The Official "The Snitch (@insider_wtf)" Leaker Thread

Tom Henderson apparently also said he saw trailers that were ready for the show, but Sony intentionally held back from the show.

It's just a weird situation to be honest. They held their big showcase, something they hadn't done for more than a year and then intentionally hold them back? Why?

"It’s understood that a lot of the games we’re waiting on seeing are pretty much ready, so I’m not sure why Sony decided to wait this time around."

They waiting to see whats on the menu for microsoft.

I wouldn’t call it super weird I would call it incredibly stupid to withhold some bangers out of your first major showcase in two years

I can't get my head wrapped around it. What was the last (non-gaas, vr) game revealed for PlayStation first party? Wolverine? Almost two years since then and absolutely nothing. Yeah, it is stupid. Sheer incompetence. But nothing will change cuz Jim Ryan makes Sony money. PlayStation fans are stuck with this guy. Damn depressing.

Ok great, my hypes deflated now anyway. Announce the shit when its ready, don't need no stinkin state of plays or showcases to waste another hour.

So, to be clear: Sony's big 2023 showcase wasn't their actual showcase. Sony is actually going to hold another, bigger showcase a month or two from now where the real games are announced, after Microsoft has their conference? ...and how many times has this "secret second conference" happened in the past?

Xbox fanboys are clinging to legalese non-sense on twitter and Sony fanboys are inventing secret second E3 conferences, all while Nintendo fans are happily playing a game that looks like it came out in 2008. 2023 is wild.

To be fair, it wouldn't be the first time Sony held multiple major events in a year. Even just a few months apart. So it's not like there is no precedent. It just hasn't happened the last two years.

Historically speaking, Sony has always shown their hand after MS. Maybe they wanted to get stuff out of the way so their next “showcase” after Xbox/Bethesda will be the one to the heavy-hitters that will take away any spotlight Xbox gets…

…Or, they got nothing, which is highly improbable.

Just a thought.

You can't do that. You can't just go on the internet and kill everyone. :messenger_downcast_sweat:

I swear I wish Jim Ryan could be burned at the stake. I really hate that dude. How is it possible to be this stupid? At least Phil had a mess he had to clean up from Mattrick (and hasn't cleaned it up yet). Jim was given a top of the line Playstation and he's trying his best to blow it all up.

The only thing I can think of is that Sony wants to have another event. Maybe in August after MS' June showcase to one-up them?.......

I dont like to give these parasites attention, but on the off chance they are right, maybe they want to space out announcements through out the year. That way any remaining sop’s can each have one new first party game. Or maybe this showcase was mostly done to satiate third party contracts, and sony does not yet want to start spending money marketing on these games at least until spiderman is out?

I think the bolded is the real secret reason. Sony has always been good with 3rd party relationships and a corporate suit face like Jimbo would care more about 3rd party contracts and make a horrible show, then focus on the Playstation brand first and foremost.

How reliable is this Snitch?

Easily over 50%.

Why is it super weird that a PC port wasn't shown at the showcase?

Well the theory is that the last showcase was for the Playstation brand as a general media entity, sort of like the way MS have shifted away from talking about their current console so much as their overall offer, the constellation of products and services that emanate from their Xbox brands.

Its interesting that the only media commentator who seems to have picked up on Sony's goals is KingThrash, who despite his trollish image is one of the most astute Youtubers in terms of picking up on overall trends in the industry.

In simple terms both Sony and Microsoft are manoeuvring to leverage their strengths; MS obviously are all-in on the cloud as the central pillar of their commercial ambitions, whereas Sony are building off of the Playstation brand to create a new media and IP empire. One that connects back to the console ecosystem but also is a presence in movies, TV, hardware etc.

My guess is that the insiders saw trailers that were intended for Summer Games Fest. That's the only reasonable explanation I can come up with.

We know for a fact that we're going to see The Last of Us Multiplayer this year, but we don't know exactly when that's going to happen.

I’m of the belief that Sony are in no rush to show their arm. Showing games too early was not a good look for MS tbh. Yes it sucks, but it is what it is. Also, something that many don’t consider, is that allowing 3rd parties to showcase their games in such a way, without being upstaged by 1st party games, is a massive way to build relationships.

I think he's right. Him and Tom Henderson have been right before. Jimbo is having Sony acting SUPER weird lately. It's mind-boggling.
It's not that mind boggling that they're being tight lipped. The ABK deal is still not completely dead and I'm sure legal is paranoid.

It's best not to get too conspiratorial and think that Sony is playing 4D chess and doing a second showcase (the "real" showcase) after Microsoft. This is not how multi-billion dollar corporations operate. Sony shouldn't need to worry about what Microsoft is showing. If they're confident in their games and their games are ready to be shown, they will show them.

In terms of games Sony is publishing there's also Rise of the Ronin, Death Stranding 2 and The Last of Us Remake.

Maybe TLoU related news is saved for Summer Games Fest. They announced Part 1 there as well, so maybe Keighley is paying them for another exclusive World Premier.

When there is summer games fest and xbox’s stuff to come?

Maybe Sony decided to clear the filler now and keep their first party in reserve to counter any surprises from those two.

Or perhaps this is just to flush out the snitch so their agents can swoop in.

Since we're in third year of Sony releasing games on PC, we start to see trends. They seem to prefer releasing games during months around April and October. Summer months are traditionally considered a bad time to release games and especially June when the Steam Summer Sale starts and visibility suffers (also competition for $).

So I'd be a little bit surprised if they released something in June. Based on trends and best practices, I would guess they're going to release something August 13'th.

What's the implication here, they have one disappointing showcase, wait till Microsoft does their showcase, then have a second, balls-to-the-wall first party showcase to sandwich them out of news cycles and mindshare?
