slide your finger horizontal on the screen.

Haha, yeah, apparently something went wrong when I downloaded it because the game was not detecting sliding. Had to delete it and reinstall.

Is no one else having WiFi issues with the 3.0 firmware? I finally made the jump on my 2g Touch and the next day reverted back to 2.2.1 due to horrific coverage issues. Everywhere in our apartment my wife and my own iPods would always get full bars and speed at all times with 2.2.1, once 3.0 was in place I would get one bar or no connection at all...Even 2 ft from the router.

What the hell.

Damn shame since I was anxious to try some 3.0 exclusive apps but...I guess I'll hope it gets fixed in 3.1.

I think so. Nothing drastic so far, but I've been 5 feet from the router and have had only 2 bars since the update.

This is on a 3G.

I also downgraded back to 2.2.1, waiting for a fix. My wi-fi connection will drop after 10 minutes of use and the range was reduced to less than half. Also the downloading speeds became super slow with 3.0, sometimes waiting around 5 minutes or more to download 10-15MB. Now that I've downgraded to 2.2.1, all the problems are fixed.

Contact Apple's support site. It seems to be an issue with 3.0 and some 2g Touches. Mine had the same problem. One day totally randomly why I was sitting in class the WiFi went dead, came home it would only work if I was 4ft from my router.

I contacted Apple and they gave me a brand new Touch free of charge.

Anyone hear anything about Madden iPhone yet? There are supposed to be some screenshots out this week.

Just this:

Madden 10 for iPhone was reportedly pushed back to September. We still have yet to hear any details on the game, its control method, or anything else outside of knowing that it's eventually coming to the App Store. When in September it's going to be released is currently anyone's guess.

I'm anxiously awaiting any kind of media on this game as well.

Some recent games that have gotten released.

Dragon Portals. From the makers of the excellent Azkend a new match 3 game.

Good luck with the Pre sales!

How much longer til it arrives on iPhone? And IIRC, is the game similar to Poker Smash? Is it a poker game + a puzzler? In any event, your post earlier has me hyped for it. Online play sounds cool.

Sidenote - Im' pretty sure SimCity is a game I would play the hell out of, but I find with the iPhone I am more interested in original games. Im' trying to 'generally' avoid games I have already experienced elsewhere. If it drops to $2, i'll bite...

It'll be out... when it's out, on the iPhone. We submitted it weeks ago, so it should be soon, we hope, but you never know. Could be any time. I'll definitely post here once it goes live. It's crazy, though. On the Pre, there's nothing else substantial to play, so we're getting a lotta new users... :D

Going to play more Gangstar now before I sleep, will give a review of it tomorrow for anyone on the edge or wondering what it's like over an hour into the game.

Just wondering - are iPhone users able to play with Pre users or are the servers separate?

"We played against each other there in Ad Hoc, he on the iPhone and I on a Palm Pre, which made me smile - and I told him so. Something that's been especially disheartening this generation is that fiefdoms have become even more entrenched, even though there are many market players with power spilling o'er the ramparts." - Tycho, Penny Arcade

Hmmm...word ace - like combination word game and texas hold'em. But does the deck have limited cards so that you can calculate probabilities?

That is pretty damn cool.

Interesting...What did you have to do in order to do this? What was required? At the most I could probably print out the Amazon receipt as proof and since I got it back in February it should be under warranty. heh. I have an Apple store about 25 miles from here, wonder if they would swap it out. It's obviously a software issue though from what I can see...

I was reading that supposedly turning Bluetooth off remedies the situation (Unlocked in the 2G with 3.0) but I am already happily back on 2.2.1 to bother updating again to see if that fixes it or not.

Impressions on games I've recently downloaded:

• Parachute Panic Lite: Reminds me of a game on my old Mac called Stunt Copter, except in this game you control the parachutists instead of the helicopters.
• Civilization Revolution Lite: Wow, the amount of information being thrown at me overwhelms me. There's so much going on, and yet it kept me wanting to play to the end.
• Missiles: Like Press The Button, except with two buttons instead of one and graphics.
• Crack the Code Free: I know this game as Mastermind. Easy mode is easy.
• Ancient Frog Lite: Kind of reminds me of what I've seen of Rock & Roll Climber videos. The graphics are pretty good. Sometimes I think one of the frog's feet reaches a foothold, and then it doesn't.
• Perfect Balance Harmony Lite: Like Topple, except you can only move one piece at a time, only move it once, and can't rotate them as freely. I like how the blocks are not covered by your finger when you move them.
• Perfect Balance Inferno Lite: I can't really see much of a difference from the other version of Perfect Balance to justify making a separate version.
• PathPix Lite: Has the aesthetics of Drop7, the logic of Minesweeper, the end result of Art Style: PiCTOBiTS, and something about the gameplay that reminds of Art Style: Boxlife. I like the quotes that go with the pictures. I wish I hadn't blasted through this Lite version so quickly.
• Stich em Words Lite: Cool little rebus/anagram game. The pictures aren't always what I expect them to be.
• WordJong Lite: Wait, so I have to use all the letters to finish the level? Argh!
• Moxie: Wish the instruction video had text for those who can't listen to the sound. Anyway, it was kind of fun once I figured it out.

