I don't get why would CJ get so worked up about all the Nintendo Should ________ Comments.
My guess is it's because the "________" is often some terrible, poorly thought-out idea.
I also love the assumption that Nintendo doesn't have an absolute mountain of market research and data. Of course, anecdotes about your sister-in-law's confusion/apathy generally trump those.
There seems to be enough reason to doubt Nintendo's market research or at least their interpretation of it. Designing a low power draw system seems like a great idea given Japan's struggle with electricity. It doesn't seem like such a great idea when no one buys it.
Yet, they are still in the situation they are right now.
Hmm. Guess I was wrong. And wow, that's bannable.
Haha, this thread is turning into *exactly* the type of conversation CJ and Mike were trying to avoid.
Exactly. It's a challenging market even with good information and resources. Imagine what a shambles it would be if these things were decided based on the whims of people with none of that information.

I think Nintendo should get back into the cereal business.

I seem to recall this being delicious.
How dare we discuss and share our opinions on the matter. Where do we get off?
Oh, come now.
My point was not "don't share your opinions"--I hope that's relatively obvious.
I was making an observation that people on Twitter and podcasts etc. have a tendency to either minimize Nintendo's effort to understand the market or just assume they invest no time or money in it at all.

Kinda glad someone called out mik's "$700 Dell beats next-gen consoles" mistake. Kinda odd he only half-way backed from it. He's not ridiculously far from reality but a $700 Dell doesn't even play the current cross-gen games comparatively (AC4 and BF4 ). Mik is my fav and it kinda hurts to see him fall for the old purchase justification through reality distortion fanboy trope. Tsk, tsk![]()
Not sure if I said "beats" or "is comparable." But I didn't intend to even halfway back down from that. I guess I could post screens of what AC 4 looks like on my machine and you could verify whether it's purchase justification or if the games actually look comparable.
Things will certainly change and my now two-year-old PC will not pump out graphics comparable to the PS4 once those games improve (at which time my PC will be three- or four-years-old). At that time, I can decide whether another few hundred bucks worth of video card to close the gap will be worth it.
(also, I think I said $800--that's what mine cost)
I don't have any ACIV screens, but there are some ACIII and Metro Last Light (and Tomb Raider, and Crysis 3) screens here:

(the Tomb Raider one will certainly be an example where the PS4 version looks better, but that's the clear outlier for now--and it still looks much better than the PS3 or 360 versions)

Really good podcast this week. I don't like a single Sega game so Greg being away was only half bad. Speaking of Sega games it was kinda ugly how CJ scolded Phil (and Phil's ultimate surrender) on bashing that one guy who showed up last year to promote his game that ended up being one of the most talked about wrecks in recent history, up to a point of possible class action lawsuits. Yeah give that man a break, he's your friend.
Wait, what? Do I only talk about Sega games?
You're close personal friends with Greendog, so I can see why someone would make that assumption.
There were some disturbing revelations about Mike this episode.
Is it more disturbing that I'm not even sure what would be disturbing?
Has there been a Podcast of the Year thread yet? I could make one this week if there hasn't been.
Okay, "disturbing" is overstating it. "Shocking." I'm shocked you like Lightning so much.
Yeah, she had me at "You want quiet? Better take the next train." <3
(if it helps explain my psychosis, I also really liked Rinoa)
(also, I think I said $800--that's what mine cost)
My video card cost that much, peasant.thanks lightning
A $700 PC could definitely beat PS4 and 360 today, but probably not in a year from now. You can get a hell of a video card (gtx 770) for $300 and the rest is gravy, easily under $400, especially if you shop yourself.
Wait, what? Do I only talk about Sega games?
It was definitely a pre-built Dell. That's what I got: an $800 Dell. Easy peasy--and it's been terrific.
