My own very early impression on Dungeon Hunter (about 20 minutes in), it's very impressive. There seems to be tons of skills to unlock, and I've entered the first town and the world map looks like it will be quite extensive.

The production values are ridiculous, and it feels like a very well made title so far. I think there are even different storylines for the three different character classes, but I'm not sure yet.

If you're eagerly awaiting impressions I'd just suggest getting it now, it certainly doesn't suck. I can't tell how long it's going to be, but it seems like it'll be pretty substantial.

Duke Nukem controls are still fucking terrible.

What changed?

You can now slide your finger across the virtual joysticks instead of tapping on them. But the sensitivity is still way off. Try moving forward for example and you're more likely to strife to the left or right really slowly.

Also, the framerate is still inconsistent.

Such a shame they can't solve the controller issues, this game deserves better.

Dungeon Hunter now out, priced $6.99.

It's a Diablo-esque clone from Gameloft. Looks interesting.

I think thats what you get with a full360 analogue stick, that is a bit small, and no feedback (visual or otherwise) to where you're pushing.

This is where you switch to the digital controls.

The release of this game is a bit of a debacle, and there are supposedly a lot of other bugs, but I think the controls thing is blown way out of proportion. Yes there was a pretty bad bug before (to be honest, I haven't had much of a play since they 'fixed' it), but if they fixed the sticking bug, it should be pretty playable, and it's so configurable.

Would someone plllease help me, this is reallly pissing me off, I just got a new Ipod touch and I was in settings and went to some mode where everything I touch it says what it is and just isn't working right. I have to double tap everything and I can't back in settings to turn it off! How in the fuck do you get out of this mode!??

Triple clicking the Home button (if you're on 3.1) should bring up the accessibility options as well.

Squareball looks right up my alley, grabbing it now.

So far I'm loving Dungeon Hunter. The game feels and plays very well with great controls. Yeah, it's a shameless rip-off, but it's a fantastic Diablo clone that you can have with you anywhere. The game runs very smooth on my 2G touch, and i'm sure on a 3GS the load times and frame rate would be even better. And like it was said above, the skill trees are very long and there's a lot of flexibility there to play how you want. So far I've only played around with the warrior, I'll approach the mage and the rogue when i'm more familiar with the game.

Oh, and it's far better than Underworlds. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but this feels much more fleshed out. That's Gameloft for you though, not much ingenuity for new games, but a hell of a lot of production value and polish.

I still find it amazing how Gameloft can release so many fantastic "clones" in such a short time.

You know how each iteration of a console brings with it loads of Chinese knock offs? Gameloft are like those Chinese manufacturers - but really good :lol

4000 staff.

Seriously.

Yeah, Gameloft is great. So far they have:

Hero of Sparta - God of War
Castle of Magic - New Super Mario Bros.
Gangstar: West Coast Hustle - GTA III
Modern Combat - COD4: Modern Warfare
Blades of Fury - Soul Calibur
Shrek Kart - Mario Kart
Dungeon Hunter - Diablo
Nova - Halo

Did I get them all? Let's hope after they run out of games to copy they start thinking about some original concepts. They sure got the resources to deliver.

Tempted, so tempted. I still not beaten that other diablo clone yet but this looks oh so sweet.

I'm going to get it right now, I wasn't aware it was already out. :)

You know what bothers me though? In Italian there are a few comments that imply the persons have been playing it for a long time (..I've never turned on the pc since I've bought this.., ..After getting all the right upgrades, your character will become unstoppable..).
This really stood out to me, I don't know, didn't the game came out just a couple of days ago?

People must be playing non-stop, perhaps I'm just jealous.

Well they're doing us users a great service in my opinion. They're filling the library with titles that indie devs like me wouldn't be able to do.

Wow, squareball's OST is fucking awesome. Anyone know if it's available somewhere?

I don't mind them copying ideas. I think it's cool that we're able to get clone-like games on the iPhone. Nobody else is doing it, anyway.

Oh, and you forgot Hotshots Golf, er I mean Let's Golf.

are the gameloft games generally good? Castle of magic and blades of fury sound fun, but the hero of sparta demo I played was meh

^They're technically beyond 90% of what's out there, albeit generic in every way. But not a bad generic. You can just tell that their games are molded after something very specific from the console realm more times than not.

Man, Dungeon Hunter is fucking great, much better than Underworld at this point. Controls well, classes have large and well defined skill trees, loot is visible on your character upon equipping, animation is smooth and the map looks pretty large. Quests seems to take you back into previously defeated levels as well, so it looks decently long. Good monster design too.

Sounds great, visible changes to your character is always a huge plus to me in these games.

I think of them as "safe bets". They may not be a gem or something like GeoDefense or Zen Bound or Rolando, but you know you're almost certainly going to get a decent time-killer that looks nice and has good production values for your ~$5. This doesn't mean I buy them (I don't play portables enough and my DS/PSP get used about 6 times/year), but if you don't have a console and just lug around the iPhone, then you're set.

That said I got Hero of Sparta for a buck and haven't beaten it because I find it pretty boring. But Castle of Magic is better.

Until the big name developers start putting versions of their games on the iphone, Gameloft is your best bet for console style games. They have some of the most well polished games on the app store as it stands, and they seem to know what they're doing with the virtual controls as well (except castle of magic, the controls made me personally not like that game).

Dungeon Hunter is a prime example of the controls. The virtual stick is spot on and very responsive.

I loved Konami Krazy Racing on the GBA, now i read about Krazy Kart Racing on the Touch... is it good fun?
Any impressions from you guys?

Anyone try Dungeon Hunter on an iPhone 3G? Looks awfully smooth in that video posted above, but I have a feeling it might not like my 3G nearly as much.

It's a little stuttery when it first loads up, but it's fine after that. It's much smoother than, say, Hero of Sparta on a 3g. Just make sure to reboot before playing it etc.

Looks like I'm a bit late. :'(

Ah cool. Might give it a go when it re-appears down the line. Thanks.
