The Order 1886 Gameplay Footage

You can be certain the reason why it's been changed is because people kept posting it everywhere, like this : http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=100504880&postcount=301
I don't really think SCEA found that kind of comment particularly amusing...

So now, SCEE has decided to go Youtube only, and I (and others of course) can't get into SCEA's press center anymore too. Beautiful.

Well, given that Sony marketing has been failing left, right and center with the Infamous:SS, MLB:The Show and The Order:1886 reveals, it would only be appropriate if they set themselves up for future fails by only providing Youtube videos and no longer supplying high quality video.

Bravo Sony! :P

First impressions are a big deal for us Gaffers. Luckily they're only first impressions. Here are some reactions from the first gameplay reveal of The Last of Us at E3 2012.
My favorite part was the cover shooting and heavily scripted gameplay sequences with minimal input required.
Man was that scripted as fuck. Hoping it's a little bit more open than what was shown.
Is it just me or does it seem incredibly linear and scripted?
That was way too scripted especially with the unavoidable hits.
It's hard to tell how much freedom you actually have in terms of playing the game.. it's kinda worrying.
Graphics are really amazing but I'm not sold on the gameplay. It's your regular QTE-fest, mixed with some RE. Or did I miss something?
Don't get me wrong, it isn't bad, but I've played that zillion times now :/
I can't really make a judgement on the game based on this "demo". Graphically, the game looks great. But everything looks scripted.
A health bar and ammo indicator? A little ham-fisted for a game that puts so much emphasis on cinematic immersion etc etc.
Looks drab and unimpressive. I literally fast forwarded through most of the 3 minutes of gameplay because I just didn't care. Also plays just like another shooter I guess, how innovative.

This honestly just shows how fickle Gaf is.

That really puts things in perspective on first impressions.

How so? The game showed the way that the game showed and a lot of those complaints are pretty valid for that showing, but it turned out to be a great game anyway. It could just as easy have showed extremely well and turned out to actually be bad.

People can only judge what they're being shown at the time. It doesn't make them "wrong" if the game actually turned out to be really good after the fact.

And those impressions were pretty true at the time. That E3 demo was very scripted and a lot of the stuff in it isn't in the final game.

Like what? If you are silly enough to shoot at an enemy with an empty magazine, he will notice and react. Enemies will retreat if they are unarmed and you point a gun at them.

You just don't get to see that stuff because you'll usually kill them a lot quicker.

How about TitanFall is genuinely exciting to watch and is a rather fresh take on a stale genre, and The Order, while amazing looking, seems to add absolutely nothing of substance to another stale genre?
I don't care about TitanFall (I don't play shooters, especially multiplayer, and technically it's quite bad), and I was truly intrigued by The Order. After seeing the various videos today, I'm still very interesting in the setting and obviously in the graphics, but in terms of gameplay it just seems to be "me too" and nothing more. So yeah, it's a big disappointment for me.

Have you played Titanfall for a long period of time? It's fun. I've said this over and over. It's fun. But it's not bringing anything new. It's bringing some elements of several games into one game, ranging from the movement of Brink to the AI units of Battlefield 1942.

Gears of 1886 then? Am I doing it rite?

Yep, wouldn't be The Order thread if we didn't run in circles for a 1000 posts.

I am amped for the game, because I think it is being very reductive to call this a generic cover shooter with QTEs, and I know there is still a lot we haven't seen. Like the crime scene stuff, exploration, puzzles demonite mentioned, or even a monster encounter.

I am surprised that it took them so long. Not too long ago, the same account was shared on reddit and it had almost the same password, i have no idea why it got closed now. I reckon this account was quite old and has been known for years.

-can you guys come up with a password?
nay
-well, the current password is so awesome, I can't think of anything better. We'll leave it like that, even if some people out of the media sector know it

*people mock the Jurassic password*

-now you've done it.

Sony fans: looks amazing

Microsoft/nintendo/pc fans: looks boring

Multi-console owners: looks interesting, will keep an eye on it.

It's titanfall in reverse. Except that in both cases nintendo fans feel sad.

We can only judge a game based on what they show us and what they Showed of The Order today was pretty disappointing to a lot of people. Doesn't mean I don't hope they turn it around and show me something amazing next time. But until they do I'm judging it based off of what I'm shown.

why exactly does everyone feel the need to judge things that require first hand experience from a 5 minute long reveal trailer?

Why are there such large disparencies in the graphics between cutscenes and gameplay?

I disagree. It was just a horrible reveal. I don't understand the choice of trailer at all. It showed amazing graphics. But if it's not fun then it doesn't matter.

This is a PS3 (to be PS4 owner), WiiU/PC owner.

I don't understand how judging this game to be a GOTY contender is OK, but losing some hype because of a lack of any significant gameplay is seen as crazypants. You have to take the good with the bad and just let people have their first impressions.

