The Player 1 Podcast Topic

Just wondering, are all future P1 podcasts going to be Youtube-ified?

I wouldn't say for sure that yes they will all be. For now it's an experiment to see what people think of it and if being on YouTube would get us some new listeners/viewers. If people don't find it terribly offensive or like it then we will probably keep doing it.

we need the full crew to judge it.

I skimmed the youtube podcast (since I always listen at the office) and I have to say that I expected you guys to dress up.

I know for sure that CJ will. He looks like a man that knows when to wear a Tux and the podcast demands a tux.

I'm just saying that i phelt disappointed.

Not offensive in any way. Hope you all can increase the viewership that way.

Podcast was fine, you all are too fussy

How long is Pete going to guilt trip FYFYI listeners over not voting in podcast thread. I'll remember you next year dude, I promise!

CJ has a new podcast! http://streamon.libsyn.com/

I'll check it out this weekend

It's true. Stream On has commenced existence! Comments and suggestions needed and welcomed. I already know the sound quality is rough and will be working to see if I can improve that next time 'round. Hopefully there's value in listening to an episode even if you've not seen the movie that we're talking about. I thought this turned out quite well for a first effort.

That is a really neat idea...but what the fuck at the movie??

What do you mean? Lockout was the perfect candidate to watch and talk about. It was largely ignored at the box office, I definitely wouldn't even bother buying a movie like that sight unseen on DVD/BRD, and the only way I would even give it a go is via streaming.

That is mostly what we'll be doing on this podcast - finding movies (or TV shows) within the netflix library that you probably haven't seen (and likely with good reason) but could be funny/interesting to discuss. There are many podcasts about popular movies. This will not be one of those.

This week's episode is up and you can enjoy it in two ways!

This week! We're back to full power with all four regular hosts. And we talk about Steam boxes, Android consoles, Pokémon X and Y, Fire Emblem Awakening, Ecstacy of Order: The Tetris Masters, Trauma, Far Cry 3, Dead Space 3, Tokyo Crash Mobs, God of War Ascension, 10000000 (PC), collector's editions, Android/iOS, HD makeovers, Dead Island's zombie bust, and more!

I'm curious, who chooses who will be in the main window of the chat? Or does it switch automatically when it picks up someone talking?

Cool. I haven't watched this yet at all, but I suddenly realise that I really have no clue what you guys look like at all, after all these years of listening. This is true for many podcasts for me, but not all. Will be pretty strange to suddenly have faces pop up in my head when listening after all this time.

Tokyo Crash Mobs! Mitchell's (hopefully) triumphant return! I think Greg or Phil liked their earlier games, so that plus uncharacteristic wackiness on Mitchell's part makes me hope that the discussion is positive.

We're sorry to ruin the show for you. :)

Absolutely not - I was just pondering the choice that you guys have given me. ;) But I've given it a look, and after accepting that you're nerdy, middle-aged gentlemen just like me, I've moved on and appreciated being able to actually see the finger. ;)

It is. I'm the only one that bought it so far though. Wow it is a weird game, but fun. :)

Good episode. I disagree with mik about the story of FC3 falling apart at the end. It kind of just kept pace with its general awfulness throughout the game. It was a bad story in the same way as all video game stories are bad. Like all other good games though, it had no impact on my enjoyment of the experience and actually, it was easily the most entertaining shooter story of the year. I don't think I've ever so thoroughly despised the protagonists in any other work of fiction. Shortest midget yada yada yada but that's the state of the industry right now.

I'll never understand how people get enraged by a story like FC3 letting them down while praising some of the most rote, adolescent, bile filled drivel that passed for a story in games like Halo 4.

As far as Ni No Kuni, the reviews seem to be saying around 40 hours. Pretty pumped to get that and The Cave tomorrow.

Earlier in the story you at least had promise - and you could see how things may resolve themselves. Eventually the story pooped on Santa's lap enough times that you realized you can't clean those Santa Pants and you're stuck with shit no matter how many more kids sat on your lap.

Or something.

The story never had promise. The minute that fucking twat started talking about his dad's credit card it was not salvageable. It was the video game equivalent of Girls. Though now that I think about it, I would love to play that if only so I could go with the "slit throat" option at the end.

But just so we are clear, this was my favorite non-strategy game of the year by a mile. Absolutely loved it.

Lots of fun to play, not fun to pay attention to closely. My god so many issues. I hear you. I can't help but feel the game was ordered to include a second island and villain...after the team was happy with the first island.

I think I really only finished the story so any prompts from the game to do a story mission would disappear. Once I learned that you can continue to play once the campaign is over, I really blasted through those missions. Now I'm back to having fun taking over camps, exploring, and hunting critters.

I thought the plot was fine and fitting (apart from coming off the rails near the end) when you consider the gameplay and the whole tone of the game.

The whole game had an over the top action movie vibe.

Do people think it would be a better fit to have a story and tone along the lines of Spec Ops or something?

I just think it would be better with less story. "Survive the island" or "escape the island" is plenty for me in a game like Far Cry. Hell, even "rescue your friends" would have been just fine, but they couldn't stop there. The more they added, the more they fucked up.

FC3 showed flashes of being a really cool THING. Like...

First island spoilers re: Buck:
You did all that shit for Buck to get your pal back - and during that, I was like "man, how messed up would it be if Buck was actually a really creepy dude, like it seems to be suggesting, and was just raw dogging my friend and ruining his psyche" and then you find out he was. There was this undercurrent of insanity that doesn't even play into anything later

Second island story spoilz:
But then you have Hoyt and his issues, and the entire second island plays out like a straightforward shooter, generic story. It's not HORRIBLE, but it goes off the rails early on in the second island, then takes a rocket off the rails and into the sun when

Very end spoilers:
Citra wants you to kill your friends. There is literally NO reason you would want to do this. I mean ZERO. The game doesn't even suggest there being any positive to that! It's just nuts. I don't even...

That second island and the rest of the story must have been some executive meddling. It just had to.

I know that I wrote that I would never update the original post, but please forward me awkward screen grabs so that I can make them the 1st part of the 1st post. I REALLY want to make the podcasters work for that top 5 ranking at next year's NeoGAF vote.

Alternatively, I will accept Steam gifts as protection. *just beginning the podcast*

i already knew what they look like but seeing where they sit to podcast is a bit eye opening. Mike looks good with a beard.

This is where I sit to podcast (on the red brothel couch):

I'm looking for some additional podcasts to get me through the work week. As someone that's a regular listener of The Giant Bombcast and 8-4 Play podcast and mostly enjoys those, how likely am I to enjoy this one? Is it going to be alot of redundant gaming news compared to the other two?

MarkMacD listens to them during breakfast. Fully endorsed!

They're good, fun conversations.

Oh, the bottom. Yeah, that's kind of normal in matting/framing. The top and sides are all equal and you add anywhere from a quarter inch to an inch on the bottom.
