the official MVP/ESPN/ETC Baseball 2k5 THREAD!

well we know that there are at least TWO pretty good baseball games coming out. not sure if high heat is returning or whatever, but i will likely pickup both MVP and ESPN MLB. i wish MVP had online leagues :(

but ESPN will, so that'll be cool. how many people would be interested in playing in an online league for one or both games?

p.s. post any screen shots, news, info, etc. here so we can keep track!

p.s.2 GO TWINS! (even though i dont have a true baseball team as i do football!)

I'm down for both games and I'm calling the Astros now! :P

I dont really care for the espn baseball game, but will still buy it for leagues.

just so everyone knows, i had a no hitter in the bottom of 8th with 2 outs, DM pops it up and as soon as i catch the ball for the 3rd out, the PS2 tells me "You have committed an unfair play act. You will now be disconnected" and DM gets off the hook of the eternal shame of being no-hit. disgraceful DM, you and your god damn EA cronies rape me of my destiny. i'll get you this year friend... moyer can't save you!

Don't forget Garcia's 1-hitter against YOU! Plus like 16-18 Ks! :P

I could do 1 hitters in my sleep.

A perfect game is an art form.

Anyone else scared mvp will have shitty lag on xbox live? They cant even get NBA Live right :|

if espn wont let you play online with roster updates then i wont be buying it, if you can then im not sure. $20 is tempting but im sure mvp will be the better game.

I really wanted to see what MSFT's take on High Heat woulda amounted to.

They bought the team and then dropped the team!~ Not cool!

He is going to look so sexy in a Cubs uniform.

BTW, if online leagues are available, I'm taking the Cubs! Chicago teams are always shit in every other sports game where I play leagues in. I want to use the one Chicago sports team that is good!

This is a little TOO early. Baseball games won't come out til March :lol

Indeed, but tis the season for FMT jumping the gun! Anyway, I can't say I'm excited about the games this year. Maybe it's because we let our best offensive player go, and we signed only Koskie, and maybe it's because I'm enjoying Madden now more than ever. I know I'll only get one this year, probably MVP, since I don't trust any ESPN games after what I've been through so far with NFL, NBA and college hoops.

Good thing I wont have to worry about frontrunners playing as Philly teams in baseball...well before the season starts atleast, but once they win the world series I dont know what I'll do.

well, MVP is far superior than high heat was (from a purely gameplay standpoint)

Dude, any sports game cred you had has just been lost. Anyone with an inkling of brain power knows High Heat has never been beaten when it comes to pure gameplay. ESPN last year is the closest to High Heat in its prime. Those EA Trax have melted your mind.

I thought there was an announcement that High Heat won't be doing anything this year.

I'll be buying all 3 games like a psycho this year.

Too bad about High Heat...

I'll be at the very least renting ESPN both and MVP to make a decision since i can't really do the franchise mode in both

If you have a PS2, give MLB a look.

Definitely my favorite baseball title of last year, and some of my minor concerns (check swing, editable rosters) have definitely been addressed in this year's version.

ESPN is really a crapshoot at the moment. New developer, and I haven't heard that much yet. It's coming from Kush, developers of the College Hoops game ..... so it could be a real step up.

You know I'll buy both, then a week later be asking myself why the fuck I fell into the ESPN trap again.

I've got the Indians for both bitches :P

Last season's MLB is the best game 989 has put out in years. MVP took the crown as my favorite baseball game last year, but MLB was a nice surprise. I'm anxious to see how it turns out this year. I was a bit disappointed with ESPN, it wasn't a bad game but it just felt kind of stale compared to the others.

Off topic, I see you guys at OS named College Hoops as Game of the Year. I really need to pick that up since March Madness isn't really doing much for me.

Not my personal pick .... but it's one helluva good game, and definitely a worthy GOTY for sports gaming.

