Probably something hard to prove in court. Anyone can look at it and with common sense say it's a rip on Halo, but I'm sure they were careful enough to be just different enough to avoid actual infringement. Cortana was totally ripped from Tron anyway.

Sure, but they have an entire history of wholesale photocopying other titles. Established ones, too. In the past 3 months alone they've cloned GTA3, COD4, and Soul Calibur.

so doeas nova have a similair control sceheme to modern combat then?
Yes and this time you can customise where on the screen everything is! like the left thumbstick, the right fire button, your jump and grenade buttons etc. Let's you slide them about under advanced options to where you like them.

I played until my touch's battery hit 20% so about 2 hours, played the first 5 or so missions and then half an hour of multi which works flawless compared to modern combat's buggy netcode.

It's very much a halo clone but it plays with more run and gun then halo does, i'm playing on medium and died a few times from huge ambushes or at one point falling out of the map until I paused and hit restart checkpoint :P

Visually the game is amazing, a few choke points but it's quite amazing how nice it looks.

The sniper rifle however is extremely twitchy, they should half the aiming sensitivity when you zoom in as right now it's a bitch to use if you raise your aiming speed above the normal 30% or so.

Worth £4, multi is good fun.

double tap to shoot? thats the only way to go when it comes to iphone fps.
I wish there was an option for it but not checked all the layouts, probably the same as all the control choices in sandstorm.

I do wish the layouts were a bit more open, there are a few optional quests you can detour and complete but when you hit the jungles it's still only forward to progress with a few large areas with 1 exit to progress again.

Just bought spider and after only a few mins with the game I'm very impressed. This is exactly what I was looking for in an iPhone game.

I also been playing skies of glory, not interested in the WW2 story or anything but the multiplayer is top fun (lol get it?) 8 player dog fights is the bees knees.

Thanks for the suggestions about DDR, I'll get S eventually.

Silent Scope runs like shit on my 3G, if it ran well (which it may on a 3GS/3rd gen touch) it'd be worth a shot I guess. Depends if you like the series too. I'm a bit of a sucker for it and even enjoyed the DC (w/controller) and GBA ports.
I have a 3rd gen Touch. Did anyone else buy it? How does it run?
I loved the original arcade game :D

Edge was updated in NZ today. This is good news, as they had made a new version 'Edgy', and removed the old version. But it's back. And it's called 'Edge'. Not Edgy. Not Edge by Mobigame. Edge.

Of course, Tim's trademark doesn't extend to New Zealand, so who knows.
EDGE is back in Europe too.

I can't find an official release date for Plants vs. Zombies. Anyone have an idea of when it's coming out?

Pretty soon, I think. Someone from Popcap demoed it on some morning news show a few weeks ago.

hey guys and girls, my best friend got an i-pod touch for his birthday, and i want to give him a couple of the best games available.. but i don't know what's out there and what i should get him.. (don't have one myself unfortunately..)

What are the top 3 must have i-pod/ i-phone touch games?
He likes anything, as long as it's good.

thanx for the help!!

Peggle and Azkend, without a doubt.

Real Racing is awesome too.

Also, Arachnadoodle is pretty sweet. Somebody had the idea to combine Peggle and Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor and make a fun little $1 game with 32 levels. Definitely recommended.

Bought and loving it. I just wrapped up Angry Birds and was looking for something else to get lost in. This fits the bill perfectly. Thanks for the mention.

Remember the old Simpsons arcade beat 'em up from 1991? Have you ever thought it would be a great fit for the iPhone? Well, EA seems to have had a similar thought, but this is not the exact same game you pumped your quarters into as a kid. It's obviously inspired by that earlier classic, but with some pretty significant changes to make it completely original.

Yeah, this one's definitely got my attention.

I just put about an hour into NOVA. It's absolutely fantastic. I was extremely skeptical because I hated Modern Combat, but NOVA is just great. I played about 40 minutes of single player and 20 of multiplayer. Multiplayer ran fine, but everyone kinda sucks, so it was a little boring. Single player might get boring later on, but it seems pretty solid so far.

The controls are great. I use control method 2 (where it uses a floating control stick) and moved the shot button a little higher. I also had to jack up the sensitivity to about 70%. Anyway, it's a great game and definitely worth the 7 bucks.

