OLD Gamers unite.

Hi yall, I can't wait to talk about our favorite games together, like Assassins Creed Shadows, Veilguard, Skull and Bones, and Suicide Squad. But no, I'm yet another old gamer who likes RPGs. I'm also into strategy, Roguelites, and the occasional action game. Looking forward Slay the Spire 2 this year. Enter the Gungeon 2 just got announced but I'm not sure about how I feel about the switch to 3D. It's hard enough to keep track of everything in bullet hells without adding camera perspectives.

well, here i am.

May as well, I guess... here's my very long introduction post.

I was a grrrl gamer (or just a girl gamer, I guess) in the late 90s, mainly of Japanese JRPGs, back when being a girl gaming geek still wasn't cool. Wait, is it cool now? I'm not sure. I was there when forums were still a thing, I was there for the glory days of the PS1, I was there for Great Final Fantasy Wars, I saw... well, some of it. Then I came to a conclusion that the internet, like real life, is full of assholes and got tired of it and quit forums for a long time.

At any rate, the last time I played games with any persistence was twenty years ago. I think I gave up in the middle of Shadow Hearts 2 and never went back. Grad school and vision problems were an issue for me too, so it was really hard to pick up games and play when I had to 'save' my eyes for other things. They are also a huge time sink. This still makes me sad because I had so many fond memories of the games that I played. Huge nostalgia for the late 90s.

At any rate, I never really lost interest in games. My interest persisted a lot longer than, say, anime, where I watched it for a few years in the late 90s/early 2000s, got to Cowboy Bebop and realized I may never find anything better, and just forgot about it. I kept up with gaming news here and there, looked at new screenshots of... PS2 games... then the new PS3... then it was the new PS4... and everything in-between. I also kept buying games because I had the usual Fear of Missing Out, and until games went purely electronic in the last decade or so I felt compelled to buy games that seemed interesting. I also bought a GBA, Vita, and PSP, and games for all those consoles. Finally, I bought a PS5 last year because there was a new Star Ocean and a bunch of other games that looked really great. And did not play it. My brother ended up borrowing it and I don't think I'll see it back for a while but that's okay, I permanently borrowed his 3DO. Which I do not play.

I think maybe in 20 years when I retire I'll pick 'em up again and play my backlog of... oh, who knows how many I've got now. I'm not even sure if they'll still function, and I'll probably have to repurchase everything in a digital format.

And that's all. Despite this long post I don't anticipate posting too much on NeoGaf. I lurked here on and off the past couple of years. But I honestly still feel like I want to catch up with older games I know nothing about, so I read a lot of Let's Plays from the Something Awful Forums. Too bad about that forum.
