The ongoing DCEU trash fire takes another turn…

Seven month delay for The Flash. That’s a very bad sign about what they have already in the can. Everything else delayed as well.

Scared of MCU, or reacting to the massive success of The Batman? Horrible test screenings for Flash? Executives rethinking the already terrible strategy?

What an absolute fucking garbage fire the DCEU is.

Kill it.

(Shrugs) I‘ve enjoyed Man of Steel, Wonder Woman 1, Aquaman, and Shazam. Thought The Batman was great. Thought Joker was excellent. And The Suicide Squad was my favorite movie of last year.

Only miss for me was first Suicide Squad and the theatrical cut of JL, and to a slightly lesser extent the theatrical version of Batman v. Superman as I do like quite a few things in it but it needed work (heard the extended cut fixes some issues). Still haven’t gotten around to Wonder Woman 2 and Snyder’s JL.

I doubt they’re scared of the MCU. Most of their movies have done well in the BO (and The Suicide Squad only did poorly in the BO due to the variant rearing its ugly head pretty much as soon as it released). I definitely want to see what’s in store for the future.

Movie delays are not always a reason to assume the absolute worst. But Internet gotta Internet (AKA immediately assume worst possible scenario) I guess.

Also, not everything was delayed, Shazam 2 was moved up.

Have you watched Birds of Prey?
It is on sky movies, I checked it out thinking I wouldn't like it, and ended up watching the whole film and really quite enjoying the movie.

I like it too. Margo Robbie is great. And I loved Ewan mcgregor as black mask. Sucks we won’t see him in anything else.

Oh, forgot that one. Yeah, it was pretty good. Only issues was Huntress should have been in it a bit more, and the kid pickpocket should have been an original name as the Cassandra Cain in the comics (who becomes the second Batgirl) is already a martial arts god even as a teen due to her strict upbringing by her father.

Look, I can't believe I'm going to say this but I think WB/DC is on fire in a good way. We just got The Batman and Peacemaker. We got Joker, and I actually enjoyed Suicide Squad 2. The Long Halloween animated movie was great.

I have no interest in the DCEU but I like that it's there for people who want it. The fact is, the DC portfolio is really starting to flesh out and if they can nail the two upcoming HBO Max shows.......damn.

If someone told me right now, to choose between the entire DC suite on HBO Max vs the entire Marvel suite on Disney+ (as in I can only have one).......I think I'm going DC.

Yeah, I never thought I'd say that but at this point the Marvel formula seems so stale in comparison to what we're getting with DC. If they are delaying things, or rescheduling or whatever so they can keep moving in this direction I am ALL IN.

Agree with all of this... but they should have killed off the failed shared universe movie bullshit a long time ago. Money, time and resources could have been put into much better stuff than some desperate Flash retcon movie. They are STILL trying to compete with Marvel. Even now. Pathetic.

Aquaman made over a billion dollars... I'm mad it's delayed. And Flash being delayed makes me think they're trying to avoid "DC is copying Doctor Strange 2!" Tweets when Flash's multiverse shenanigans was known before we even knew the name of Multiverse of Madness or No Way Home.

I'm glad we're still getting Black Adam this year and Shazam.

Part of me thinks the delays have to do with the Discovery merger this summer.

I don’t care about any of that.

The Batman sequel, now.
Joker sequel, now.
Wonder Woman sequel, now.
Superman reboot, now.

And Black Adam, I guess. Looks pretty cool.

Is DC Ok now? Snydercut was my last DC movie. I dont know if harley got 3rd season. That was show was lit. Batman seems nice. But with snyder cut being dead, and story having no cohesive, I stopped watching DC movies.

DCEU is definitely a mess. They can't seem to figure out what to do, they have multiple iterations of the same things in the fire at the same time. Some movies seem like they line up for something like Justice League, some movies are stadalones but perform so well I think execs are questioning whether they should be.

A. Huge. Mess.

Batman is my #1 Superhero, so I don't speak from an opponent perspective. I don't care too much for Marvel stuff, outside of maybe Spiderman or Xmen, but I haven't watched a Spiderman film since Toby played the part. I want the DC film landscape to do well. I think the curse is that cinematic universe isn't needed, they didn't need to try to follow the Marvel outline.

Batman is your head and shoulders leader, and his rouge gallery / bat-family is #2 in DC in front of literally everything else, Superman included. The more DC will acknowledge this the better they will be. Shazam was good, but that is because is didn't take itself serious. The rest... meh. Just doesn't land the same as Batman does. Wish they would give up on trying to big screen 99% of the other stuff and just focus on more Batman, plenty of uncharted territory left in the world's favorite caped crusader that has yet to be touched in the films.

It sounds like the executives over at DC/WB still can't settle on a unified vision. Unless these delays involve lots of reshoots that finally get them there in their main DCEU route.

So bloody annoying, they just released a trailer in January promoting their DC slate for 2022. And it makes zero sense to move Shazam 2 up to December to compete with Avatar, are WB idiots?

The DCEU isn't a total shambles and they can still work from what they've got.

*Man of Steel was really good.
*Batman v Superman was good but the extended/director's cut is much better.
*Suicide Squad was hot garbage, did not like it at all.
*Wonder Woman was an amazing experience in the cinemas but subsequent watches at home haven't been the same.
*Whedon JL was a shambles but Snyder's version is phenomenal, one of my favourite comic films.
*Aquaman was fun.
*Shazam was fun too.
*Birds of Prey I also found to be fun with some really cool action scenes. Cassandra Cain was totally miscast though.
The Suicide Squad was fine. It felt overly long and wasn't as good as Gunn's GOTG films. I feel as though if he was reeled in a bit and the script was tightened up it would have been better. Not every "R" rated joke is automatically funny just because it's gorey or vulgur.

