The Player 1 Podcast Topic

Ummm I don't know what CJ was going for on his MS exclusive line of thinking. He first says that he doesn't care/matter that the games come to PC. Then he starts lamenting that same fact, by noting that he wants games to be exclusive to the console.

I don't care and it doesn't matter that the games come to PC.

I want Microsoft to continue making and funding exclusive games for their platform - PC and console. I don't want them to just "drop" Xbox One or cut first party support to a trickle. When I say "exclusive" I mean Xbox One - games that are not also coming out on PS4. At this point I just assume PC will get everything (whether Steam or Windows 10) - and because I don't have a PC at home, it doesn't factor into my thinking.

Thank you for the clarification.

I would add that having the games come to PC opens the landscape for MS to fund more games IMO. As they have another line of revenue for their titles. I believe that people overestimate the overlap between Xbox owners and PC gamers. Also the value of console driven revenue outside of licensing.

I will say KI3 on a PC is great. I play often on the Xbox One and I fired it up last night on PC just for shits and giggles, since your purchases in KI are cross platform so everything was there, and thanks to my PC specs being great, it was a much better experience on PC. Everything is great there.

You might be right, but that sorta hinges on the popularity of their big Windows 10 platform push and whether people start buying games in big numbers on the Windows 10 store. I hope it happens!

At the moment, I have yet to buy one of their games from the store. This revolves on the technical issues they have with the implementation. Once those get resolved, I will engage. The same way I do with Origin, Uplay, GOG and Steam.

I love when Ethan is on the podcast. I relate a lot to that guy when it comes to "the Internet" reacting to things. Great episode fellas.

Thanks Stewey. I don't usually laugh out loud when I'm alone but the thing CJ's parents do when CJ and his brother are playing Contra was unexpected.

Really agreeded with phils point on the Arthur geis stuff. The guys writing about video games and needs to get his head out of his ass.

Been a while since I heard that Gies name about, figured he left the industry. Guess I've just not been reading his junk.

I haven't finished this week's show yet, but I hope Ethan doesn't say "critical path" too much (so far, so good). He's a really great guest, but everyone has to have a flaw, and his is that little piece of jargon. :)

Kevin buying the Persona 4 anime is probably going to ruin Persona 4 for him. I suppose it's not as bad as the Persona 4 Golden anime. lol

Having seen quite a few anime based upon games, I can say... I've never seen a decent one. Same goes for games based upon anime (in general).

Haha that rough?
I think animation-wise they cleaned it up.

So no more of stuff like this, but it doesn't really service the story that well. It tries to cherry pick the best moments and stitch them together with some new scenes to try to create a complete story.

Persona 4 Golden is worse in that it's completely incomprehensible if you don't know the Persona 4 story, since it's just mostly the Marie stuff taken out of context and stitched together to loosely follow the Persona 4 school year timeline.

Yeah, my understanding is that the Danganronpa anime isn't that hot either. Neither was the Devil Survivor 2 one.

I'll stick with those old Fatal Fury movies.

Hoping Kevin is able to find what I presume was a problem cable in his new setup. Nothing worse than that sort of troubleshooting...

Re: "Critical path," I noticed it because in one episode, Ethan said it, like, three or four times in a minute or less. Now every time it's like a bell goes off. (I'm OK with it being said, just not *that* much)

Google hangouts sucks on the mac, messes with my audio. WOn't be a problem again.

Oh yeah, I'm shocked Ethan had so much trouble with the final boss of Star Fox given that he had allegedly mastered the controls. No where else in the game is it so obvious as to which screen you need to look at or which form of the arwing you need to use. Those aspects are so cleanly divided that it feels like the first part of the game that was finalized and everything else was put in to build to that.

Also, bosses are the best part of games, and CJ's opinion on the matter explains why he inexplicably dislikes Platinum games.

Kevin, you've sold me on Persona. Now I just need to figure out how I'll play it. Would be nice if it was available on Steam.

You can get a refurbished PSTV for $30 on Amazon. You don't even need a memory card if you get the physical version of the game.

Speaking of PSTV, hey CJ, have you tried using Remote Play for 60 fps games that make you sick? You can force games to play at 30 fps by not enabling the high quality mode, I was wondering if that would help.

This Uncharted conversation is going to save me some money. I enjoyed Uncharted 2, but I really don't have much more interest in the series.

Also, Doom 4 on PS4 had a 5GB day one patch. It's still a lot, but nowhere near 50GB, thank goodness.

Episode 497: Much A-Doom About Nothing

This week! Ethan joins us to talk Uncharted 4 (spoilers through Ch.5 from 1:00:10 - 1:26:37), Doom, Severed, Pocket Card Jockey, Disney shutting down Infinity, Eurogamer’s piece on Lionhead, that video of someone playing Doom who’s not very good at shooters, and a whole bunch more. Join us, won’t you?

Just wanted to clarify that the same guys who did TLoU and UC4 also worked on UC2. They just carried over what they learned in TLoU into UC4. But it's made by the same guys from UC2.

Day one patches and installation times will only be an issue until the Retro VGS / Coleco Chameleon / its next manifestation finally gets released in all its glory, and then we will be saved.

How many chapters deep into Uncharted 4 does the spoiler talk go? A lot of real world commitments have limited my play time.

Is Ethan the new perm 4th chair? Caught up to the last 4 eps and I was surprised he was in all of them.

I noticed he referred to the show as "we" this episode (still listening right now). I'm happy to listen to him on the show as long as his schedule permits him to participate.
