The Official TEKKEN 5 Thread

I'm too lazy to finish playing through Devil Within (plus its God-aweful). Can someone who's beat it answer something for me?

When you first start DW, the narrator says that Jin is infiltrating G-Corp. because his mother might be alive. Well.... is she?

No. Actually it's never mentioned again after that. What little story there is to DW makes very little sense and is doubtfully canon, so you're not missing much.

Ogre is in it though.

OK. Thanks. I read on TZ that you can grab custom items in DW mode on your second and subsequent plays through instead of buying them (the really expensive 500,000G ones) but honestly.... I think I'd rather watch paint dry or slit my own wrists than play DW mode any more. I'm probably just going to use my Action Replay to get infinite gold or something just so I can get the whole "unlocking items" aspect of the game out of the way. That way I can focus on just having fun with it.

Instead of having this horrible mode (I honestly think its the worst version of "Tekken Force" by far) they should have added some new custom items for each character.

Yeah, the second time through there's like 9 red devil icons in each level that if picked up unlock one of the 500,000 G items. I doubt I'll mess with it. THe mode sucks too much.

I would say it's better than the other Force modes though, at least you can finally retry if you die and save. I don't know why they insist on these modes. Does anyone actually like them?

Got this game earlier today.

+/- impressions:

+ Best CG intro EVER, seriously. The little bit with Feng killing his master is better than anything in Hero. Feng freaking kicks ass, btw. Intro music grew on me, as well. :P

+ Graphics are just unbelievable. What the hell is up with the screenshots Namco releases? They make T5 look like ass.

+ Gameplay is HAWT...haven't seriously played a Tekken game since T3, so it's gonna take a while to re-learn this stuff.

- Devil Within is awful, disgusting, horrible, whichever. Man, DBD must be the worst game ever made, with people saying that DW is much better.

- The CG endings seem to run at like 15fps. WTF?

- Not enough bouncing on teh boobies.

~ First time I play the full versions of Tekken 1 and Tekken 2. Man, do they look and play like shit. It's amazing people thought this crap was fun once. ;)

FINAL JUDGEMENT: One of the best fighters available, with incredible production values. However, not enough titty bouncing. 6.8.

BTW, how do you unlock Devil Jin? It's the only one I'm missing, and I seriously don't want to go through another stage of Devil Within for nothing. :P

You can unlock DJ by either beating Devil Within or just playing the regular game until he becomes unlocked. It takes like 200 matches.

It's good to see that the disdain for Devil Within is pretty universal. Tekken Force Mode always sucked, too.

The thought of getting free items through playing T:DW is tempting, but not nearly tempting enough to make me go through with it.

How much did you pay for it? Amazon.ca has it for $60, but I'm hoping I can get the LE from EB games.
Paid $65 for it. I figured I could get it cheaper somewhere, but I figured another $5 wouldn't kill me.

I think the "best" Tekken Force mode is still the very first one from Tekken 3. It was just a straight 2D beat 'em up, no need to deal with fucked up camera angles or weird ass jumping. Devil Within feels like Tobal 2's quest mode, only even shittier. Namco really needs to stop it with this crap.

o_O Bounce seemed to correspond with the girl. IE Asuka's obviously not as big as Nina.. I think. And on that note Nina did bounce decently XD

Just got done with a 16 hour session. I pretty much just played versus the whole time with a friend, except for a few hours in the middle we played Devil Within. Yep, it really is a bore to play. But we managed to pass it (The last boss took FOREVER!) Ogre
getting really big was an awesome twist, but after playing the Devil Within for so long, we just wanted to pass it. So we ended spending more than an hour trying to pass him, learning his weaknesses and stuff. Now he's pretty simple, (darn that flaming tornado move though! It really makes the end boss hard.)

I played primarily with my old favorites, Yoshi and King. And learned Raven quite well. Also played a lot of Jack 5, Wang, Nina, Brian, Ganryu, and Heihachi. All in all, it was an awesome day. Tekken 5 > all.

I fucking love the stages in this game. I just played in some area resembling antarctica. Nothing new I suppose since Tekken 1 did that too, but this time there's penguins running around all over the place. And the music is awesome. This game makes me want to skip work and play all day long. Fuckin awesome.

Can any stage beat Moonlight Wilderness? I don't think so.

I love how you can fall on top of a penguin and the poor thing just twitches for a few seconds before it dies and disappears.

You can kill frogs in Secret Gaden too. They turn to angels and go to heaven. Very tragic.

The music in Final stage 2 is so good.

150 matches to get Devil Jin and the 3 boss stages unlocked...

for those of you having problems with Jinpachi...

start of the round -> launch -> juggle -> run up -> launch on wakeup -> juggle -> run up -> launch on wakeup -> juggle -> run up -> launch on wakeup .. at this point he should be dead

Just got Devil Jin and the boss stages unlocked last night while playing 2P (that's all I've been playing). I like that Devil Jin is basically the Tekken 3/Tag version of Jin, too.

For the pervs: It's not about the breast bounce anymore. It's about the butt bounce. :lol

Still need so much practice on this game. I was getting killed so bad last night.

What?! No sale!

SOLD!

Seriously tho, why did namco try to do the beat em up mini game thing again? Would it be safe to assume that most peoples favorite tekken mini game is tekken bowl? Bring back tekken bowl for the next tekken game!

Asuka is my new favorite character to use. Any tips on executing her 10 hit combos while rising? I'm have some trouble rising to start the combos.

Asuka's 10-hitters are easier to pull from a back+1 attack. (The low arm sweep) Just start up the combo right from that strike.

