The Official TEKKEN 5 Thread

Why not? Best fighting game ever! :D

agreed! 100%

people playing in the arcades these days, who do you think are the cheapest characters? or at least ones the you hate playing against...

for me

Julie:
God damn elbow that is so fast and has hit pri over everything!
Law:
Is a power house in this game, fast as always with even more combos
And

Nina:

Lamest "jumping ground kick" Award goes to her

I only need to know one thing about Tekken 5. Does Nina still have her forward-forward-x nutkick?

Yeah and another power kick that kind of "stuns" when blocked...

Decided to pick this up this weekend despite having not played a tekken game since 2 (or 3?) Are there supposed to be any other bonuses besides tekken 1-3 arcade? Also, how many fighters are there (hopefully bryan fury is still in it - that guy kicked ass).

Holy catass, my copy just arrived!

I'll try to put up some digital snapshots of the LE contents when I figure out hosting duties, but in the meantime, that Hori stick is a freaking BEAST! About twice the size and girth of the now wimpy SC2 stick, this monster has cajones. Poor artbook got crushed and creased fromt he sheer weight of this thing in the shipping box.

The Anniversary DVD case is actually rather neat. It's a fold out binder with promotional art on each flap that looks wonderful. Each game's logo emblazons the desired slot for each game, and the cardboard slip you fit it into has Devil Jin's tattoo on the backside. I still have no plans to ditch my jewel and amaray cases, but all the artwork is pretty sweet.

Time to play...

It also includes a port of Star Blade, that you play while the game is loading, and a mini-game called Devil Within, which is like a beat 'em up starring Jin.

Let us know how you like it!! :) My copy still says "ETA 2/24." (Purchased it last night though) When did Gamestop notify you of shipping? Do the do it in the day time or later on at night?

Meanwhile, for the rest of us, here's some choice "reviews" from EBgames:

TEKKEN 5 SO ILL!
Man, I cannot wait for Tekken 5 to come out! This game is so sick, it blows Soul Calibur II and DOA: Ultimate out of da water! Over 30 characters, a customization system, and da graphics are raw, man. Better yet, da first 3 Tekkens are in this game! Tekken 5 is sick to da fullest! TEKKEN 4EVAHHHHH!!!!!

HERE'S WHY
Fighting games are fighting games. What's the object...........to destroy your opposition. NO game does it better then Tekken. All fighting games are comparable. They all fall below Tekken's standards. I can't wait to hammer out some moves on all the fools who come at me. I'll bleed them all!!!

THE FUTURE KING OF FIGHTERS
Tekken has been the best fighting game since Tekken 2. Tekken 5 has everything superior graphics to DOA and everything else, Character customization, around 30 characters, Extras, and the gameplay is the best out of all fighting games. Get this game when it comes out!

WISH I HAD THAT MUCH PAPER!
Tekken 5 is going 2 B tha $h!t. You can play the first three tekkens and the new tekken, it's worth all that paper. Most of the other tekkens were boring after you beat them but I got faith in this 1. But I'm sort of disappointed that there's no online. Plus I want to get it because I want to know what happened to Heihachi. I might even stop playing GTA:San Andreas for this one because I love tekken and I beat every tekken, 1,2,3,tag, and 5 might be a challenge. Tekken finally listened and put Devil Jin in the game. this could B tha best fighting game ever and I hope it will also come out for the PSP. I might go get it in a couple days. N'ah mean?!

GOOD FIGHTER BUT IT WONT BEAT SOUL CALIBUR
This game looks very good graphics wise. I hope the same gameplay will be in this game. However, this game still will lack. 1) NO ONLINE PLAY PEOPLE FIGHTING GAMES NEED STINKIN ONLINE PLAY.2) No weapons , unlike soul calibur, really takes this game down. 3) I heard there is only gonna be 5 new characters wuts up wit that i want mor unlockable chars than that. No doubt this game kicks butt. It will not ever be the best fighter ever tho.

DOA AND TEKKEN
ok l'm gonna be fair and unbiased about DOA and TEKKEN

first of all, DOA, l don't have a xbox, but l have a PS2 and DOA 2 harcore, and honestly l think it's better than any Tekken game l played. Why? not because the eye candies, the girls look like manniques to me, l think Tekken girls are more realistic and hotter. DOA has a lot that Tekken dont have, Tag combos, Tag throw, environment switch, and very fast paced.

As for Tekken, it's not as fast-paced as DOA, but it's faster than Mortal Kombats for sure. lt has some mini games and character customation for t5 which DOA don't so it's good too.

And l was disappointed too that T5 is not online, the only major change is characer customation, the minor change is better graphic and more chracters.

SERIOUS DOUBTS
I have serious doubts about this one. Tekken pretty much hasn't changed since Tekken 2. The only thing Namco has done with each new Tekken game is changed the graphics engine and introduced a few more characters here and there. Tekken reached its peak in the 3rd installment. After that Tekken 4 was a complete disappointment.
I see no reason whatsoever why anyone should go and pick up this game. I would recommand games like Soul Calibur 2 or Dead or Alive Online that innovative with every new chapter in the seriess and offer deeper, more rewarding gameplay modes.

BAD 2 THE BONE IN A GOOD WAY !!!LOVE IT .... HATE IT at times i do both but for some reason i just cant get enough of it yes much like how mortal kombat made blood is fighting games a household thing ,DOA also implemented the bounce factor and hot chicks into fighting games .. which was an definate step up from SF II Chumg Li to say the least . And as easy as i can remember how those games revolutionized fighting games the same can be said for the tekken series.