Because people are judging a game's entire style based on practically no footage. We've seen about 15 seconds of gameplay, and people are already using words like "scripted" "QTE-fest" "Uncharted clone" "just another third person shooter", etc. And I'm with you about the lack of gameplay footage. I have said many times in this thread, this was a HORRIBLE gameplay reveal. They didn't show anything, least of all the big selling points (like soft-body physics). I get frustrated by the people getting so down on the gameplay when we have seen next to nothing from it. I would be equally frustrated if people kept saying the gameplay looks amazing, but guess what? Nobody's saying that.

All I feel we can safely talk about is the visuals, which is about the only judgements and opnions I have brought forth on the footage.

Except people who are positive about it are saying it looks VISUALLY amazing, and the people down on it are saying the gameplay is boring. We've seen a lot of the visuals. We've seen next to nothing of the gameplay.

So the game video shows one section in an alleyway and it's being called a corridor shooter.

The game has some QTE sections that have multiple choices yet it's getting called an interactive movie.

Honestly, there are some complete numb nuts on the net.

Also people claiming there is nothing next gen from this game, what exactly do you expect from next gen? There will still be the genres we already have, gameplay that has been used, what else do you think gameplay can evolve/go to?

Some people think next gen has to be the second messiah to be worth buying.

character doesn't talk, uninteresting weak main character. Sidekick much more entertaining.

-portal 2.

If you dumb down games based on genres, that's the kind of answer it deserves.

The cutscenes themselves are very movie-like, and it seems like players will have a certain degree of control.

I've never seen The Shawshank Redemption before. Can someone explain to me what's going on in this scene? Seems awfully random.

Titanfall at least had preview/journalists going "WHOO THIS IS AMAZING"

Most of the previews so far have an air of "Yeah its pretty, but I'm not sure if its good game or not? Its pretty though"

I can certainly understand being frustrated over just how little actual gameplay was shown, but the rush to judgment about this being just another TPS makes no sense to me at all. Certainly I think they should've shown more but there is no way to make anything even remotely resembling a conclusion based off what was shown. Let's let it play out and see.

I will state that, based on what little was shown, this game has the best console graphics I've ever seen.

There are no disparencies in the graphics between cutscenes and gameplay. Cutscenes are real-time.

It's made me go from pretty damn interested in this game to not caring at all :/. Gameplay looked boring and generic. I'll still give it a chance for when more gameplay and info comes out but I'm pretty disappointed.

Well on first impressions; graphically it looks pretty nice. Love the setting too.

Gameplay wise, what they've shown there looks kinda generic. Could be "Uncharted: 1886" based on that footage. Let's hope the rest of the game strays from the formula some more.

I'm such a sucker for graphics! Gameplay looks good enough for me to enjoy this immensely. Sure it's a cover based shooter but I love them and this one looks absolutely next gen. Excitement is at 10 now!

Makes perfect sense to me. Who wouldn't want to point attention to an awesome dickbutt mural if you had someone in your office?

That picture is most defiantly not in the movie. It's some biblical quote on the wall or something to that effect.
You and me have definitely not watched the same Shawshank. Why the hell would it be some biblical quote? That's just silly.

I think you meant to say why aren't there. There are none as the cutscenes are real time and you can manipulate elements in them...

Yes I wish they were making an open world platformer, preferably a collect a ton. That would be so great.

Graphics look the same to me, but I expect you to explain why I'm clinically blind.

While I agree the trailer wasn't amazing from a reveal stand point I think it is our own fault and media's fault for hyping it so much. Once you start to think about the timing of this trailer and the fact GDC, E3, Gamescom, TGS, PAX, Comic Con are all between now and release it makes sense why so little was shown. There are plenty of opportunities to show much much more. Blowing their load in February doesn't make sense in hindsight.

What it does do brilliantly is keeping the game fresh in our thoughts and creating discussion.

Makes me question the validity of user comments like these without actual research to back up their confirmation bias. Sorry to break it to you but the entire game is running in real-time. Some of the "cutscenes" you decry about actually have *gasp* interactive elements in it! Imagine that? A gameplay graphics has discrepancy on gameplay graphics!

Well, I repeat my initial impressions. I don't get the hype for this game in terms of what they are showing (graphics/gameplay). I honestly think Beyond Two Souls looks better apart from things like tessellation and texture resolution.

It does look like Gears of War as mentioned but somehow not as interesting (gameplay), seems a waste of the environment. Although wouldn't be hard to have the better story, characters and such.

Doesn't matter if I don't think its the greatest looking or the best gameplay, if it has an interesting story and well developed characters then it could be something special as the setting is very cool.

Sylistically it looks interesting. Visuals aside it looks completely interchangable with every other FPS that channels the player down a linear and scripted experience.
