Found this at Gamefaqs.

Customization/profile - This was an unnecessary pain in the ass. To create a profile, a player must have their card in the first slot, edit their name, and play a round of Story Mode to "validate" it for VS play. Then, you have to reset the game, using another memory card, to create another profile. After playing that through with Story Mode once, you can then commence VS mode, using both profiles. Cute, Namco... I don't know if you have a deal with Sony on the side for a third-party memory card, but there was really no reason to limit profiles per card.

Ranking - BIGGEST COMPLAINT. For some reason, you can ONLY rank in Arcade Mode. The problem with this? ONLY P1 REGISTERS FOR PROFILE PLAY. You CANNOT rank against human players in VS mode, nor in Arcade mode. Is this a glitch? We played 150+ VS games, and never, NEVER recieved a promotion chance from Beginner on either profile. Consecutive, after resets, switching modes, nothing changed. Definite oversight from Namco.

Customization - Yes, Story Mode gives you 100,000 gold for each character you complete it with, but you only recieve this bonus once. Arcade Mode is the only other place you can recieve gold, based on your opponent rank (800-4,000). The problem here? It's computer AI ONLY. This has to be another serious oversight from Namco.

Oh well, at least you can use your custom characters against each other, but the ranking system is retarded if you can't use it against human players.

Hmm that is interesting but sounds kind of glitchy or like they didnt have some setting turned on or something.

So, some places don't have Tekken 5 yet, while others do... that just doens't make any sense. I think somebody's lying to get attention and to piss off us Tekken fans and make us think we have to wait longer

Whoa, everywhere I go people are pissed about Jin's ending. Why?

I mean honestly, it's the same damn story as Hei, Kaz, etc. Rejects the family, comes back to kick their asses, gets tainted and is now in charge.

Xexex, if you search the forum, you'll find an old thread that had comparision pictures between the T5 arcade and PS2 version. I remember that a lot of people were looking trying to find something, and noone could spot any visible difference.

Marconelly, Ive been looking for it but so far unable to find that thread. probably overlooked it while trying to wade through all the Tekken threads.

I love Tekken 5, man. The way it feels is just spot on-- somewhere in between TTT and T4, with more brutal lookin' moves.

I was the only cat that preordered the bundle at my local EB Games. So they only got one shipped-- mine. :lol Got it about a half hour ago and ran through some of my favorites in Practice mode. The arcade stick isn't quite as... Stiff as I'd like it to be. Feels like it'll wear down after a few months of use or somethin'. ArcadeStickMonk, what say you?

I need some new component cables, man. I want to see this game in 480p WS so bad.

How does the stick comapre to the HORI Soul Calibur stick that came out a while back? If it feels even close to that I'll be happy.

has anyone opened it up to see whats inside? I have a DC Agetec and I was considering perhaps switching out the sticks there if at all possible.

Sai,

also, i have played on a alot of sticks and sometimes it just takes time to warm up to it. sounds like you're already at that stage though. :lol

Just got it @ EB and they gave a me a free 10th Anniversary art book. Now I just gotta dust off the x-arcade stick I got for free back in 2003 and I'm ready to go.

Hey, I bought two good fighters in the same week. That never happens.

So I got the stick, just to do it, but the guy was talking it up like it was the best stick ever. I just smiled to myself, and only laughed a little. Then he says how great the SFAC stick was and if he wants me to go get that one too so I can check it out. So hard to hold my tongue; so prideful.

I swear I'm going to get ArcadeStickMonk t-shirts made up, just for instances like that.

I'm no monk, but I have spent the past couple days playing heavilly on the Tekken stick, and it's pretty much identical to my SC2 Hori. They both have a similar square restrictor plate, and the button placement is almost identical. People more psychotic about this stuff than I am are miffed that it isn't using official Sanwa parts that includes an octagonal plate and a slightly taller joystick, while rumors are circulating that Japan's version of the stick will have these deluxe parts when it releases end of March, which essentially mirrors the arcade units I think.

I do much prefer the bulkier size of the Tekken case though compared to the SC2. Also the buttons themselves are convex and have slightly more depression range rather than the flattened SC2 buttons.

I still have some slight issues trying to pull off circular motions on demand, but I've spent a lot of time in practice mode getting more accustomed as I don't think it's the sticks fault but rather my own handling. (Similar motions in SC2 never gave me these problems, but I do think that game was far more lenient on timing than Tekken 5)

I do dig the stick just fine, but if you can wait a month and import the white Tekken stick from Japan, it is probably a slightly better bet for just a bit more cash.

Hmm... You can order and swap these parts pretty easy though, right?

And that sucks, Doom_Bringer. :(

I'm so glad they took all the junk out of the foreground. I just wish you could pause and exit out of the arcade emulation. What is PS2's soft reset button combination? Never used it before.

Yea, just hit Start + Select to back out of ANY mode in Tekken 5, including the arcade games.

Oh and hold Select down to enter the arcade cabs debug settings.

