All right, you assholes.

I would split all the Kobe/Jordan vitriol into a separate thread, except there's about 80 billion posts to go through and I'll be damned if I waste my valuable time reading each one. So this is what I'm going to do.

- Rename this thread "The Official Kobe vs MJ Fight Thread".
- Unsticky it. If you want to clown each other from now until Christ's return, you can find this thread and put your commentary in here.
- Create a new NBA Finals thread strictly reserved for NBA Finals commentary and discourse.

The first person - I mean the very first, I don't care how much I like you personally or enjoy your posts - to mention Michael Jordan in the new NBA Finals thread will be banned for six months. No appeal. If I see "MJ, #23, Bulls > Lakers, Kobe > MJ, more rings at age 28"...any of that bullshit, you're gone until December. Try me if you think I'm kidding.

Damn, not enough people had an oppostunity to see Kobe's uniform for next season, maybe I'll have to find that link again.

Here's a shocker: After Jordan retired (wasn't a real fan back then), I followed the Lakers for half the season, untill I saw the Kings play. They are my 2nd favorite team to watch, but I can't admit liking them after what they did to the Kings in 2002.

Turning over a new leaf for a new forum. :)

Lakers in 6. Kobe will end his careeer in style. :p

Lakers will win this series in 6, and Kobe will finally have himself a Finals MVP trophy. You'd think the best player in the NBA would be afforded a little bit more respect, but I guess he's not "marketable" enough, now.

Konex, is that you? ;)

Kobe isn't the best player in the league. Even if he is, it's not as clear-cut as you seem to think it is. :P And there's no way that Kobe will get the Finals MVP against the Piston defense. Nope.

Please, Loki, spare me the "not the best player in the league" rants. I've seen enough of them to realize that your impressions of ANY Lakers player is jaded and not grounded in what most normal people would call "reality". Rip Hamilton will not score more than 15pts a game with Kobe defending him.

If it's not Konex, then it's gotta be Lonestar lol. :P

Dude, he's one of the top 3 or 4 players in the league-- I just don't see how you can unequivocally call him THE best player in the league.

And Hamilton will score as many as he wants to, unless the other Lakers players make it a priority to help Kobe out defening him. Guys like Hamilton and Reggie Miller are the least affected by good man-to-man defense due to their usage of screens away from the ball. So LA as a TEAM will have to make shutting down Hamilton a priority, not just Kobe, no matter how good a defender he is (and his first-team defensive nomination this year was a farce, btw, but anyway...). :P

I'm predicting 33/7/7 tonight by Kobe. Detroit hasn't had to face a guard of Kobe's caliber yet in the playoffs...

...their day of reckoning is nigh.

I've got the Lakers in five in my playoff bracket thing. Sounds about right.

I hope the Lakers end it quickly... I've had enough of those 'Let's get it started' commercials. Gah.

OMG Lakers are KILLING the pistons!!

Kobe is rocking the pistons, they can't handle it!!

Pistons win this game, they win the series.

Of course, we'll need a 20 point lead with 3 minutes to play if we have any hopes of surviving the Laker's march to the FT line.

Wow, Kobe just proved what I've been saying by stuffing Rip's shot. He was ALL over him like flies on shit... it was beautiful.

And when second year in the NBA Tayshaun Prince was guarding Bryant, Kobe didn't do SHIT. In fact, every shot he took looked awful, and he didn't get to drive to the rim once.

RE-JECTED! Almost forgot that Kobe's a decent defender.

Decent? He's been All-Nba Defensive 1st team before, and if it weren't for the fact that Shaq were behind him, he'd be on that team more.

I said "I almost forgot" because his D's been missing in action lately (or hasn't been as explosive as it was before 2002).

Actually, the only reason Kobe's defense is being somewhat effective is because Hamilton is going away from his game-- his game is not to catch the ball and then set up his own shot, it's to constantly work off screens and use his other men to wear out his defender and keep them guessing. Rip's been standing around too much, playing to Kobe's defensive strength. Doesn't help that they're letting LA hold guys off the screens, but whatever (for evidence, notice how guys like Hamilton stand up straight as if getting pulled from behind as soon as they cross a screen).

Oh, and HalfPastNoon, you've got it wrong-- the only reason Kobe HAS been on the first-team all-defense is because of Shaq. Somehow Laker fans think that the truism of "having shot blockers and intimidators clogging the paint behind you allowing you to exert more and better perimeter pressure" doesn't apply to the beloved Kobe. News flash: it applies to everybody. He overextends himself WAY more than he'd be able to if Shaq weren't there to erase his mistakes and prevent guys from even thinking about driving. Watch the next time his man beats him-- Shaq is always there waiting, helping his little brother out. How cute. :P

Kobe's defense is a joke imo. Yeah, if I was allowed to foul a guy 4 times per play I'd shut them down too. lol Ok, ok, he's not a joke, but he's no better than the 3rd or 4th best guard defender in the league behind Artest, Bowen and Christie. Period. It's especially amazing what Christie accomplishes without having ANY sort of shot-blocking presence behind him (Artest has O'Neal, Kobe has Shaq, and Bowen has Duncan).

Pistons missing a LOT of easy shots (Ben Wallace trying a reverse instead of slamming it? Wtf!?), and not utilizing Hamilton in a manner that's gonna get Kobe tired in the second half. Maybe they can still pull it out, but they're gonna have to play much smarter in the second half.
