OMFG, thats what I am getting friday!?!?

I CANT WAIT!!!#@WEJ#KWERN!

I suck at tekken btw. haha.

I am moving into 3d fighting games though. I dont think 2d has much juice left and looks like 3d fighting games are getting pretty popular.

Give me a call, Haunts. I suck at Tekken too and need someone to practice with. :)

Does the art book come with the bundle too? Or is that pre-order only? I don't plan on getting the bundle till next week (pay day).

You only get it if you pre-order either the stand-alone game or the bundle.

Only one more day... *waits impatiently*

Played a shitload last night, some more thoughts...pure game related mostly this time.

Parries are ruthlessly difficult to pull off in this game. Most characters can now do a parry+auto counter by pushing <- + LP+RP, which spurs some wacko animation that really drives your curiosity to witness it in action. Problem is, there is a very specific window it seems for the opponents attack to land for it to actually work. Far too deep into the animation to be culled upon in reactive close counter blitzes. Spent a lot of time in practice trying to perfect it since I tend to love the defensive game in these 3rd dimension brawlers. However Guard Impact this is not, and I am left a bit dissapointed.

Also I am not sure if it is me or breaking in the new arcade stick, but pulling off many of the F->QCF moves, such as Kazuya or Heihachi's low sweep kick twirls(Demon spin? forget actual name) are more sensitive and irritating to pull off on demand than ought to be. I even threw in SC2 and Heihachi's same move had a MUCH greater success rate, enough of a difference that it is cause for a bit of concern, something is fishy.

PS. Devil Within may be more interesting than Tekken Force, but it is still undeniably boring after 5 minutes.

Oh and the new Feng guy...pure class. Like Akira with far more severity in his animations and power charges.

Finally, hope this works...

FIRST OF ALL how much of a downgrade is PS2 T5 compared to the System 258 arcade coin-op T5 ? are we talking about a similar downgrade that we saw from System 12 arcade T3 to Playstation T3 ?

regardless, we all *KNOW* that the PS2 T5 has been somewhat, or at least slightly, downgraded from arcade T5. I suppose we will have to wait until Playstation3 to get a 100% exact port of T5. or maybe we'll get an upgraded port of T5, ala TTT on PS2.

Secondly what is it like playing T3 in Arcade History Mode, is it really really REALLY just like playing the arcade coin-op? or has something been downgraded or cut out? polygon count of the charactors? 3D polygonal backgrounds. textures. resolution. smoothness. etc. these things were all reduced (or cut) from the PS1 T3.
Now, while I expect the port of arcade-T3 that is in PS2-T5 to have all of the graphical detail that was missing from the PS1 version, thus a near-perfect T3 if not totally perfect T3, I am being cautiously optimistic. I would really appreciate some impressions from those people that have actually played T3 on PS2. not just to repeat what is expected, and what has already been mentioned online in previews or even reviews.

the reason why I am asking is, just because you have a direct arcade port of a game (i am thinking about Tekken 3 within PS2 Tekken 5, not T5 itself) that does not automatically mean it is 100% exact. case in point. Street Fighter 2 The World Warrior, Champion Edition, Turbo Hyper Fighting, Super Street Fighter 2, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo on Playstation and Saturn (found in Street Fighter Collection, Capcom Generation 5 and Street Fighter Collection 2) were all near-exact but NOT totally 100% exact. lower resolutions. missing glitch-tricks in World Warrior, smaller sprites and washed out color in Super/SuperTurbo.

p.s. sorry if these questions have already been addressed. but I'd like confirmation. hehe.

The graphics are just as good as the arcade.

oh really? hmmm. did you say, think that Tekken 3 graphics on PS1 were just as good as the arcade ?

Although I have not played T5 arcade or PS2 yet, here is the sense I am getting:

Tekken 5 on PS2 is probably closer to arcade T5, than compared to T3 on Playstation vs Arcade T3 but, perhaps PS2 T5 is not *quite* as close to arcade as T1 and T2 were on Playstation. T1 and T2 on Playstation had a few very slight downgrades. really very slight. they still looked 98~99 percent the same as the arcade. whereas T3 Playstation looked maybe 75 to 85 percent as good as T3 arcade...depending on how noticable the difference was to you personnally.

it *sounds* like Tekken 5 PS2 is gonna end up seeming like 90 to 95 pecent as good as the arcade graphically.

sorry if I come off as anal about these things. I am really not THAT anal, I just type alot.

You have to be off your rocker to be able to point out the faults with the Tekken AC emulation. I await some to take that challenge, but damn it all if the games won't convince even the most insane types.

I will probably agree with you about this. I have not yet picked up my copy yet. GameStop and EBgames are both expecting T5 within the next 1-2 hours. I will post impressions. I highly doubt that I will be able to find fault with T1, T2, T3 arcade emulation. I doubt I will be able to see any differences at all. I could certainly see the differences with playstation T1, T2 and especially T3, though.

