hey guys and girls, my best friend got an i-pod touch for his birthday, and i want to give him a couple of the best games available.. but i don't know what's out there and what i should get him.. (don't have one myself unfortunately..)

What are the top 3 must have i-pod/ i-phone touch games?
He likes anything, as long as it's good.

thanx for the help!!
Real Racing is quite amazing, runs well and plays fantastic.
OMG Pirates! is a great portable brawler with a unique style, also has lot's of "Arrr!"
I would also think one of the Rolando games as they are good platformers with lot's of content.

Newp, that's a "sale" price. $2 lower than I've ever seen it. Bought.

Also, has anyone seen any more news on that G1 Transformers game that looked like an Advance Wars clone? I WANT!

what what what? G1 Transformers? I would like more information on that also :D

I was ready to pull the trigger on Ridge Racer, but I figured I would check here first. It sounds like it's a good thing I did, as it sounds really disappointing.

Nice one :)
This is our first game and it's really tough to get feedback, so appreciate any comments you can give!

Bombardiers Guild. We've been getting positive feedback from everyone that tries it so give it a go and let me know what you think :)

Can't buy. It's being modified according to AppStore...

Skies of Glory is out. It's a WWII dogfighting game, with online and local multi. Seems a bit like those "Heroes over" WWII flight games. It's free - but, oh man, are they ever going to hammer you with DLC. It costs around $29 to download all the mission packs and extra planes.

Graphics looks great, though:

here's the itunes link:

FAST was and is a great online dog fighting game and since this is made by the same devs it should prove to be great fun in multiplayer. I won't buy all the dlc though that's a bit overkill but if I find this as fun as FAST was I may buy a plane or something to support their efforts.

I absolutely LOVE Rock Band. I wish it had more songs, but it's really fun anyway.
I'd like some suggestions too, btw.

Oh, and about DDR should I buy S or S+ if I only want to get one of them?

If I remember S was the main version and S + was the demo 'lite' version. Then one day, Konami made S + a DLC version. S is the better deal as you get loads of songs for one price, but S+ has possibly more songs and capability to get more, but more expensive.

I have S. And it's a good game.

Because of the new Appstore design, I got tricked into buying S+. Thought it was some kind of addon to S, but now it's only a 3 Song version and I do not intend to spend money for the DLC.

Yeah, I'm all for more options, but I don't much like the DLC model of doing things. It's way too easy for companies to nickel and dime people. You can argue that it's great for the option to only buy half a game, I suppose.

Is that using a TV out on the phone? I didn't even think to use that with games!

How do you find it looks?
Heh, Xbox Live camera pointed at the phone actually. Notice my finger pressing the replay button right at the start of the video.

Wow, Konami has everything for €0.79!
Is Silent Hill total shit? How is Silent Scope?
I just bought MGS Touch and I'm seriously tempted by some DDR (should I buy S or S+?).
Silent Scope runs like shit on my 3G, if it ran well (which it may on a 3GS/3rd gen touch) it'd be worth a shot I guess. Depends if you like the series too. I'm a bit of a sucker for it and even enjoyed the DC (w/controller) and GBA ports.

DDR S is pretty great, S+ is a DLC heavy version as mentioned. The annoying thing with S+ is that (last I looked, which was a while ago) all the song packs had a song that was already in S, so instead of say 3 new songs for $1, it's really 2 new and 1 old for me. Of course I got S+ back when it was S Lite and was free so I paid nothing for it when the update came out.

Some screen grabs from RR, while the car's can look fugly in places they have a strange feeling to them, like they used a few too many polygons in areas where textures would work a lot better, the windows don't help either.
The first PSP one had similar fugly textures (not sure about the sequel), seemed like I was the only one that railed on it at the time. They used high quality textures for the car previews though (which is why people may not have noticed as much), do they do the same thing here?

Well you could just give him a $50 gift card or something (unless you're in Canada). He can then get 5 expensive $10 games or up to 50 $1 ones! And an infinite amount of free ones!

If you do really want to gift him something, well there's a shitload of stuff. I'm pretty much only playing Pac-Man CE right now with some doses of Canabalt. Most of the Konami stuff is pretty good (DDR S, MGS, Power Pros) and on sale!, Space Invaders Infinity Gene, Chess With Friends and Words With Friends, Unify and Beat It! are pretty unique in the puzzle and music genres respectively, Mr. AahH!!, Flight Control and a bunch of others are nice for simple short games...I could go on.

Maybe just get him a few higher end ones that he might be apprehensive to get (cause price) and a gift card on top to get whatever else for himself.

Realistically they should just drop it to free. When it first came out the store still had the "must be pay to have DLC" rule so 99 cents made sense, but that hasn't been the case for a while now.

Also a reason some devs are moving to free/cheap + DLC is piracy, can't pirate the DLC from what I've heard (for now at least). Kinda surprised more devs haven't just gone the free+DLC thing whole hog like the Skies of Glory guys. Not even a base version (like what Namco has) available to pirate then.

i got a konami game for 99¢, it's called tomena sanner and it's really insane. you could almost call it a funny version of canabalt. you're a japanese businessman who's late i guess, and constantly running forward but streetpunks, giraffes, easter island heads, martians are always in your way. you tap in rhythm to dodge everything, and the animations that happen if you dodge perfectly are AWESOME! you do kung fu moves, breakdance, moonwalk, it's really well done. some of the obstacles actually get in a big line and it turns into a big dance set-piece. it gives me a lot of happiness for so cheap.

This looks right up my alley (oo-er) but it isn't on the Aussie app store yet.

This is either a glitch or set on purpose but SeeD 1 - Rise of Darnkess is currently FREE, full RPG like zenonia (with some DLC extras which are optional) but the usual price was something like £2.99 so grab it while you can.

