The Order 1886 Gamescom Gameplay Trailer

What I got from that IGN gameplay video that I hadn't seen before.

Repeat.

Jesus that looked boring as hell. Why a cutscenes every 2 minutes? Everything feels claustrophobic and the a.i isn't dynamic at all. I'm basically going to be buying just for the eye candy ala Ryse. They have yet to show us what distinguishes their from the hundreds of Uncharted and Gears wannabes. Weapons look cool though.

Where are all these games?

I've repeatedly seen people suggest that this is yet another third-person cover-shooter in a long line of third-person cover-shooters, but I'm struggling to count more than a handful of top quality franchises in the past decade... none of which are remotely similar in terms of feel, play-style or tone.

From the arcadey nature of Gears of War, to the verticality of Uncharted, to the emphasis on stealth and melee combat in The Last Of Us. They are all incredibly different, with different design philosophies, strengths and weaknesses.

Real cover-based third-person shooters are few and far between. In fact the only other titles I can think of are Ghost Recon, Army of Two (which is now dead) and Spec Ops (which will probably never get a sequel). I'm not sure I'd call the market over-saturated.

1886 has branching QTEs, investigation areas, supernatural enemies and a whole host of crazy weaponry. Not to mention it is set in a Victorian London governed by an elite order of immortal knights with modern day technology. It's already a unique game.

I'm afraid people looking for reinvention of how we fire a gun are going to be disappointed, but that doesn't mean it can't be great.

I often feel like people who do not recognise the intricacies of a genre equate all games within it to the same experience. Apparently the first-person shooter genre has been done to death but go play Call of Duty, Halo and Wolfenstein and aside from the act of shooting a gun, tell me how similar they are...

PS. This isn't an attack on you friend, just a general view.

Looks amazing but those black bars waste like a third of the screen... is going to be so annoying.

About gameplay, yeah it looks generic but this is just a demo. If somehow I remove from my memory my time with The Last Of Us and someone show me, for example the part of the floating wooden planks I would say "WTF IS THIS SHIT?", or Uncharted 2, the first action part I would get bored pretty easy.

A full game is much more and I'm still interested in this.

A person on reddit claimed this barely looked better than last gen games.... I'm not sure what he is looking at. The visuals are ridiculous.

Was kinda interested in this months ago, but now I see it's a muddy cover shooter, I don't care much.

lol they literally could've made any genre with a game starring Telsa

I'd like to know how open the game is. If it's mostly corridor driven well I've had enough of those. From what I've seen so far graphics looks nice but gameplay nothing new although it's certainly looking more polished. I'll wait for the reviews on this one, it's not a pre-order yet.

If we collated everything stupid anyone on here or Reddit said and read each one for 1 second, it'd take 5 billion years to read them all.

Game looks great, I hope it matches up to the appearance and that RAD have a good seller.

Im curious as to what has changed about this game over the last couple months that just now it looks like a muddy cover shooter?

What does Tesla have to do with what kind of genre the game is? I don't understand what you are saying.

Answers to all generic based questions on The Order 1886:

Until the game gets released or we get a full hands on preview there's no way to really know. There is too much assumptions being made and people are prematurely jumping to conclusions here on some out of context gameplay scenes.

dude doesnt even care about the game he's looking at himself for christ sake

Is this a serious post? Any number of things could be going on to the left of the screen. So sorry his eyeballs aren't glued to the video game he's playing for five seconds out of the hours and hours of video games he's been playing the last few days.

...I respect the developer's decision, but I still feel this would have been a good opportunity to make a coop game.

They say they want to create interesting weapons, how much more interesting would it be if those weapons worked in conjunction with each other to increase damage 2 or 3 times for example.

So that would be No Man's Forum....?

I agree, the game looks gorgeous. Not saying the game needs it, but did they state why it won't have co-op nor MP outside of "We're trying to make an SP experience you will enjoy"?

My guess is that its their first home console IP and they don't have the experience or resources? Thats my guess. I bet if it sells well and we get a sequel we will see MP/co-op.

Just by the way he plays that game shows that all would not go well with the review score if he were to release it.

Its the exact same demo he played at E3. None of the new stuff from the Gamescom trailer was included so its the same old build. He was probably disappointed that there was nothing new.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a co-op mission or even multiplayer pop up in the sequel or even as sooner as dlc. Of course it all depends on the success of the title.

With the focus on non-interactive cinematics because they love their storytelling choices so much, I imagine that co-op would be a terrible experience given how intermittent control would be over your character. Just that they're focusing on single player despite having a group of heroes on the scene seems to me that they're very committed to the viewer and not player end of things.

Totally agree. I think it would have helped it stand out and reduce a lot of the "generic" accusations.

Graphically it is absolutely jaw dropping and I really like the setting and genre but I'm still yet to see anything that makes me think that I'll need to play the game.
Sure if I had a PS4 already I'd probably buy the game just for the eye candy but this game doesn't make me want to go out and buy a PS4... Which is a shame because I'm waiting for an excuse to justify buying one.

Indeed, it feels like such a missed opportunity.

Hopefully they'll implement that in a sequel if it gets one, I appreciate the narrative focus but coop could do some cool things mechanically as well as extend it's replay value.

LOL, he is the only game I've that actually showed a grenade death scene in this trailer. That's some horrendous aiming abilities right there. He's so bad the game literally used a compass guide pointing to where he should shoot. Something, I've never seen in past previews. Magical arrow queues in a linear game like this?

plus i'm pretty sure Colin is going to review this.

I know, I was just making up pessimistic scenarios.

A couple of months ago, all we had was a prerendered trailer. How was I supposed to know it was going to be a cover shooter?

Also, Telsa did a lot more than make weaponry. They had a lot of options instead of making boring shooter #34059

We had gameplay for quite awhile now,and we knew it was a 3rd person shooter frorm day one.

At E3 2013, even without any gameplay trailers, they already said that the game will be a linear, story-driven TPS.

Any confusion on your end is simply because you never caught up with news on The Order last year.

As opposed to boring platformer #234,278

What's up with this casual dislike of shooters?

The bars are a non issue to me. I can't comprehend how it's THAT big of a deal to anyone.

There are people that complain about bars on films. "I've paid for a 64" TV and only 57" are being used, what the fuck!".

This is no different. The people that can't understand why films are shot like that can't understand this either, or just claim it was chosen so that they could push more graphics despite the fact that they could just scale the image like so many other games do if that were the case.

The resolution debate itself does annoy me though.

Wasn't following this thing closely, but after seeing this trailer I'll get it day one.

I used to play games on an old tube-TV until 1 1/2 years ago, needless to say that I don't mind the black bars at all.
Playing on a 46" full HD screen now I'm really looking forward to the visual experience of this (wished the game offered 3D support).

Gameplay wise it's going to be a 3rd-person-cover-shooter with combo weapons (blow back "shotgun" + MG for example), challenging enemies to use them on, stealth elements and riddles to solve?
That sounds pretty awesome to me, surely it's not reinventing the wheel, but far
^3
from disappointing?
Serious question: What were the gaffers so critical in response to these mechanics expecting?

I was expecting this game just as a good TPS really, like a new Gears of War competitor. But the overall impressions about the gameplay, that is very important on a game of the genre, is really bad.

Visually it looks stunning, but gameplay wise I'm now a bit skeptic. Hope it deliver's though.
