The Player 1 Podcast Topic

Man, I didn't finish last week's before this week's episode.

So basically sitting at my desk at work I go from stool/semen double-transplants, to singing and o-faces, to erotic fanfiction.

People kept asking me if I was okay because I was trying so hard not to make any noise laughing and it just sounded like muffled struggling from around the corner.

We're recording in about 40 minutes but it won't be livestreamed so no YouTube. But I am gonna try and get the audio up tonight.

Thank you. I was getting worried.

This week! The countdown to the release of another two next-gen consoles enters its last month. We take a look at some of the news on the PS4 and Xbox One that broke over the past week. Then we take a right turn into the games we’ve been playing which include Beyond Two Souls, The Wolf Among Us, Grand Theft Auto V, Wind Waker HD and Pokémon X. Plus: the Xbox One’s friend activity stream, games that weren’t what we expected, space for new consoles, game delays, horror-themed games and more!

Episode length is 88 minutes.

Holy shit, Mike mentioning Viking: Battle for Asgard is the greatest thing. What an underrated game. I bought it on sale and was surprised at how good it was. I even double-dipped on Steam.

I did. Or--I am. Or something. It was free on PS+ and I played about the first three hours but haven't gone back to it. Don't remember why I stalled, but I did really like what I played. Just a cool, no-nonsense action game.

Pretty much. It's a gateway drug into Warhammer 40k. Good stuff. I went back to replay it and it holds up pretty well.

Complaining about the kerning in a game's type? I knew I liked you for a reason, Mike.
Well, I can't bloody well sit idly by and pretend some shit like this is ok:

It isn't ok.

Happy 7th Birthday, guys!

Oh, a bit random but I thought I'd ask - when you guys use Google Hangouts to stream, does it provide a usable audio version that you could use for a podcast?

I am using Callgraph to record Skype conversations, but it looks like Skype is killing that software by the end of the year.

I believe it's -

Greg - PS4, Xbox One
CJ - PS4, Xbox One
Mike - PS4
Phil - PS4

But I'll likely cancel my Xbox One preorder. There's not much at launch I really want there - anything I'm really interested in playing is multiplatform on PS4 as well. And with Wind Waker, Mario and Donkey Kong coming out on Wii U plus a new Ratchet on PS3 right around that time I'll have plenty to play without an Xbox.
I'm glad Greg is sticking with his preorder so we can get some impressions from him. From what we're hearing it could be very interesting.

Congrats on the run guys, POP is one of the best gaming podcasts out there.

Haven't listened to the whole ep yet, just wanted to chime in and say good on the guys for calling out the enthusiast press for their silence. They don't want to do any actual reporting because that might affect their access down the road, it's disgusting to me honestly, and it's one of the main reasons why I don't visit major gaming sites anymore.

I would much rather visit a site that put up late reviews and actually reported on things gamers are talking about. I want to hear opinions from like minded gamers, or at least gamers who don't have a hidden agenda.

Congrats on 7 years guys, I can't believe its been that long, I've been listening since damn near the beginning!

Great show as always this week, I love that you guys are honest about your opinions of gaming journalists and the gaming industry as a whole, I think an angel gets its wings every time Mike takes a jab a Geis :)

Keep it up and here's to another 7 years!

I've only been listening for a little over a year but I have to say this is my favorite podcast now. Keep up the good work guys.

Constructive criticism-wise, I think Phil should do the Bane voice more often.

Apparently it takes him 2 months to cancel an Amazon order

Since they don't charge 'til it ships there was really no harm in keeping it in case a killer app like Geometry Wars 3 was announced. :D Better to have a preorder and cancel than want a system and have to deal with launch day lines n' crap.

Though I'm thinking I'll still go out launch evening and interview folks in the lines like I did with PS3 and Wii.

Definitely do this!

The interview idea is a great one. I'd also love to hear a segment on a future show comparing this launch to the previous generation. I was SO excited for the Wii, with Twilight Princess and especially the virtual console and classic controller. I'm very pleased with my Wii U, but I almost feel like I'm getting the PS4 out of a sense of obligation or that I might miss out on something, rather than looking forward to a specific game or feature.

Good to hear a podcast where the participants actually sound like they're passionate about conversing.

Interesting that it was furries, threatening children, and making fun of games media that inspired it, rather than new-gen.

I think my grandfather had the Animalympics on betamax.

I'm not surprised CJ cancelled his Xbox One preorder. I'm not so hyped for the next gen. Partly because there's nothing announced that makes me want to get a new console, partly because I'm still kinda attached to the current generation. My backlog's enormous, I can play Battlefield and Batman on the computer and I'm fine playing Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed and FIFA on my 360. I got a gaming PC a few months ago and it's gonna make it easier for me to wait for Sony and Microsoft to make a more compelling case.

I think it was you guys, apologies if it's not (I listen to a fair few podcasts on my commutes!), but I was sad when I heard the Batman villains outside of the top tier being described as shitty. I'm a bit of a nerd in that regard so that was one of the things I loved about Origins. I know who Bane, Joker and Croc are, who the heck are
Anarky, Electrocutioner and Copperhead
? What's their story? It's kinda cool, I dunno. Gonna assume Deathstroke falls in between the two groups since he's not a top tier Batman villain but he's manly as all hell.

I don't know if I described 2nd tier villains as shitty. My point is that I dont find them compelling enough to get all that excited. I still want to play the game, though.

I can't decide if I like Batman Vita or hate it. How long did it take before it sort of clicked with you Mike? I feel like every time I pick up the game I feel completely different about it.

Totally hate the motion comic stuff. Just so tired of it.

I don't even pay attention to the motion comic stuff.

I think the game started to get good for me once I got the electrified Batarang and could wander a little more freely.