Pick it up and add me on Gameloft LIVE. I'm "Dacvak"

I have a futureshop credit for about $20 which I was gonig to just change for a iTunes card. Do they pull a MS and force me to be stuck with unused pointes (i.e if I spend $19) or can I use the last of the points and then switch to my credit card?

I've heard that an iTunes card doesn't work on the Canadian AppStore (you can only buy music), so I wouldn't bother.

Today's Appvent Free Game is Cabby. It looks like a cross between Blimp and a Crazy Taxi game.

All the current EA deals are on until Christmas, so nothing new to report.

Hmmm ... looks like SGN has now made F.A.S.T. available for F.R.E.E.

No mention in the description of a limited time, just says, "NOW FREE!!". Good fun game, definitely worth your time to download.

EDIT: Wait --- were there always in-game DLC purchases? Ugh ... hope they didn't pull a "Digital Chocolate" on me. :-|
EDIT2: Annnnnd I can't tell, because F.A.S.T. no longer runs for me. Simply crashes after the SGN logo, even after reboot. GREAT VALUE!

Really? How odd. I thought it wasn't 'points', just credit associated with the account. Why would they prevent you from using it in the appstore?

That's definitely the case (no app purchases with iTunes cards). Very annoying. I've got a $25 balance on my iTunes account, which is fine, but I'd rather churn through iTunes cards than credit card funds for everything I do on iTunes. Although I haven't paid for a game for my Touch in quite a while (with Black Friday and the holiday deals, I've downloaded more free stuff than I've had the opportunity to play).

DISCLAIMER: This post is discussing Canada.

From what I read, it is something to do with Apple not wanting to pay Canadian taxes for selling software versus music. The official line says "International tax law differences" or something similar as the reason.

I downloaded it, it's a lite version. Popups asking you to buy the full version to get Multiplayer, more levels and more Planes.

Yeah after Sickboy's post, I figured it was something to do with regulations or what not.

It runs ok-not-great on a 3GS, but I wouldn't pay more than a buck for it, as the game was simply not meant to be played this way. Trying to hit a moving target (aka almost every boss) is nearly impossible.

Hmmm ... that's odd. I bought it when it was 99 cents a few months ago, and I don't have popups like that. There's definitely a marketplace now for plane and map purchases, but I'm not prompted to purchase multiplayer --- it's already open for me.

Seems strange, since they only have two versions of the game on the App store, and both are free (one is the Chinese language version, apparently).

what pisses me of most is that early yesterday I looked up the TiV for batman on the PS3 and it was $35.

I went to futureshop to exchange at my lunch hour to buy a case for the Ipod Touch, waited forever and then was told it was $20. I accepted and picked up :

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10111039&catid=

paying the extra $20

after opening it and realizing it was cheap it was and that cost maybe 0.25 to manufacture I realized it would keep me up at night and returned it.

Now I lost Batman and can't even get some apps : (

Damn you Canadian regulations!!

:P

it's sad that they seem like a really talented group of people, their games are so polished and well executed.......and they can't make a game that isn't a trademark infringement. you can sell copies even if it doesn't remind a player exactly of another game, guys.

It seems to me you are under the impression that a company is a democracy.

It's odd indeed since the game seems to let me play via Bluetooth and Wifi. Maybe I'm reading the message wrong but it suggests the Full versions contains the content it lists.

Agreed, but welcome to the gaming industry. It's a shame, but there's no way a random iPhone FPS that didn't directly copy Halo would generate this much buzz and overall sales. Hopefully Gameloft will get to the point where they don't need to blatantly copy popular games in order to sell their products, but I don't count on that happening for a while.

Any money says they have a Left 4 Dead and Mario-esque game in development right now.

Wow. I don't know what that's all about, but I agree with the way you're reading that popup.

anyone beat NOVA? what's the length? I wanna make my purchase valid.
It's probably about 4-6 hours if I had to guess, I'm on the 6th level or so. Honestly if you're on the fence I would just buy it, it's good.

Gameloft already have castle of magic which is like mario, but it was also on the n-gage or something a few years ago and the app port is remade, it's not too bad too.

Since nova and sandstorm have been testing the waters with online FPS stuff I would not be surprised to see a L4D clone, especially since CoD Zombies is selling so well at full price, gameloft will want a large slice of that pie.