*edit* going by AppShopper it's dropped to free after 8 days, and to think I nearly brought this a few days back...
They turned it into a "free with tons of DLC" thing today. Really lame..I bought it last week.

I'm really interested in seeing how Nova turns out. I don't even like Halo that much. =P

By the way, I'm at a boring concert for the next two hours. Can someone recommend a game to get me through the next few hours? (Already beat Angry Birds)

I kind of want to get NOVA, but I have a feeling it'll run like shit on my 3G.

You probably want to wait for impressions, but I'd bet it runs pretty well on a 3g. Gameloft tends to pull off pretty decent results, even on the older hardware.

This is excellent. A heavy dose of lovable Japanese nonsense in a simple, fun game. Best game I've bought on my iPhone in at least five hours.

ugggh ... I went back through the thread and apparently I've anticipating an app that isn't actaully coming (AFAIK).

I misread an earlier post where someone asked why this game wasn't being ported by someone. :( Sorry for the inadvertant tease.

i started playing that free seed game....it's definitely zenonia without the charm and production value, but i do like the touch controls for the inventory.

when is zenonia 2 coming to iphone again? i'd so much rather be playing that.

Edge was updated in NZ today. This is good news, as they had made a new version 'Edgy', and removed the old version. But it's back. And it's called 'Edge'. Not Edgy. Not Edge by Mobigame. Edge.

Of course, Tim's trademark doesn't extend to New Zealand, so who knows.

So, it looks like there's enough demand to do another run - it'll take a little bit, but one of the interesting things is that while we can't do it on the iPhone (Apple's too restrictive about what you can buy from within an app), on the Pre, we're gonna sell the decks (and probably shirts, too) directly through the game. So, from what amounts to the in-app purchase menu, you'll be able to buy decks.

If it weren't for that, we'd probably wait a couple months before doing another print. It'll still take a little bit of time - we've got some minor changes we want to make for the second run of the deck, and we'd need to get paper boxes made (the plastic ones we got for the first run were cool, but too expensive to be practical, and some of 'em got crushed in transit because they're too tall) - but it does look like a second run is a go, which is pretty cool.

NOVA is out in the US now.

It plays surprisingly well for an FPS on the iPhone. I never really liked any of the previous ones I tried (Eliminate, that Modern Warfare game, and a few others), but this really works well.

Great production values, but it's very much a Halo ripoff.

NOVA is pretty awesome so far. The single player is fun, but the Cortana ripoff AI chick is totally lame and the voiceovers aren't very well done. The multiplayer is pretty badass for a handheld game, although everyone is terrible right now. I can just camp the rocket launcher and annihilate all comers (makes it even more fun for the jackass in me).

It runs perfectly on a 3g too. This feels like a big budget release on a real console, and while it may not be from the most creative of teams there aren't really any compromises to be made. It kinda reminds me of Metroid Prime Hunters on the DS, except easier on the hands and eyes.

Bombardiers Guild. We've been getting positive feedback from everyone that tries it so give it a go and let me know what you think :)

Okay, my thoughts, having played for a while last night (and I won't sugar-coat these etc).

Love the aesthetics. Enjoy the graphics. Control scheme is workable, but I generally prefer this sort of game (gravity object throwing game) with a catapult scheme.

It needs - in my humble - an easier first few levels, as I got to about the 4th map and just got frustrated. One planet, two at most should be ample for the first ten levels, maybe, keeping it nice and easy. On level 4 I ended up accidentally killing myself, and that's having played these games before. Maybe some way of seeing the initial path of the bomb from your launch might help line up angles better? I don't know. I really like the game, and I want to like it much more, but it's just too frustrating right now for me to play. My wife used to love the old Penguin catapult space game, and she loves steampunk things, so I would love to get her onto this. However, she would delete it in minutes, because it's just too hard at the start.

As I say, these are just my opinions, but if you patch it to have easier levels at the start, I'll be right back in.

I'm so close to biting the bullet and buying NOVA... But knowing Gameloft, it'll be 3 bucks cheaper in a week...

Ahh, what to do...

Edit: I am weak. I bought it, it's downloading now. I guess I'll have impressions later.

Damn, NOVA multiplayer is awesome. Shits all over Eliminate. BUY BUY BUY.

Also, Arachnadoodle is pretty sweet. Somebody had the idea to combine Peggle and Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor and make a fun little $1 game with 32 levels. Definitely recommended.

My recommendation for NOVA is to move the jump button up top (or wherever, I haven't need it much so far) and drag the analogue stick and fire buttons into the corners.

I kept missing the buttons and obscuring the screen, but now it feels good.

Quite a good little game!

I'm really enjoying nova! The online needs a little tweaking, you need to be able to see the server setting b4 you join, and the leaderboards are only showing the top 10 right now so I can't really tell how I'm doing, but it's pretty damn fun.

I've noticed the framerate online is actually better than in single player, although both are pretty damn smooth. Must be the ai.

Gameloft live is already built into the game, so if they use it for something actually useful like frendslists you can use ingame for invites and stuff this could be a very badass little multiplayer game.

Yeah man. NOVA is a weird one for me because I get what Gameloft is, I know why they do what they do, and I even own and enjoyed some of their clones...but this one just seems incredibly insulting to me.

All it's going to take is for one company to build enough of a case against Gameloft, then they're fucked. Until then, I'll admit they do have some balls.

I don't understand why it hasn't happened yet. It's not like the mobile market isn't worth fighting for.

Probably something hard to prove in court. Anyone can look at it and with common sense say it's a rip on Halo, but I'm sure they were careful enough to be just different enough to avoid actual infringement. Cortana was totally ripped from Tron anyway.