So which stores are actually selling this today? I called the EB down the street but they said it wouldn't be in until Saturday. I wouldn't care but the northeast is probably going to be buried in snow (again) by then.

Actually i do have a Tekken 1 arcade question.

I seem to recall the PSX Tekken 1 having the jumbotron display working in action on the baseball field stage, mirroring the fight taking place. Did the arcade not have this?

next few hrs? my EB said they wouldnt get it until tommrow.

Did you pre-order at perimeter mall too? :) I called this morning and they said tomorrow, but it's still possible they might get it later today and sell it after 7pm. I'm going to call them in a few hours and see what they say.

that is a great question. I can't answer it because I don't remember, and I don't have a copy of Playstation Tekken 1 anymore. I'm going to re-acquire all the Tekkens. I'm sure someone will be able to provide an answer.

Yah, at the small store upstairs.

No. The graphics for Tekken 3 clearly took a hit when the game was ported to the PSX. Tekken 5's graphics hold up very well. You really have to look hard to find any differences. I'd say the graphics were 95-98% identical to the arcade (I say that based on the demo). I'd say the same thing about the PSX versions of Tekken & Tekken 2. There were plenty of small differences between the arcade/home versions of those two games but most people didn't really know where to look. For instance, if you were to place the arcade/home versions of Tekken 2 side by side you would see that the textures for the floor/ground are more crisp in the arcade version.

how much does the LE set go for?

and how much is that stick?

$100 and the stick isn't sold separately.

ACk does tekken 1-3 only come with the LE? I didn't know they included tag as well !

Tekken 1-3 comes with both the stand-alone game and LE. Neither comes with Tag.

If possible, this game is going straight on the hard drive. I'm rather impatient, plus, if I ever damaged the dvd and tekken 5 stopped working, I'd have to murder/clip someone rather quickly.

oh yes I totally know about the floor-ground textures in Arcade Tekken 2 being crisper than the on PS1. and the hit sparks of all three Tekkens on PS1 are blockier.

and......... just got Tekken 5 PS2 and am playing Tekken 3 in Arcade History Mode. so far it seems identical to arcade. :)

so I am expecting Tekken 5 to be 95% of the coin-op, once I have played both of them. so far I really know next to nothing about Tekken 5 other than general information.

man that is sweet!

I want all those games! Is the arcade stick compatible with all of them?

There isn't a single session of those games where I DON'T play with an arcade stick. So much fun!

More pics I kept trying tp put up yesterday...Comparison shots of Heihachi/Yoshi from SC2 and Tekken 5, both running in 16:9 Pro scan(525p).

nice! I played Soul Calibur 2 for the first time today and loved it!

Man I can't wait for this. If I didn't have a new application going into production at work tomorrow I would definitely be calling in sick.

Xexex, if you search the forum, you'll find an old thread that had comparision pictures between the T5 arcade and PS2 version. I remember that a lot of people were looking trying to find something, and noone could spot any visible difference.

Does Paul have any new moves? I watched some movies and it seems like he has the exact same move set he always had. Perhaps I should just get used to the fact that Paul will always only get 1 or 2 new moves per installment? He's pretty cheesy anyway.

As far as I know, it's only 480p Widescreen.

I wish I had enough cash for a new component cable. I gotta wait a few days 'til I can get it. :(

How is the saving and character customization handled?

I'm hoping it's not the totally FUBAR'd Sega AM2 crap that was present in VF4e on the PS2. Meaning yeah I could customize my character, but it's not like I could use my memory card / profile when fighting at Sea Manky's house. >:|

Godamnit im kicking myself in the ass for not preordering that CE instead

Still, TEKKEN 5 TOMMOROW!!! ahem*cough*

We got word tonight on SRK that the Tekken 5 Hori is just that, no Sanwa parts at all, so it's not even as good as the RAP. If you've already got a SC2 Hori or RAP sitting around, no need to bother with this thing because you already own the same or better.

Asuka looks awesome. Yoshi...I'm not so sure about. (Yoshi's never been that naked before.) The new Lee costume looks cool in the concept art, but the actually polygonal model is kind of meh.

I love Asuka and Law's new costumes. :)
Yoshi's costume looks like a purple terminator and Lee's look 'okay' (not bad, not good, not too exciting)

Yea, I noticed that myself. Understandable given the pricing of this bundle that Hori went with budget parts for the stick; yet I commented earlier how difficult it has been to pull off certain motions with consistency on this stick, and now this news. I have a feeling the octagonal Sanwa plate may have REALLY benefitted my problem.

I'm surprised no one has noticed by now, but they screwed up the wide-screen mode in the game. The widescreen mode actually chops off the top and bottom, resulting in the characters feet getting chopped off in battle, but 4:3 gives you a full inch or two spacing between the bottom of the screen and the characters feet.

Damn you Namco!!!

I haven't played the game outside of 16:9 to compare, but it always did seem cropped strangely.

I've unlocked everyone. Devil Within is decent, it's better than Death by Degrees. It gets really old, but the main villain in it is a pretty cool surprise.