I thought MM was solid and the Floor General was great, but CH is a really nice subtle game that rewards repeated play. Definitely worth the $19.99 ... and I think I saw a deal in one of the Deal Threads here that someplace has all the ESPN sports games for 2 for $30.

live thread live! about a month until MVP baseball hits, the only baseball game that matters in my opinion.*

* is espn mlb ends up being $19.99 (it's listed @ $49.99 on ebgames and other sites, so who knows), i may give it a shot. but judging from the quality of this years crop of ESPN games (nhl excluded, as it is the best hockey game on the market), i'm not expecting much out of ESPN Mlb. it has truly been a case with espn nfl, nba, ncaa in which you get what you pay for

KUSH Games (the one who did NHL this year) is doing MLB. It should be leaps and bounds better than last year's version.

Holy shit,I just saw this...I thought OS was supposed to be like a real sports gamer place :lol :lol

College Hoops as SGOTY?! *dies*

MVP 2004 was far and away my favorite baseball game last year. I hated ESPN because I thought the pitcher/batter mechanics were complete garbage by comparison. I'm hoping High Heat comes back strong because I always loved it. I remember playing the very first High Heat online on the PC back in the day when it first came out. It was brilliant! I don't think anything could ever touch the perfection that it had. Not many of us back then, but man was it fun. And the little community was so tight and competitive. Miss those days.

I don't know how a website, dedicated to sports, can vote NFL2K5 over Madden 2005 for sports game of the year. They must like flash over substance. The gameplay in ESPN2K5 is not its strongsuit. The presentation is. Too much crap in that game happens between the power running backs and amazing double coverage catches that always seem to happen.

Anyway, back to baseball, hopefully EA has a league for MVP! That would be sweet! :D

If you don't like it, why don't you quit the league and stop bitching about it!

*GAF NFL2K5 leagues die*

<Konex> Oops :(

If you didn't whine about every game you play, then you'd be respectable to me. Their opinions are as good as anybody elses. Can't really fault anybody going either way on the football games, both are exploitable with glitches, both needing to play under house rules to make it good. Though I have to admit, baseball freaks do the most bitching out of all of the sports gaming fans. Should be lots of fun. Can't have a glass is half full attitude around here it would seem. Always the immature snarking and bullshit.

I can't wait to try this year's baseball games. If ESPN MLB is $20 I'll probably buy it. I've bought all their games this season thanks to the price point. I'll rent MVP on release and probably buy it down the road. I'm very interested to see how 989's MLB turns out too. They really improved that game last year.

I really hope you are talking about my post, because I have lived in the 2K series since its inception and saw the light this year with Madden 2005 (First Madden game I've bought since madden 97). So maybe you should lighten up on your snarky retort. It's the best onfield representation of the sport available. You want to talk about presentation that is another story. This is a MLB thread so we really shouldn't be discussing the issue here but if you want to create a new thread on the topic I'm for it.

i will field this one even though it's not directed at me.

the sports fan here WHINE about every game (madden included) because we fucking paid money for the games! if i paid $21.64 after taxes for a piece of shit (ESPN NFL 2k5), what do you want me to do? take it in the ass and not say anything, thereby possibly causing more copies to be sold to unsuspecting buyers?

i CAN fault op sports for picking ESPN NFL 2k5 because it is so clearly inferior on so many levels to madden. the FACT (yes, fact!) that the AI overall in ESPN NFL 2k5 in so shitty compared to madden should be the #1 reason why madden wins the sports game of the year. playing ESPN NFL is akin to playing someone in a card game of War or just flat out playing craps. there is absolutely NO consistency to the articifical intelligence, the most IMPORANT thing in a sports game! if i call a double team on receiver Joe Catcher, then by god there should be a high probability that he isn't going to catch the ball. as espn nfl is now, i dont know WTF is going to happen, regardless of my players ratings. that is one of the many, vast problems with ESPN nfl and infact visual concepts games in general. i know this isn't a football thread but i had to say that.

anyways back to baseball, i highly doubt that EA is going to run online leagues. would you guys be up for running a league ourselves? i have the webspace i can use, and can probably create some Division templates and schedules and stuff. the only problem is the stat tracking... which i guess if EA allows emails of game stats could somewhat be solved, but its a lot of work. let me know though

p.s. operation sports is a total fucking joke. i lost all respect for them after they reported that there was no slowdown in the Xbox version of NCAA 2005, then i get the game and sure enough i see it on my first play. i expect that kind of crappy journalism/reporting from a non-sports site like gamespot or ign, but not from a sports specialty site. that is unacceptable and a complete joke
