory and iDisk.

Usually a good indicator of new iPods is when the free iPod school sale ends (it's September 8th this year) it seems like they use that to help get rid of old iPods so you could probably expect new ones very quickly after that.

Hey GAF,

Back in December my buddy and I were among the casualties of the Midway Games layoffs. We were in shock and didn’t know what to do. While looking for new gigs we decided to keep busy by putting together a simple game for the iPhone. This kept us hopeful through some hard times, and I’m happy to say we’ve found new gigs since then.

The game got approved recently. It’s called Togglem. It’s a puzzle game where you marquee select Toggles of the same color / heart shape to switch them.

Check it out:

Has anyone tried Flyloop yet?

Since no one responded, I ended up taking a chance on this, which I rarely do.

One word: WOW

This game is insanely addictive, and a hell of a lot of fun. The point is to try to encircle butterflies of the same colour - the more in one loop, the exponentially higher the score.

Here's a video:

The only thing I'd change is to SLIGHTLY increase the responsiveness - but this might just be due to the screen cover I use. 9/10.

Edit: I forgot to mention the graphics are beautiful, the music is great, and the game is highly polished!

Edit again:

If you haven't purchased Star Defense, now is the time. On sale for $1.99. I've been having a lot of fun with that.
Got it when it first came out. Extremely fun, extremely polished, but also extremely repetitive. I know know all tower defense games are bound to be repetitive at some point, but that moment just set in far too quick for me with this game. I still appreciate the game, though, and might come back to it at a later date.

I've been having a lot of fun with Spy Bot Chronicles. Entertaining little platformer, and for the time being it's still 99c.
I HATED the Toy Bot games. Tilting to control in a platformer is not fun for me.

Games like Bionic Surfer is the ideal platformer/shooter for the App Store for me.

I stumbled on a very interesting puzzle game called Electric Box by Candystand.
93511_electric-box.jpg

It's an interesting chain-reaction puzzle game where you try to bring power from point A to point B using things like light bulbs, fans, water, laser beams, etc.

There's a flash version here http://www.candystand.com/play/electric-box
and a youtube video here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pE8CRVJS6LA

I don't have the App store link, but it should be pretty easy to find anyway. 99 cents for a limited time, apparently.

Something that I'd recommend. :)

Once again guys...Dungeon Scroll is awesome for a buck. I can't put it down! Gets damn hard though, I can't seem to get past the 9th dungeon.

I've been surprisingly content this week with my games and don't feel drawn to releases/my backlog. I guess right now I'm too busy wishing for Gameloft's Sandstorm and ngmoco's Live Fire.

Hah yeah, I not brought anything since star defense as I been playing all my games I already own, and still going strong.

I like The Deep. Far more than Wild West Pinball, which felt like a very accurate recreation of a boring, antique pinball table. Too easy to lose a ball, as well. The Deep has a much more dynamic table. I'm not even sure how to play much of what it offers. My high score is only 3,074,247.

My favorite real pinball machine was The Black Hole, which had another, deeper "mini-table" you could get the ball into, and you had to play looking down into it backwards and flipping the ball up. I'd love a pinball game app like that. I really liked the GBA Pinball of the Dead.

I also like Small Ball Pinball: Grand Canyon - free, though it's not in any way a simulation of real pinball table or physics.

Spy Bot Chronicles will be great for you then, it's completely changed from the Toy Bot games. The controls are similar to those in bionic surfer, and I like the aesthetic more.

I bought star defense, flight control, and zenonia. This is officially my favourite portable game console. The price for portable iPhone games is perfect.

Did anyone get Simon the Sorcerer? How does it play?

With all these adventures coming to the iPhone I'd like to see the Discworld games....

The Deep Pinball:

My impression after an hour or two: Nice new table layout that feels fresh and well known at the same time, but which is a little unbalanced.

+ nice graphics, seem even more smooth than WWP
+ a little easier than WWP, less side outs
+ missions
+ nice music, sound & speech
+ loads fast

- more speech in 'english'
- missions are simply hitting one special target/lane
- sunken ship is completely useless, not enough points to get there
- 3 ugly targets instead of one moving "Dirty Harry" - feels cheap
- like in the first one I seem to become worse the more I play. Got 14M in my second game and never reached that again.
- sometimes crashes after loading (3.0.1)

Overall it is more of the same, just different ;)

At $0.99 it is a steal of course. Those who hoped for perfection in this one will be disappointed, for me it still is lot of addictive fun.

I love the "missions" which for the most part seem to consist of "hit this random ramp/target/bumper to proceed". Gimmicky to be sure but you really never know until you see the little yellow arrow where you'll need to hit next. It really keeps you on your toes.
