On the deep it's annoying how it asks you to submit a name and score everytime, what's that about? I got my highest score so far on my 2nd go but when I saw the name input I figured the score was saved and I should be able to escape out of that, ended up losing my best score and trying to get it back ever since! Doesn't save it locally I guess.

I hate how some checkpoints are almost impossible to get! I need a strategy guide or something. Does anyone know a good resource? If not we should pool our findings.

Am I right in thinking the 3 lights in the middle, attached to the bouncy thing represent power or speed boost which is guaranteed to open the treasure?

What do the docks do? They increase something but I've no idea what.

What's the best way to get the checkpoint by the whirlpool? That seems flatout impossible. What do those lights do?

How do you restore the sides? Haven't managed it once yet!

Dammit. Everytime I come in here I buy another game.

I should play the ones I got. I saw electric box looked neat. I thought, this is going to get me - I'll just play the free flash version! (but just a quick go, because I gotta go out).

2 hours later, I'm downloading the iPhone version.

Just played the flash version of Electric Box. Four levels is all it took for me to realise that it's amazing, a wonderful variant on the Pipe Mania format, with a touch of Incredible Machine puzzling inside it, and I'm now going to buy it on the iPhone. Assuming that the controls etc work brilliantly, there's no reason that this won't be a must-buy.

Spy Bot Chronicles will be great for you then, it's completely changed from the Toy Bot games. The controls are similar to those in bionic surfer, and I like the aesthetic more.
Well, I hate you then, because you just sold me. :lol

Not quite what it sounds like. I've seen a number of people have made iPhone gaming grips/holders, and this inspired me to try making one for myself. It ocurred to me that an existing console control pad would be an ideal starting point. I happened to have an old, broken Xbox 360 pad lying around, so the project started.

Since no one responded, I ended up taking a chance on this, which I rarely do.

One word: WOW

This game is insanely addictive, and a hell of a lot of fun. The point is to try to encircle butterflies of the same colour - the more in one loop, the exponentially higher the score.

Here's a video:

The only thing I'd change is to SLIGHTLY increase the responsiveness - but this might just be due to the screen cover I use. 9/10.

Edit: I forgot to mention the graphics are beautiful, the music is great, and the game is highly polished!

Edit again:

That looks way better in motion.

While checking out your youtube link I stumbled on this game Aquazzle which is actuall pretty good It's a match 3 puzzle with some platforming elements. In a way it kind of reminds me of Penguin Land.

So, Snood is coming to the iPhone. What's changed in the last 13 years since it was released? Well, not much. Oh, but there IS a new version with redrawn characters...

..and they look absolutely repugnant.

I thought about making a game like electric box. It crossed my mind that some kind of electrical physics simulation would be cool. looks like I'm too late!

someone should make a game like those adverts i.e. fan blows a ship floating on water which pushes a ball down a slide which knocks over a row of books like dominoes and so on and so on.

I played electric box flash version until the last level and it did my head in by then. I couldnt leave until I'd finished it so I reckon it'd be a dangerous purchase for me. I'd end up getting really pissed off with a level I couldnt do.

Originality is not everything, execution is a bigger part.

That's a good point! At 0.99, I think every iPhone should have this :D

I've been playing Electric Box. It's nice enough, but while the first 15 levels seem like a decent build up, the next few feel like fan made ones or something (they might be - I think they're a level pack).

That's very very cool. There's one problem with it though... it covers a speaker, or headphone jack. Some games have their game turned one way, and some the other way. Since all games are mono on the left speaker, it makes more sense for developers to turn the phone clockwise so the speaker isn't covered by the player's palm (or in this case, the controller grip) I think this should be an Apple standard.

It's not too late. There isn't any "physics" involved in this game.

I'm not certain, but does the flash version only go up to 14 levels? If that's the case, then you could be right.

How does Castle of Magic compare to Spy Bot Chronicles? I just bought Spy Bot and am loving it, would Castle of Magic be a step up from Spy Bot or do you all consider Spy Bot to be better?

