The Order 1886 Gameplay Footage

TLOU was designed to mostly be combat with ebbs and flows between the combat moments. Puzzles were minimal. I'd say easily 80% combat. People who spend a lot of time exploring nooks and crannies and appreciating every bit of the world really can't be factored in here, developers can put that stuff in the world but they can't expect to include it as an expectation that the regular player will spend a lot of time exploring and finding ones and backstory etc.

Indeed, and RAD likely drew a large amount of inspiration from what I see as their mentors (SSM and ND), especially with the breakaway success of TLoU.

Stealth can be considered combat. So as I was saying...I spent more time exploring than in combat.

All I'm saying is The Last of Us has some serious downtime in between the action so his theory that cinematic games need to throw you from one action segment to the next is flawed.
We must've played a different game. Or our definition of exploring isn't the same. There was opportunity for heavy combat in most, if not every chapter, whether it was hand to hand, gun fire, or stealth. Perhaps its how well Naughty Dog blended them together what makes it "seamless". Which is exactly the type of experience that...*cough* RAD is attempting to deliver to us with The Order 1886.

That's true for the later parts of Summer and Winter maybe, but the outskirts, the entirety of Fall and Spring only had very few instances of combat.

The dude has made 32 posts, is the third highest poster on this whole thread, and he all heis doing is repeating the same damn thing over and over about how its just a TPS and that is so disappointing to him. 32 fucking posts of that and I'm somehow the problem for calling him out on it. He's polluting the thread with pages of constantly repeated complaints.

EDIT: and now he's banned so clearly I wasn't the only one who had a problem with it.

He was posting a little excessively, but I still don't think it's right to tell to him to "move the fuck on" especially when other posters (yes, you included) are prodding him to post more.

I really don't understand the people coming in here with the "So it's a TPS with QTE's?" posts. When the game was first revealed, there were guns and shooting prominently displayed, so why be surprised when there is shooting and taking cover shown? If you are dismissive of the game after what you saw today, then you should have been dismissive when it was first shown, because we still haven't seen much more than we did at E3. And all the drive by shit posts really need to be dealt with, because they add absolutely nothing to the discussion, and these people only care about pushing the buttons of other posters.

It's time to bring on second person shooters, or SPS's as they are more often known as.

Well when people like you keep pestering him to explain himself, chances are that he will continue to keep posting.

Guys, I keep coming in here to see if the topic or the related debates are moving forward in any meaningful way, only to find people bickering with each other. Let's discuss the posts and not the posters. Please? :)

He probably got banned because he needlessly insulted another user.

If you watch that Escapist interview, Ru says they chose to show what they did because they didn't want to feature combat/shooting because other games have done that in their gameplay reveals. I wonder if that was his decision alone, because that mentality is totally disconnected from the people who are paying attention to his game right now. The writing for both the E3 trailer and new trailer is also a bit underwhelming/generic.

This. Just try to ignore the idiot posts that are obviously looking to rile others up...

This game really is right up my alley (eh? Get it?! Meh). I like games with a little substance but I also like a well presented linear game too, no shame in that. Even the QTEs look dope. I'm not going to lie though, if I didn't like it I probably wouldn't bother voicing it today. Some of this thread is kind of ugly.

I thought it was for playing the "Hive Mind" card. Sure, a portion of GAF may simultaneously splooge for a game when the stars line up but it's never enough to generalize. Generalizations are a no-no.

With the way this director throws out the term "emergent gameplay" without really giving any examples of anything resembling it, I honestly wonder what's up with this guy.

Not really. There were more quiet moments as the game wore on but that's just juxtaposed against the moments of the game that were almost 100% combat. Even then the exploration was minimal. TLOU took me 20+ hours because I did stuff like watch the rain effect on windows and looked in every single room possible. But I wouldn't expect Naughty Dog to call it a 20 hour game if the average person takes 15 hours. Same goes for this percentage debate, if you're shooting right through TLOU then combat is easily 80% of your time

That is... Odd. Why even make a shooter if you're not compelled to push it as the compelling feature

Well I'll say that I certainly didn't wait this long to see a guy stare at a gun from a crate that long. Seriously, I haven't read the whole thread but what was up with how long he stared at that gun? It must be user controlled, like you can look at it and inspect in until you see fit to press a button and move on. In which case I would probably look at it for a long time too, because it looks awesome. But not taking up precious seconds in a limited trailer! I want to see more! The wait is going to be torture.