Got it, love it, suck at it....so I need a lot of practice. :D

I already cheated so I could have all the characters and their endings available from the start. About to put in a code to get max gold in Devil Jin mode (which really does play better than Death By Degrees...it's sad) and see if I can buy all the crap in custom mode, too. All I want to do is practice up and get good so I don't care about the extras. :)

Does anyone know of a way for me to get the art book if I didn't preorder? I picked the game up at lunch today and the spiteful Gamestop clerk wouldn't hook me up.

Just got a call from EB, my bundle is in! I'm going right away to pick this up; I don't think I'll be going to my tutorial for school this week. :D

Thank you sir. Sounds good enough for me. :)

Does it cut off when you set it to progressive as well?

That kinda sucks...

It shouldn't, since progressive does not change the resolution or aspect ratio.

Anyway, I called up EB here in Montreal, and they do actually have the LE package (complete with art book), but you must have pre-ordered it.

Got it, looks incredible, plays fantastic, sticks not bad...but jesus christ do I suck at Tekken. I'm gonna shove that famous fried rice up Paul's ass.

Does Paul have any new moves? I watched some movies and it seems like he has the exact same move set he always had. Perhaps I should just get used to the fact that Paul will always only get 1 or 2 new moves per installment? He's pretty cheesy anyway.

Anybody know the answer to this? No Paul players?

I kinda suck at Tekken too, but I gotta say I think its awesome anyway. The graphics rival DOA, if you ask me. I can't believe that a game like this is on the PS2. After I just started to think that the PS2 is past it's prime, I get this game and am blown away.

The music, the stages, the cool characters, etc. All of it is better than any other Tekken by a country mile. No more fighting in parking lots or other lame locations. The new stages are downright gorgeous. The one with the full moon in the background and all the feathery flowers floating around is jaw-dropping. But what is it with Namco and stages that have old pirate ships in the background? I'd swear that the stage with all the gold on the ground is just a revamped version of that stage from SC2.

But yeah, this game is pretty frickin' sweet. I like how it just oozes "cool".

I picked it up today. I am at work so I haven't played it yet, but the art book is AWESOME. A very good give away. I also looked through the manual and I am pleased they have a progressive scan mode like Tekken 4 did. Should look incredible.

I'm really impressed with it so far. This is the first Tekken I've really enjoyed since Tekken 2. Graphics are great for PS2 although I think the floor smashing effect is really cheap looking.

Was DbD really worse than Devil Within?

...

Christ, DbD must've really been a pile of shit then.

But yeah, Urban Jungle's my favorite stage. :D BAAAASS!

I guess DBD and DW are about the same. Both pretty much suck, but are kind of decent because it's Tekken(to me at least). Both have stories that make no sense too. The whole point of DBD was to learn about Nina's past and I left it being more confused and feeling like I knew less than I did before I played it,

Death By Degrees is an average game that is brought down by its bad use of camera angles and some questionable control choices. It's still decent enough and has some fun parts if you stick with it. Devil Within has a much better control scheme and camera setting, but obviously as a game on its own, it would suck too. :)

What's up with Namco not putting Tekken 1-3 as a feature on the back of the box? Weird.

I am in awe of that moonlight stage. It's jaw-droppingly beautiful, and it rivals DOA Ultimate's backgrounds IMO. But then stages like the poolside look really average.

I like how it just oozes "cool".

...And then there's Roger Jr., Kuma/Panda, and Mokujin to mess that up. :lol

Right now I'm liking Asuka the most out of the new characters; I'm thinking I'm going to stick with her, Marduk, Lee, and possibly King.

It took me a long time to customize the characters, too. You can only customize the default outfits, but each one has different items you can use.

I love this stage as well. The music is *fantastic* in it

Edit: Yeah I really like Asuka as well, and bonus points for her having a hilarious ending :lol

Wow, this is one PACKED console release. Looks like they took a lot of cues from VF4evo with the profiles, the ranking system, and the character customization. The visuals are great, although I wish they'd axe the classic tin-foil hit sounds and give us some that sound meatier ala DoA and VF4.

Man, though, I suck at Tekken. :( Been playing WAY too much Evo lately.

Moonlite Wilderness is one of my favorite 3D fighting game backgrounds ever. Is it just me, or are there more flowers on the arcade version though?

Kuma, Panda, Roger Jr. and Mokujin are VERY cool.

Tekken 5 is like the funniest fighting game. Lee's thumbs up in the Kuma/Panda ending is hilarious!

Devil Within is cool for like 1 stage, then it starts to get REALLY old. Near the end it was just a chore to complete. I also hated the puzzles. Puzzles in Tekken. What!? After you beat DW you can go back and easily earn really expensive items for characters if you play it again, but I doubt many people will want to replay it.

Me too (well not VF4 but other fighters). My biggest problem is just remembering all the moves/combos; I wish the training mode displayed the commands on the bottom of the screen instead of only being able to view a CPU demo in the command list.

I might buy the strategy guide, for once.