Also, is there any way to rearrange my apps besides manually dragging them around? I remember when I restored my iPod Touch, my apps became alphabetized. Can I do that without having to restore?

I just contacted the Apple support site, told them the problem, and gave them my serial number and address. They emailed me back saying I would need to send it in, they overnighted a box, and I sent it in.

I think b/c it's all tied into iTunes they can tell on the backend how long a specific iPod has been used.

But of course an Apple Store would probably be faster. I've heard they can do service requests in-store.

Asphalt 5 is looking pretty nice.
Ferrari looked decent but ran like shit. Hopefully this is better, but I'm guessing it'll suck on anything other than a 3GS or 2nd gen touch. I'll probably just wait till it hits 99 cents like their other games (got that damn Ferrari game at $10 way back).

And that first shot looks antialiased. Bullshot? According to this random internet guy you can't do it on the iPhone OS:
What I mean is that we are not allowed to access the real framebuffer ( for instance use eglSwapBuffers or eglSwapInterval) because for whatever reason Apple has decided that they want to have complete control over what gets shown on the screen and thus a typical OpenGL app on the iPhone is just another client rendering to a texture, which then Apple system code uses to composite the final image ( presumably this was done to allow them to popup notifications and other OS controlled output even on top of full screen OpenGL app)
The downside of this approach is that since the gpu ( both MBX and SGX) doesn’t support antialiasing when rendering to a texture, we are stuck with this, even though both gpus do support multisampling just fine ( and at minimal cost) when rendering to the framebuffer.

BTW… This is just my guess on what is going on and why Apple is insisting that antialiasing is not supported even though hardware supports it.

For those who bought amatuer surgeon long ago, tell me if it's as awesome as that demo makes it seem.

My main issues were that my fingers were getting in the way of what I wanted to do most of the time, but after retrying it, it clicked so much more. Is this game a favorite of you guys, or did it get old fast?

Yes. We're gonna add the letter distribution into the help in an update, but for now, actually - I'll go post it on the blog. Should be up in a couple minutes at www.selfawaregames.com/blog

Thanks!

iPhone 3GS screens I assume cuz that looks fucking wicked. I'm going to assume that the new iPod Touch is the same hardware as 3GS but without GPS, Phone etc. Just like the iPod Touch was the same as 3G. Because of the lack of phone features I'll also assume it will be clocked a little bit higher.

That would totally rock :)

Maybe Plants vs Zombies will get me back into playing games on my iPod. I never finished the pc version because these days I just don't have the time to sit down and play a game at my computer. Can't wait for it!

Playing Gangstar just makes me wish Rockstar would put some iPhone content out. Maybe even just a port of Chinatown Wars.

It seems like a carbon copy of the GTA template, nothing more really. Technically impressive but ultimately a bit dull.

I'm hoping that since Gangstar released that we see a drop in price soon for Terminator Salvation since I love the demo so much, but dont really wanna pay $5 for a movie game.

Nail on the head, while it is fun to play in bursts it feels like doing short missions is all you basicly do. If you get the police after you all of a sudden there is a police car down every road which is a bit overkill.

I'm about 2+ hours in now and only just left the yellow area of the map mission wise, and the map is pretty big so the game is long. Worth £4.

Touch KO is pretty bland. I think for the platform, a Punch-Out style boxing game would be a lot more enjoyable. This feels like a very slow paced PS1 port. Oh well, only a buck.

Also, the game has practically zero strategy, a hamster walking around on the iPhone screen could knock out the first five opponents.

Go and download the game or Trial right now. Severely overlooked, fantastic puzzle game.

It really is an awesome game, I got a code for the XBLA version when it released and enjoyed it quite a bit. Haven't tried the iPhone version yet, but imagine it works really well.