Man they finally put The Order videos up on PSN!

But then they go and make it where you can't full screen the video and it is the e3 trailer lol.

What are you doing to me Sony!

Can find it in PSN / games / coming soon / auto-plays from the window

I'm guessing there is a huge disconnect from what he does on a daily basis and what eventually trickles down to us, but it's baffling at times. If you're not ND, seems like Sony gets interns to handle the marketing.

They release that E3 trailer again.

Agreed. I played thru it 3 times, the last of which being on easy mode to speed run. I was shocked at how much more combative it felt.

I felt more like a Rambo version of Joel. I might even venture to say that Uncharted has more "exploration" than TLOU.

Edit: actually, Uncharted definitely does have more exploration looking back on it.

Watched the videos, read the comments.

Am I to assume "looking like Gears of War / Uncharted" is derogatory?

For some, probably. For others just an observation. Like, "COD with mechs and wall-jumping". For some it's a diss. For others it sounds like a good time. I liked Gears and UC so I can't wait.

Agreed. My original post was meant to get things back on subject not get off track again.

As far as the subject at hand goes, has there been any official comment as to why the gameplay revealed was so limited?

Frankly, I love what I have seen so far and the tech and stuff that these guys use is amazing. There was a siggraph talk last year that showed off a bunch of their physically based rendering stuff and the way the artists composite and layer materials. You can check it out at the link below, the pdf has a bunch of slides with some fantastic shots of their material rendering and physics engines. Also a video of how they scanned base materials. GLORIOUS stuff at work here! I can't wait to see the finished product.

What I'm asking is... after months ot hype, no shows, "not ready yet"s and "soon"s, we get... this? Why bother?

Unless this is a clever ploy to lower our expectations for the real reveal, it's just so underwhelming. I was all about being blindly excited after the first reveal. This glimpse? Not so much.

I'll be all over the game come release or after more details emerge, but this is such a puzzling reveal as it doesn't do anything.

Edit: for the record, I'm not sick of these types of games at all. This reveal, one that is supposed to generate hype and interest, isn't selling me a PS4.

Well, perhaps. But there is a significant difference between Infinite and TLoU in the amount of shooting. Maybe it is 99% vs. 80% I dunno, but from the way things felt TLoU had less than 80%. They were at least some sections where even with running through there was no combat for about 30 minutes straight, unless you were doing a speedrun of course. I somehow feel The Order will be more combat heavy. Who knows though.

graphics look amazing, gameplay on the other hand looks downright terrible. Don't really care if it's 4K resolution at 120fps, that looked dull as hell.

They release that E3 trailer again.

Maybe I caught it too soon and they will have it in the main games section where you can full screen the download.

I watch those Destiny videos regularly. Always wanted to watch The Order on my TV but was not yet on PSN. Then they it up with the old trailer and no full screen lol.

Some old gameplay details from GI:
  • Familiar gadgets are featured in the game; Galahad is shown speaking into a "bulky but functional" communicator
  • Combat follows the third-person shooter formula
  • Galahad moves from cover to cover, firing shots from his semi-automatic pistol
  • Galahad pistol whips an enemy, showing off a simple close-quarters melee attack
  • When a surprise enemy attacks, a more complicated melee system described as a "unique variation on the familiar quick-time event" is shown
  • Galahad's experience allows him to predict how different actions play out, so players can move the camera to different objects and interaction points to dictate how the character engages his enemy
  • Weapons are "unusual and surprising"
  • The feature mentions a "multi-purpose combo gun" and a "lightning-spewing arc gun"
  • Many of the weapons are prototypes, so feel a bit of "wild and dangerous"
  • The Thermite Rifle fires condensed aluminium iron oxide that scatters into shards, making enemies cough. After several shots a super-hot flare is fired into the clouds igniting them
  • During an escape sequence, Galahad and Percival come across an injured man and drags him into a building, the camera zooms in close and the player is still fighting off rebels while the sequence of saving the man continues to play out, this is one of the game's "interactive cinematic moments"

Sounds to me the QTA is only for special moments.

How does RaD have an amazing track record if all they did was develop PSP games? Of course I'm gonna cut them some slack.

Is developing PSP games somehow bad or something? People love those God of War games and Daxter has sold over 2 million copies and has an 85 metacritic score.