Along with Battle Arena Toshinden the original tekken pioneered the way and is why for the most part 2 D fighters are a thing of the past =( Anyway to make a long story short this tekken has better graphics a faster framerate (1) Lots of bonus games and unlockable characters
(2) A tekken force style game called Devil mode.. Staring Jin Kazama (3) and to top it all off it has Tekken Tekken 2 and Tekken 3 all bundled in so that you can go super oldschool =D enough said .

-Starbalde is in upon bootup, once game is loaded you can hit start to jump right into Tekken, or keep playing at least until the level ends.

-Like SC2, game supports both 16:9 and Progressive Scan despite not being marked at all on boxart. No stupid code entry either, just switch it up under game options. No DPL2 it seems.

-31+ fighters at least, 20 selectable from power-on.

-Gorgeous game.

I don't know if it was Tekken 1 or 2., but Jack had an ending where he was with a little girl on an island and then was shot and killed by some satellite in outer space, his final vision was of the girl looking at him.

That shit was tragic. Best ending in any fighting game ever.

Er, you're missing the final part of the ending. After the explosion, it's revealed that Jack created a barrier around itself and the girl, protecting them from the explosion. I think you trigger the change either the second time you finish the game with Jack or when you unlock everything. Oh and that was Tekken 3.

Okay, Jinpachi is a summavabitch. I was really kinda hoping for him to be a Heihachi clone with some signature moves, but his teleporting/healing/fireball antics make him 2005's Gon on the versus roster I think. I love his design though, when his stomach isn't trying to feed.

Story mode features a prologue similar to Tekken 4, and a unique midboss complete with pre and post fight cinematics. Endings are FMV, Asuka's is all I have seen so far.

Doesn't seem like you can create multiple player profiles as concerned. Though I haven't screwed much with it. Attached to your name are the funds you can use to trick out any fighter, and each character holds an individual ranking(Beginner->Dan->Master me thinks), but I do not know if they are all tied to your nickname or specific to the use of each fighter...

Unlocking Theater mode gives access to not only the PS2 opening, but also the AC opening, and about 5-6 trailers shown dating back to E3, TGS, and such.

Loadtimes are speedy so far. Compared to SC2 on PS2 they are a noticeable improvement. Sometimes they are practically instantaneous. Too bad the versus attract screens don't feature the rendered heads to that taunt again though.

Tekken 1 plays pretty much perfectly. Extremely smooth and it could have fooled me if there is anything changed from the arcade. Hell I had forgotten you can change the camera angle with Start. Oh and you can even enter the Dip switch menu and change all sorts of features for the arcade games. Emulation is very well done.

Devil Within doesn't really suck. Ok, the environments are a bit bland, but Namco did good by not enforcing the same control scheme on the player, instead utilizing the full capabilities of a Dual Shock pad. It's a pretty solid beat-em up with all sorts of screen clearing throws and kick sweeps. Juggling three Jack's and then grabbing one to toss into a wall is pretty swank. It's by far the best Tekken Force yet, or rather the least dumb one. Playing with the arcade stick is not recommended.

Steve, Nina, Bryan, and Heihachi seem to be the best characters. The game hasn't been out long enough to really start making tiers but most people would argue that those are the strongest characters right now.

PS. Brandon.... I officially hate you! I've got to wait until Friday and the wait is killing me. Please post of pics of the stick if you can (put it next to the artbook so we can get an idea of its size). Thanks for the info btw.

More on the way...

links don't work

Not sure really. Her prologue says she learned Kazama-style martial arts from her father...Kazuya? Kazuya's unmentioned twin brother? But her goal in the tournament is to payback whoever attacked her father, which hasn't been explained yet, and her ending doesn't shed much light on her identity either. It's kinda cute and silly though.

So any word on an early release yet? Stores should get it in tomorrow (as in local stores, not shipping depots), so I'm hoping they will start selling it early. Gamestop still hasn't shipped out my CE ;_; so I might just cancel it and stick with the EB pre-order I have; they tend to sell big games like this the night before after 7pm.

Well.... since the game is coming out so soon, I guess it wouldn't hurt to post some pics that I capped a while ago. Spoilers abound though!

Ok, here is the lowdown on money and modes.

Seems you can only create one profile per memory card, so if your friends want to use their tricked out Xiayou or Jack, they better have their own mem card. :( All of your money is linked to your profile and you seem to have free reign over where to spend it.

Arcade mode is much like VF4's Kumite mode, just without the arcade-map and mini-quests. You wade through a perpetual assortment of AI drones with unique names and costumes and ranks(similar to VF4) and when you win, you have the choice of your next opponent among three various ranked foes. Money is gained between rounds, and you ONLY rank up with the character you have chosen to use rather than everyone being linked to your profile name. Not sure if specific accessories need to be unlocked with certain ranks or not yet.

Accessories that you see at the beginning are the only ones that you get. I'm already at Deity with Ling and nothing new is unlocked.

I don't know about this. I still think Namco has gone from a once cool company to lazy as hell.

WHATTT????

Ace Combat IV
Ace Combat V
Tekken Tag Tournament
Tekken 5
Ridge Racers
Batin Kitos
etc...

So arcade mode never ends, like Kumite, or are there just the regular 9 matches and then you start over?

Any idea how to unlock the hidden characters?

It's one at a time, every time you clear story mode. Heihachi is the last one unlocked. You can unlock DevilJin by finishing one stage of Devil Within, it seems. Either that or he's unlocked in Story Mode. I have no idea, really. I finished the 1st stage of DW and then finished Story Mode with two characters, and he magically appeared, :lol

Edit:

Oh, and for humour's sake.

Pertaining to the memory card situation:

When it comes to a competitor using his/her characters on "your" console per say, do they have the option of changing their outfits on your console, or must they fit their characters before stopping by?

Also, any captures of Asuka's or Law's third outfit would be greatly appreciated! :D