As for the none DCEU films, I'm fine for them to keep doing them as well.
*Joker was great but I really can't and do not think of it as a comic DC movie at all. That was not the Joker on screen.
*The Batman was fecking phenomenal.

*EDIT*
Totally forgot about WW84, the film was somewhat fun while watching it but it really is a massive shit show of a film the more I think about it. Mandalorian should not have been in it. They should have focused on Cheetah only.

Avatar 2 is about Pandora’s oceans and Cameron filmed underwater again, this time with motion capture underwater. That’s way too similar to Aquaman.

I just don't think WB should put any movie in the same basic slot as Avatar 2. It's a very risky movie.
Shazam 1 made 366 million compared to Avatars 2 billion +. Who would want to go up against that? Movie might be dead on arrival.

Because it made 1.1 billion dollars.

Yes you read that correctly.

Doesn't mean its any good or i have to like it lol

It was way too long and boring, fell asleep watching it.

I'd put it on par with Eternals

So much content in your post to react to...

  • First of all, I love a good fire. Nice and toasty.
  • What's "in the can" is, as you say, "garbage," and should be thrown in the trash.
  • And lastly, though kinda sorta not really off-topic, the "massive success of The Batman" saddens me so. I weep for the loss of our taste buds as a species.

The most hilarious thing about DC is it's as if they sold their IPs piece meal to a bunch of different studios and each of them are making individual movies.

When it was Marvel that did that and yet thier movies are more cohesive.

Aquaman made over 1.2 billion dollars.
That's on par with Captain America Civil War, Black Panther and a stone's throw away from the first Avengers movie.

How the fuck anyone can think the movie won't get a sequel making that much money is beyond me 🤣🤣

The Batman sequel, now.
Joker sequel, now.

Let's hope not. Movies can just be movies, they don't need to be series, and these movies are better off as they are without being turned into tired cash grabs.

Wonder Woman already got a sequel and it was so bad I gave up and forgot what I'd even watched the next day.

I never felt a sequel desecrated a great movie. Terminator 2 still kicks ass, no questions asked.

But had we stopped at Terminator 1, the world would be a lesser place.

Unfortunately, we then got Terminator 3-6 and they were all steaming turds of varying degrees.

I'm talking out of my ass, The Dark Knight is the best Batman movie and it's a sequel, I just don't want to see Matt Reeves studio-pressured into making something he doesn't actually want to make.

Same here, brother

This argument that the DCEU is a mess I cant really comprehend, especially now that they are making wildly different projects with different directors

I actually loved Man of Steel. Not perfect, but damn fun movie with great cinematography and soundtrack (Hans Zimmer the GOAT) that could stand among the best of the MCU, imo

Wonder Woman was fine. Aquaman was mindless fun. Same with Shazam.

The Batman was great and Joker was a damn masterpiece (won an Oscar, ffs)

The Suicide Squad was a mess, but the James Gunn one was better than Guardians of the Galaxy, imo

And the Justice League from Zack was incredible

The only stinkers were Suicide Squad, BcS (theatrical), WW 2 and the original Justice League

I love what DC is doing by not having all the movies interlinked. That's why we have The Batman or Joker, or goofy fun with Aquaman and Shazam.

When they stoped trying to make a cohesive universe between movies and said "fuck it, just make a great movie" things started to improve considerably

I enjoy most of the Marvel movies, but they have too similar tone and feel, so now after many many years and dozens of movies, it became stale and predictable

Ever since Batman was a thing with Keaton... I wanted them to include the other heroes. But it never happened. I hate standalone movies where there are NO other heroes... Makes no sense. If there are other multiple superpowered villains, how are there no other superpowered heroes?

I'm retarded?
its why Im not going to the cinema to watch the new Batman. I get it, it's prolly good but just like Joker and knowing DC, this will never see a sequel and now we have Keaton batman and fuck knows how many other Batmans and theres just no continuity. Even if you consider the multiverse it's a fucking mess. At least Marvel redeemed themselves with Spiderman. Meh.

Both movies are rumored to get sequels. The Batman pretty much explicitely sets up a second film.

In short? Yes. It's just a matter of when. In an interview with ComicBook, The Batman producer Dylan Clark said, "I will go on record and say that it will be less than five years.” So we can safely book The Batman 2 for sometime between now and 2027.

Tucked inside The Hollywood Reporter‘s mammoth feature on “Hollywood’s Top 100 Attorneys” is an interesting nugget for fans of 2019’s controversial, yet highly lucrative Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix. In a blurb on power lawyer Warren Dern, THR reports that he inked a deal with Warner Bros. for Todd Phillips to “co-write the next Joker installment.”

With DC until its in theaters anything can go. Will see.

No it's not, everyone has differing opinions.

Thank you. Seriously, it had solid character arcs for the cast (who all delivered in their performances), extreme violence that was creative in its gore rather than just indulging in it, hilarious and often dark humor, a killer soundtrack that was used sparingly instead of shoved down your throat like the first SS, and they made a giant starfish a horrifying (like those experiments with the face being ripped apart were shit straight out of Alien) and yet also sympathetic antagonist.

Hell, I went in thinking I’d like it in a 8/10 estimate roughly because Gunn is a great director and the cast was stacked, but I never got into the SS comics much so I was surprised myself how much I loved it.

Didn't Matt Reeves sign a multi picture deal for The Batman?

Yeah... that's my point. You've mistaken me for a Marvel fanboy I think?

The only ones that come close to "movie of the year" praise would be films like The Dark Knight, Joker and maybe The Batman. Everything else is mindless drivel lol.
Lol, c'mon dude. Seriously?!

Logan was great. This is why when they inevitably make a new Wolverine movie I hope they take it seriously like the character has always deserved.
