The Perfect Controller

Thrustmaster Top GUN
topgun.jpg

Best flight stick i ever had. I was amazed how good it worked, felt solid and heavy, i used it for 8 years and it still works great, and it only cost be 20 or 30 bucks. The only sticks that were better were the expensive FLCS. I cry when i see the new TOP GUN sticks.

2 amazing analog sticks
4 great buttons
big, good Dpad
4 shoulder buttons
COMFORTABLE
WIRELESS
TILT

Looks good, but I'd rather see two triggers and two shoulders instead of four shoulders.

Can't find any larger images of it. I have one at home (posting from work).

yes, it does have 4 shoulder buttons .

Basically fits the OP, except it doesn't have that nice thin and remarkably solid design that the dual shock controller has. After minimal abuse, the analog sticks are now off-center and impossible to calibrate. they never were that good to begin with.

I miss the dual shock's dpad too (that or a slightly thinner snes dpad).

I recently ordered one of those two-controller smartjoy things from liksang for my ps2 controllers. Dual-shock is probably the best controller in existance right now.

The Sega Genesis 6-button really was perfect. I was using it the other day, and there's no doubt in my mind.

Are some of you people actually putting the Genesis 6 button above the Japanese Saturn pad?

I heard that there were some lag issues with these controllers. True? I was going to pick one up while I was in Japan, but then decided against it.

Could only be improved by adding a second analog stick. which
MS tried to do with Xbox 1 and failed miserably.

I dunno. I didn't have as much a problem with this one as many others did but I found the VMU concept silly and gimmicky. The memory card in the controller idea was swell and the ports themselves are a fine idea, but having to pay extra for a rumble pack was dumb. The D-Pad felt off as well, especially after Sega was known for having the best dpads. The wire position and the slot to hold the wire were also lame.

A lot of small complaints hold the DC controller from being amongst the best. Also, it felt light and cheap unless you have a rumble pack and memory card plugged in.

The 360 controller s we have today is a fine evolution on the concept, but it still has problems.

No one will ever design the perfect controller (the 360 one still has issues - but we're getting there) and TP options always suck - I dont care for the logitech wirless options at all.

I'm curious: Would it be possible to take a GC controller, take out the left analog stick, open another GC controller, and replace the C Stick with the good one? Or even replace the GCs horrible D pad with something like the Genesis pad? I know some modding would be required but I'm just curious if it would be possible.

Why'd this thread have to start while I was at work?

I've always found it amusing that the vast majority of Gaffers hate the PSX seperated D-Pad, and love the Sautn style disc type. I hate disc and cross D-Pads with a passion, and I have always decalred the PSX D-Pad as the best ever.

I suppose that most would retort that they find the disc type D-Pads superior for fighting game input, but, obviously, that's not a dilemma that I ever let myself face.

Can someone explain why the power glove was so bad? I never got to try one and I'm curious just what was so bad about it?

Yeah man, the powerglove WAS the baddest! No one can define it!

I'm almost sure it is possible. One time I took apart a GCN controller, and took out the control stick(it was damaged) and replaced it with a C-stick, so I had a dual C-stick controller. :lol I tried RE4 with it, and it was a joke how tough it was to aim. But yeah, the socket for the c-stick is about the same size as the control stick, so it would probably work. Changing the D-pad would be tough, and require a lot of work.

thank me later.

You know what? I really like that. Six face buttons, the Xbox concave analog sticks (the best, imho) and the Saturn d-pad. Keeping with the Dual Shock 2's analog buttons, that would definitely be awesome.

anyone try this one? I always wanted to..

Anyone have a picture of the controller for RPG's that looks like a remote.

Can I still get my hands on this? it would like nice with my ibook.
theyve been out of stock/production for a while now. i saw an ebay auction a few weeks (months?) ago for the whole puyo puyo mac package. wouldve gotten it but it was like $70 and another $30 or so to ship from japan. if you want the look, theres a white ps2 saturn pad which you could hook up to a usb adapter i guess (although from the pictures ive seen, the colors look a little different, not sure if it was cause the picture or controller).

havent heard about lag. only thing ive really heard about is the feel might be a little lighter, but im not really sure on that, and for all i know it could be something about comparing a new pad vs an old ass saturn pad.

and nothing really to add, other than the gb micro pad kicks ass. best one since the saturn. the rev 'classic shell' thingy(s) better use the same one.

Only chocolate covered raisins are as delicious.

QFGJ. I've argued this point so many times, but sadly few of us are enlightened enough to be true NegCON apologists. It's the ultimate racing controller! I buy PS2 versions of multi-system games just cause they can be played with the NegCON.

SHAME ON YOU fOR NOT PUTTING NEGCON SUPPORT IN THE BURNOUT SERIES, CRITERION

I still don't understand what Nintendo was thinking with the button layout.
If you think about it, it makes more sense then the traditional four-button layout. Your thumb has access to all the buttons around the A Button instantly, unlike the PS controller. That is, you can press A+B, A+X or A+Y on the GC controller, but only X+Circle and X+Square on the PS without getting your index finger in on the action. Nintendo figured you're going to be mostly pressing one button in most games anyway, so why not make it nice and big?

That looks a lot like the Neo-Geo Pocket Color controller stick/pad thingy.

Truthfully, I don't like how the two bumpers are positioned. They kind of feel like Cubetroller Z Buttons, like an optional button instead of an actual gameplay button like the Dual Shock's 1 buttons.

360 controller would be perfect if you switched the positions of the d-pad and left analog...and made the d-pad not suck. i'd also prefer face buttons with flat surfaces.

I think this is the first time I have ever heard anyway say they prefer the left analog stick where the PS2 currently has it.
I think that is one of two mistakes that were made with the PS2 controller. The location of the left analog and the texture of the analogs. Nothing like sliding off they controller. Ugh.

Ok, don't react until you've read my thoughts.

The Wavebird is great, but the joypad is difficult to use. I honestly don't think it's an issue of the SIZE of the joypad, but the fact that the left "handle" of the controller is between your palm and the joypad. If that "handle" could either swivel out of the way or be removed, I'm honestly conviced it would be rather easy to use. Whenever I try to use the joypad, my problem is always the fact that my hand can't comfortably hold the "edge" of the joypad area.

i actually think the left analog works equally well in either position. but i can't stand using a d-pad in the lower position -- the angle throws me off completely.

Chalk me up as somebody who prefers the "d-pad upper, analog lower" style of the Dual Shock. To me, the analog stick feels the same in either position, but the d-pad feels better being higher up and directly across from the buttons.

Oh, if only somebody would bring out a gamepad like this for the PS2... I'd gladly pay Stupid Amounts of Money (tm) for it. Ahh, a man can dream... *wistful sigh*

Dear God,
thank you for this thread and another opportunity to see/think/mention bacon. Also I want this controller to be real one day. And can you put Newsradio on Nick@Nite please?