Darn it, I had another giant impressions writeup ready to post, but then I lost it. I guess I'll just ask, how can I get better battery life when using my iPod Touch for gaming? During a car ride yesterday, it didn't even last 2 hours.

what game?

Turn the screen down to 30% brightness and play it muted, you get an extra 20 minutes or so.

Also if you really want to be anal, turn off wifi.

I've just heard the voiced version of Simon the sorcerer has just been realesed on iPhone.

Anyone nabbed it? If it's ok I'll defo getting a copy.

I don't always mute, 30% brightness is a good tip. Also, turning off wifi, bluetooth and putting it onto airplane mode will give your battery a boost.

Background apps that never close like the official Apple Apps like Safari kill the battery.

iStat is quite handing for killing off all running processes and freeing up memory

I've seen people rave about iStat on Twitter. How does it work, exactly? It often feels like my 3G is sluggish.

The absolute best resolution to this is to have a car charger. Seriously.

All your battery life maximising will net you a small amount, but a charger will have you going for, well, more or less indefinitely (Given that your car is running).

In my experience, Safari doesn't really continue to run in the background chewing up battery life - more so resources (such as memory).

iStat serves a few purposes:

1) Shows stats running on your iPhone, including memory, ip addresses (wifi and edge), free space, uptime, processor load, ID, and MAC address (and allows you to email it to yourself).
2) Allows you to kill processes, and generally free up RAM, thus saving you a reboot.
3) If you install a small iStat server kernel on your mac (I'm not sure about other platforms), it allows you to remotely monitor that mac on the same wifi network. If you already use iStat Pro Widget, then you'll know what this is about. I have yet to find a great use for this, as if I'm anywhere near my network, I can just monitor on that. I guess I could do something like have a huge torrent, or compiling session, but monitor it from a deck chair outside if I really wanted to.
4)Has a pingtime app.
5) has a traceroute app.

They main purpose for me is to see f I need to free memory.

A big draw for me is that iStat is made by Bjango - and they make one of my favourite apps, Darkness.

I found the biggest drain to my battery was having any push activated.

In other news, I just finished Electric box -pretty neat for 99c. Levels 16 through to about 45 are pretty uninteresting. I wish they had kept the editor in, and include a level sharing mode.

It just makes me think games like this, fixit, Heck, even Chu Chu rocket and other tile based games are a perfect match for the iPhone.

small semi gaming related update:

get the lite version if you can't decide if to get it.
I don't see a lite version. I've been wanting to check it out though. Price drop is cool.

EDIT: Not available in the US Store I guess... That sucks.

I'm tempted, although I don't think there is a lite version available (I couldn't see it on the store).

iStat looks great if yo have a Mac or want to do ping tricks, but MemoryInfo is a good one too if you just want it to free as much memory as soon as you open the app.

I have it - it's an excellent port made by the same people who ported Flight of the Amazon Queen.

You have two control options - one that is like Monkey Island SE and functions like the screen is the touchpad, and the other one where it lets you directly point on things on the screen, all the while having a rectangle floating above your finger, showing what is right beneath it.

Yeah this is right. As long as you're playing games you're eating the battery pretty quickly regardless of whatever small options you can turn off.

Another option is a battery pack of some sort. I got this one from Costco a while back, a bit clunky but it's one of the higher capacity ones (5000mah) I've seen (at any price). There are fancier iPod/iPhone specific ones that double as cases or ones that are smaller and plug directly into the dock port, but they tend to be pretty low capacity and cost a lot.

just get one of these:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10831&cs_id=1083105&p_id=5480&seq=1&format=2

Incredibly cheap, more than doubles the battery life, and while it's not the smallest thing, it's perfect for a car ride where you don't need to carry it around with you in your pocket all the time.

Wow, I can't wait to get my iPhone 3GS. Actually I might need to wait and save some money for apps haha.

Also, iPhone owners, what have you done for insurance for the device? I was thinking about going through Square Trade, but I'm not sure.