Bryan Fury still rocks.. But Asuka Kazama is pretty cool too. :)

I love this game, VERY impressive graphics.. FINALLY Tekken Tag has been beaten when it comes to "best graphics for a BEU on the PS2". ;)

Btw, isnt the game pretty hard? Im having a haaaard time killing Heihachi Mishima and the guy after him, and Im playing on EASY! :(
Better start concentrating on just one character and learn the moves instead of whoring around. ;)

Yeah, that's from tekken 5 (well, the tekken 3 included in tekken 5).
I missed the thread about it being the ps1 or the arcade system 12 version, but having played it today i can confirm it is the psOne version, NOT the system 12 one.
Anyway, yes, there's not a huge difference : )

ok I am confused. are you saying that the Tekken 3 included with PS2 Tekken 5, in the Arcade History mode, is actually PSone T3 and not arcade System12 T3? if so, that doesnt seem right.

Alright, any word on a soundtrack? The main menu BGM, Urban Jungle(with the chants), and quite a few others... I'm just lovin' it. :)

Anybody got a few fan-made samples at least?

Visually, TTT was easily bested by the likes of Tekken 4, Soul Calibur 2, DOA2 Hardcore, and well, pretty much everything else. :lol

Anyone else get the sinking sensation that Namco will be releasing an updated version of T5 in the arcades in a few months with a couple more characters/items? Say around June? Not neccessarily TTT2 though (I believe we won't see that one until after Tekken 6 personally). Tekken 5 Evolution perhaps? I don't know...with the turn around time between the arcade and console versions being really short I can see them adding something to the arcade version to help it maintain its appeal. I also think we are in store for another T3 style time gap in the next installment.

He's wrong. It's not the PS1 version. T3 in the arcade history mode has 3D backgrounds.

No, sorry, i'm full of shit :D
That's what i thought after playing one round in Jin's stage earlier today (also because i was sure namco wouldn't bother porting the system 12 version when they could just use the psOne tekken 3 as it was) but i just looked again, and it's definately the arcade version. They're not too different, but there's fewer polygonal structures in psone tekken 3 stages.

yup, i just noticed that. PsOne tekken 3 stages had everything textured on 4 sides of a box, and while tekken 3 arcade uses mostly the same technique (only, there's more 'boxes' around the fighters, giving the illusion of depth with more 'layers') it also had a few real 3d structures.

Played it for a few hours and already beat it with some of the characters.

Man, for a minuted there I thought that Kazuya's ending was enough to bring a tear to a glass eye, but I should've known better, he that goddamn devil!!

That stage that's just a plain rock field, usually before the last boss has some kickass music.

Also, before I play a second more of it, do the Devil Within stages and music change? I feel like I'm stuck in a shitty dance club with no windows or exits, and the same music looping forever. It's bad enough to make me wake up screaming at night.

The detail on the characters in TTT has yet to be surpassed by any fighter on PS2.

I think you need to go and boot the game up. :) It's been showing its age for some time now.

IMO the characters in Tekken 4 look much better than the models in TTT PS2. The art style is different, however, and the backgrounds in TK4 are much more detailed compared to the TTT backgrounds.

Um, even the developers admitted that the characters in Tekken 4 have less polys than in TTT, not to mention that it's painfully obvious. In addition to that, the more dramatic lighting in TTT really shows off things like Jin's muscles. T4's backgrounds are bigger and more interactive than TTT's, but they're pretty lifeless and boring. And I have played TTT and T4 side-by-side.

TTT's graphics are still pretty good. The textures are showing their age (especially the characters faces) but the over all image quality is still among the best on PS2.

Someone on TZ just posted this. Everyone should try it.

Go to options -> display settings -> scan mode and change it from soft (default) to sharp. Depending on your TV you may get a better picture. I definitely think the graphics have improved substantially on my TV. Everything is a lot clearer.

If you have a high-def TV or component cables you may find that soft looks better.

That's the first thing I did when I turned the game on. Looks a lot better on my TV, looks much more like the arcade.

A bunch of the endings are still funny, even after seeing them over and over. I love the thumbs up from Lee. I like how they pretty much stopped trying to take the non-Mishima stories seriously and just had fun with everyone else. Paul's new Dan Hibiki-esque attitude is great. I don't get Jinpachi though. Devil being the source of his powers is really confusing.

Is it devil though?
To me it seemed like he was possessed by some entity(he even tells Wang that). Plus when you beat it with Feng he drops the dragon scroll and when Feng picks it up the dragon goes into him.

Yeah, I didn't think it was Devil either. It doesn't look or fight like Devil and it doesn't really make sense for him to have Devil powers...but that's what it says. When Heihachi beats him Hei is like "devil blood or not, I'll still beat you!" and in Jinpachi's "ending" it says his mind was completely taken over by Devil.

So either Namco screwed up there or it is Devil and if it is Devil it opens up a lot of questions about how Devil works.

Well it is possible for some genes to be supressed. Hei probably does have the devil gene...remember back in Tekken 3? Ogre absorbed Hei to transform into True Ogre so there has to be something special about him. Its possible that Heihachi's devil gene never truly expressed itself.

If Hei has it, I'd think his scientists would have realized it, even if it hadn't activated.

I don't think Jinpachi was born with it, it seems to have came to him after he died in prison.

Hmm... you may be on to something. Perhaps it will activate itself in times of great stress (death being one of them). The same thing happened to Jin in Tekken 3. Heihachi shot him and he came back as Devil Jin.

A little off topic but wasn't Xiao's ending hilarious? She actually caused the one thing she tried to prevent (Hei throwing Kaz off the cliff). :lol :lol :lol

Tekken 5 is really fun, its no VF4 FUCKING EVO, but for T5, 1, 2, 3 and Starlancer, it was worth the money. The new characters are a lot of fun and the game seems to move more at the speed I can appreciate.

Tho that big guy, why does he shave his pits, its not consistent with his character.
