You're probably right. I want Florentine and Adkins to get a shot at a low-to-mid budget Hollywood action movie so bad. I feel like it could be another John Wick scenario. People are hungry for this stuff.

Yeah, to be fair, action isn't as good as it once was but it is in better shape than one might think.

To each their own. I have to think about the ranking of a bunch of these films. But instantly I have fury road at number 1 on a list for this century. No contest there for me.

Dark Knight as an action movie is kinda borderline to me, doesn't fit in with the others in that list at all.

Mad Max was the only possible no. 1.

Some of the best fight sequences in all of cinematography.

Just re-watched Fury Road, second half of the movie takes a dump on the whole first half build up.

crazy no bond

...this is literally a thread about a list comparing them both as action movies.

Don't be dense. There's a world of a difference between action movie 1 > action movie 2 as opposed to excellence in martial arts choreography > excellence in car-driven stuntwork.

Mad Dog meant something different to The Raid than Joe did to Fury Road. Mad Dog meant more by consequence of serving the emotional high point of the action and Joe was more part of the world-building and iconography of the world. Raid needed Mad Dog to be Mad Dog and Fury Road didn't need to have him fill the same need because that movie's goals were entirely different. So using that kind of villain comparison doesn't illuminate any qualitative differences between the two films.

I don't think I'd put either volume of Kill Bill in even a top 20. Tarantino isn't great at shooting moment-to-moment action, though it's fair to say that he can make up for it with all the tension he's capable of building. Vol. 1 isn't even the best action film that uses Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood for a huge climactic moment.

Speaking of, The Good, The Bad, The Weird is way too damn low.

Glad to see Edge of Tomorrow is listed in the top 10. Probably one of my favorite movies on the that list. Wonder if they will end up doing a sequal. Not sure what they could do but man that movie is awesome.

Havent heard of Exiled. Is it the 2006 Chinese film? Need to check this out now.

I'm glad that list has The Good, The Bad the Weird, The Man From Nowhere and Shoot 'Em Up on it.

I know it's not going to be on many people's lists for good reason but I love D.O.A. if for no other reason than Eric Roberts being hilarious in it.

Good list. I'd probably take off Non-Stop and replace it with Taken and find a way to get Equalizer on the list, but otherwise it's a solid list. I'm happy to see some movies that I like, but seem not to get much recognition: Edge of Tomorrow and Unstoppable.

It was like every other Mad Max movie but with the plot excised and the franchise's third best villain.

Immortan Joe is easily the most interesting villain in the series. His status and reputation within the world, motivations for his actions, and imposing (yet deceptively so) look, put him on top for me.

I'd also challenge that it's like every other Mad Max movie as even in comparison to them, I'd say it's squarely its own thing. It's a new kind of monster.

Noticed they had Time and Tide in their near miss list.

It should be in the top 10, but at least someone involved with this list knew what they were talking about.

Better than I expected honestly.

- I'd put The Raid at number 2. I like the setting and crazy art direction of Fury Road better, but in terms of action the are both amazing.

- I'd take out Edge of Tomorrow from the top 10. It was a fun movie, way better tha I ever imagined it would be. But not top tier

- I understand why it's there but I'm not a fan of Kill Bill. I don't know, I'm a fan of tarantino and I like japanese inspired stuff, but for some reason Kill Bill is just "meh" to me. Tarantino is top tier in his dialog and the way he builds tension, but not so much when it comes to action

- I would easily put the new Dredd in the top 10

Thanks to this list i just watched John Wick and holy shit I'm glad i did. It was a better Max Payne movie than the actual Max Payne movie. I don't know what to say other than "fucking awesome".

Gonna check out Raid 2 (loved the first one) and Edge of Tomorrow next.

This is such a bizarre sentiment. Fury Road has a plot. It's a good plot. It's not a complicated plot, but being complicated has never been the requirement for a good plot. And it's not really a much less complicated plot than Mad Max or the Road Warrior.

Avatar behind factual garbage like Lucy, Non-Stop and Blackhat? Man, just fuck off already.

And John Wick is such an incredibly overrated movie jesuschrist.

Mad Max is the only position I can agree with.

CTRL+F "Speedracer" 0 Results found. This list failed.

Sad how much Speer Racer's excellent set pieces are overlooked.

John Wick was too on the nose. Like it was trying to be a throw back to something that never actually existed. The action was of surprisingly high quality I'll give it that but nothing on the Gareth Evans (The Raid) movies

Also The Raid 2 > 1

Raid 1 Mad Dog was better though
