The Player 1 Podcast Topic

I think we're almost always positive when it comes to talking about games--because we're all pretty good at this point about choosing games we know we'll like. We're maybe less positive when it comes to some of the things that surround games, but, ehh, some of that stuff sucks.

Last week, for example...

Positive:
Castle Doombad
Ratchet & Clank Into the Nexus
To the Moon Holiday Special
Dragon’s Dogma

Mostly positive:
Knack
Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 1

Negative:
Don’t Starve

Pretty decent ratio.

Castle Doombad is cool. It's a fun Orcs Must Die clone, wasn't expecting that. I'm surprised Mike likes it so much though since it's just a tower defense game.

Anyone that talks about the Sega Master System and doesn't mention California Games? Tsk, tsk, tsk. 4 new names for my bad books*.

I was an awesome episode and a fantastic idea as a change of pace, Chris. Granted, though, it seemed like 4 old men sitting around and talking fondly about games that they loved, and (in most cases) still do. That shouldn't be taken as a criticism, either. I wish I had friends that I could do the same thing with. Thank you to yourself, Kevin Larrabee, Bill Mudron, and Rich Grisham for a lovely two hours of discussion.

*Yes, yes, yes. I was one of those children that had a Master System**.

**Don't worry, though. The next generation I made the correct choice and got a SNES.

CJ seems a lot more confident when he doesn't have three dudes picking on him for an entire episode.

Was it Bill who said he quit Dark Souls after ringing the two bells? I know he said he had his fill of the game, but damn that's not even really close to the halfway point.

I am 28... I guess I am old now. Glad you enjoyed it!

Yeah, CJ sounded invigorated and interested and not on the defensive. I liked that.

The whole show was good. Mudron's like a mini-Wombat, it's pleasant to hear. I definitely understand the previous poster who mentioned the negativity - it's a kind of...snarky environment that wasn't here in this episode, it was 3 (or 4 if you count CJ) putting their best foot forward and it felt like it. Great stuff. I still miss Mike though.

I still have my Gameboy Camera, no printer though. Funny thing is I recently found one of the printed pictures from that thing in my Sega Nomad carrying case.

I understand negative feedback ain't received well in this thread and other fan-club threads around here but god damn this latest episode was just the worst. Fist quarter was a corny circle jerk and everything after that was the mud-guy just being dumb and talking way too much.

I normally listen to a regular episode of P1P about 3-4 times a week as background noise but this episode was just so awkward an... fuck I can't even.

EDIT: Still happy that CJ got to do what he probably enjoyed quite a bit and I'm sure so did the majority of the listeners but fuck shit damn I need to be more careful from now on in regards what I subject my brain to.

Yeah it sounds like an episode I won't like and am not real excited to listen to it. Of course I will though because Rich Grisham.

I started it on my commute and I'm only halfway through, but I'm enjoying it. All three of those dudes are really good, bright guests. And CJ does sound really relaxed and upbeat.

Gotta beat that the fuck out of him next week.

All you have to do is start the podcast with the negative Nintendo news that they tried not to talk about. That'll do it.

I thought it was a great episode. If this was secretly a way to introduce your audience to 3 exciting new co-hosts before shit canning those 3 bums who've been holding you back, it was a brilliant plan.

I don't think it will cause any permanent damage to your brain, so don't sweat it too much.

I don't get why people act like the press is so negative. The only thing the press really hates is their audience. And its not even that the press dislikes the Wii U, they just love the opportunity to play amateur CEO (see this week's Weekend Confirmed). The P1P isn't all that positive either, they were the only ones criticizing Bioshock Infinite when everyone else was debating if it should go in the Louvre or Smithsonian

Okay episode but I found the questions a little too predictable. First gaming memory? Check. What got you into the industry? Check. Nintendo or Sega? Check. I'll die a happy man if I never have to heard another story about how mom/dad came home with a game system one day and it was so awesome (because presents usually aren't awesome as everyone knows)

In other news I subbed to the fitcast after this episode! 2014 is the year I go from overweight to still overweight but with a surprising amount of fitness knowledge!

You have a lot of back episodes to check out, let me know if you have any questions.

Really fantastic show, all of the guests were great. Sounds like I need to check out Back in my Play.

Also, thanks to Kevin I have Bloody Tears stuck in my head and will for the rest of the day. Not that that's a bad thing.

I was hoping CJ would play the outro music backwards as well. Booooo

Good episode--really enjoyed it, even if my glasses aren't nearly as rose-tinted as it seems 75% of yours are. :P

I did think about it, but it didn't work quite as well backwards. Glad you enjoyed it!

Regards to retro: an interesting perspective is coming from PAL land, where a lot of games were never released.

I had an Action Replay 2 which is a cheat cart, but also worked as a region hacker - you stick a foreign cart on too and a local cart in a second slot. The device would try and read region from the back cart but run the top cart.

Didn't always work, and when it did, it ran NTSC games slower and shrunk in one dimension. I ran a fair few games like that. And some games I kissed out on entirely because they didn't work even through the adaptor.

Regarding:p1p

Player one podcast is my favourite podcast, full stop (translation: period). But there is a sad side effect, I've noticed.

Having listened to every episode, you get quite intimate with the cast. You learn to know their quirks and stuff, and it's like you are meeting up with them every week. EXCEPT, they don't hear or know you.

It's like you have some close friends who ignore you. :(

I know it's an unfair analogy, because that's just how it is, but it is an odd feeling. I dunno, maybe you see where I'm coming from.

Did you guys hear that? I dunno...it sounded like maybe somebody was talking, but I don't see anyone here. It musta just been the wind.

Did anyone hear that? I'm not sure what it was but it sounded like maybe someone made a joke, but I'm not laughing. That means it must've just been that man-child from P1P whose jokes I never laugh at anyways...

;-)

Man I totally agree. I listen to a normal episode of P1P 3-4 times a week falling asleep (no, not that they bore me) or as background noise and I sometimes wish there was more than just the podcast. Also it helps Phil a little since sometimes when I'm really tired I laugh at his jokes one time out of those 3 or 4. It's like I'm giving him all the chances he needs.

So none of you guys started your podcast history with Gaming Steve. Who is the guy who keep making Gaming Steve jokes?

I actually listen to a second podcast with Phil. And I don't even really buy toys!

Anyway, it's more that p1p podcast is such a big part of my life now. I've listened to more p1p than any other instance of any media. I mean, hell, 9 seasons of Simpsons is about 100 hours. What's p1p, pushing 5-600?

Really enjoyed that episode :)

Nice to hear Rich wasn't too harsh on my first (and only shipped) game I worked on ;)

CJ really hosted this with real authority too.
