got to ask - at what point does the copyright infringement hammer start getting slammed down ?

i mean - i'm enjoying picking up straight up clones of games and all that - but as the iphone grows surely someone somewhere is going to start some hot litigation?

It's always been like this.
Gameplay concepts are not really things that are patented often.

However, if you infringe on brand recognition then that's something all together different. See Capcom vs Data East

I got a perfect score on almost every level in the original geoDefense, but I've never played this type of TD game. I just don't know how to approach these open path games.
ahh. So its just a lot more open now. I tend to not like this type of TD but Swarm is great or least what I've played. Its just about using the space effectively by using the green tower to make a path. Then you use the same techniques you did before. Slowing them down in key spots, lasers on straights, thumpers on corners, missiles in the middle/multiple intersections ect ect.

Katamari is on sale for $2.99. Is it worth it? Did they ever iron out all those kinks people complained about (framerate issues, freezing/crashing, etc)?

I don't think the issues were ironed out but I had a really good time with that game.

I'd be interested to know this, I've been waiting for it to drop for months

Yeah, it's a really bad situation. 2 guys make something and charge 4.99 for it, <insert larger development team/company here> comes in and sells a copied game for less, and makes more money. It's probably doing a lot more harm than people realize. I know a few people who refuse to turn some of their ideas into iPhone apps (even though it's a pretty great delivery platform for said ideas) because they think the idea will get jacked (and lets be honest, it probably will). Sorta sucks, but that's what you get when you make it so easy to churn out applications into a store that is like crack to a lot of people.

I just recieved an email from Apple about the new touch prices, the 8gig 2G Touch is now £149, so that's £20 down from the old RRP. Most stores also knock off £10 so you should be able to easily find one now for a good price brand new, worth it IMO. The 8 and 16gig models do not have the VR chipset but they do have a noticeable MHZ boost over the iPhone 3g.
They all have ARM/PowerVR chipsets, the difference is the new ones (16/32GB 3rd gen) have next generation parts on top of the plain mhz boost. They beat the hell out of the old hardware.

I don't think it was fixed...unless you have a iPhone 3GS/3rd gen touch. It apparently runs ~30fps on that hardware. Worst case if you have old hardware and find it unplayable you can go back to it once you get a new device.

Anyone else recieve their iTunes gift card from definetheshift.com --- like in the last 3-4 days? I'm still waiting on mine after having done my survey on August 28. :-\

Runs butter smooth on a 3GS but its still practically unplayable on anything else.

Hmmm i want to buy but I want to hear impressions first. Also if there are any planned updates.

No idea about planned updates or anything of that sort, but I took the plunge on this and it is very very fun. It's very fast paced and yeah, it's a shameless clone of super stardust, but it's still very fun.

It has the best dual-stick control set up i've used on the platform thus far. Responds perfectly. My deaths always come from a slow reaction time rather than borked controls. :lol

Possibly the coolest feature is the automatic pause though. I play ipod games a lot during downtime at work and my boss likes to occasionally sneak around the corner. If you take both fingers off the screen, the game automatically pauses and will un-pause when you put your fingers back on the sticks.

The game runs super smooth on a 2g touch, so i'm sure that it would run like bliss on a 3GS. It has global leaderboards as well, and it's only $1.99, which is a good price.

It doesn't really matter. Rolando 2 is the better game.
Nah, first Rolando is better cos much bigger game than second one. So wait longer for 2 to more cut price to make it more worthily.

I bought Rolando when it first came out. How cheap did it get? I'll grab R2 at like $1 or $2.

The style is awesome, and it's pretty epic. Gameplay though, the tilt thing is really terrible.

Fuck yeah! I got it already at full price when I got my touch initially, but Lilt Line is on sale
for .99 :)

On top of that it got updated today as well with some new levels/music :)

Still one of my faves even if I dont play it enough to prove it.

Awesome, the style was interesting but I've had too many games going to warrant paying full price for it. 99c is excellent.

i know this is a strange complaint, but did anyone else notice how bad the geodefense swarm icon is? i know they can do better than that.

as for the game itself, since it's pathless but you place towers all over, does your placement eventually create a 'path'? or can the enemies move however without regard to your placement (pass through them)?

YOu create the path, towers block the creeps.

Ans yes, the icon is pretty crap. Not that the Geo Defense is all that great either.

i really like the first game's icon. they put like less than zero thought into the new one :,(

Any recommendations for pinball games? My wife played Williams pinball on Wii to death, so I am looking for a game for her ipod touch. I see that pinball dreams is available, which is very tempting as I loved that game on the amiga (although fantasies and illusions were much better), however I was looking for something a little more modern.

I wouldn't say I like the first app's icon, I'd say I put up with it.

Some of my favourite icons on my phone right now are:

The Phone, Message, iPod and Settings.
Beejive, PhotoBuddy, Classics, Convert, Air Sharing, Remote.
NeoGaf, Wikipanion, FlickR.
Edge, Flight Control, Lion Pride, The Creeps!, Real Racing.
Tetris, Word Ace Pro, Deep Green, Solebon.
Archon, Frenzic.

The Deep Pinball

wow just played the first endless map on geodefense swarm and my god that was incredible! I'm a little annoyed cos I ended up filling all the space and powering everything up but left my rockets on 6 (7 is max) cos 6 seems more effective.

so I get curious and start levelling all my rockets to 7 thinking maybe the superior range will help. I get overrun in 2 waves :( got to wave 103 which I'm not too unhappy with, first go and all.

but man definitely the most intense and visceral experience on the iphone, even infinity gene isn't on that level. only 59p to boot, that guy is a hero.

it has just first price cut to $5 I think (might be worth but still not bigger than R1). Anyway first Rolando is now under $3. So R2 should reach there in few months or R3 coming up.

I agree, which is why I haven't jumped in yet. I've read a few reader reviews that claim it becomes pretty challenging which would balance the boredom, but if it becomes frustrating than that's no fun either. Cool concept though, just not in need of a new game right now. On my Pandora list it goes.

Man this game is sick. It seems like it lacks polish with its use of gradients, but it ends up feeling the right kind of grimey for the way it plays and sounds.

I'm stuck on seesaw but enjoying the rhythm/zen of redoing it.

Would someone plllease help me, this is reallly pissing me off, I just got a new Ipod touch and I was in settings and went to some mode where everything I touch it says what it is and just isn't working right. I have to double tap everything and I can't back in settings to turn it off! How in the fuck do you get out of this mode!??

Go to Settings, General, Accessibility. Look for an option called "Voice Over". You can also supposedly do it from iTunes.
