Well... Netflix has put up the films of Studio Ghibli in their lineup. But you can only watch them outside America since HBO Max bought the streaming rights.

Already watched it and YES! One of the best things on TV ever, I absolutely love it.

If you enjoyed Dark you might like 1983 which is another foreign language Netflix produced show albeit this one is Polish. Not sure if there's a season 2 sadly, but the first one was good. It's kind of like an alternative history show wherein the soviet union doesn't collapse. I'd also say The Last Kingdom which is a BBC/Netflix Co-production is well worth a watch. It's a Viking period historical drama based on the Novels of Bernard Cornwell who wrote the Sharpe books. It's a little formulaic in places but entertaining enough with some good characters. Not quite as showy as Vikings (but also not quite as turgid either), but Netflix coming in from Season 2 greatly expanded the budget and they don't skimp on the extras.

Also as others have said you can't go wrong with The Expanse on Amazon. I'd say Peacher and Into the Badlands are decent enough, the latter is pure guilty pleasure TV but it's entertaining enough.

If you enjoyed Breaking Bad, but not gotten on board I'd say Better Call Saul is worth it. I'll admit the first season is pretty slow, but it gets going in the second and it's interesting to chart the transformation of Bob Odenkirk as Jimmy McGill into Saul Goodman as well as how Mike a retired Ex-Cop becomes embroiled with Gus Fring.

Also American Vandal on Netflix Seasons 1 & 2. Absolute quality mockumentary sending up the whole Crime documentary scene. Highly entertaining and well worth a watch.

You weren't kidding, shit's crazy!
The interviews from the soldiers and civilians were very captivating and gripping. I couldn't imagine how brutal fighting was for the people living in the South. But really everything around the war seems to turn to chaos especially back in the US. From the crazy government policies, to Nixon's scandal, JFK assassination , to HO CHI MIN praising Amerian in the 50's, and to the gruesome attrition tactics it's one fucked up part of history for sure.

This has been on my to watch list for a while but this reminder has moved it up a few places. Sounds fascinating

I highly recommend this series. Tales of the Loop can be hauntingly heartbreaking, but it is one of the most beautiful shows I have ever seen. 💙

I’m so glad to hear this is being well received. I’ve got the books for the tabletop RPG of this (although I still haven’t played it yet) and love the art that originated it all. So I was really interested when I heard it was being adapted into a show.

A Young Doctor's Notebook

A really great show with Harry Potter and Don Draper. Unlikely pairing and it works extremely well. Don't let this not so great trailer fool you, the show is awesome. It's not overly long, so it has a very well-planned beginning, middle, and end, which is a huge plus compared to shows that overstay their welcome and stretch.

Mini series of 6-8 parts can't remember exactly anymore what.

It's about a guy that loses his daughter in a magic room that can only be opened with a specific key, ( every door where the key is used on opens that magic hotel room ), he finds out fast that there are more objects as they call it that all do different things and give people powers.

It's probably my favorite mini serie i have ever seen and always rewatch it every year as result.

Burn Notice on Amazon Prime. After Monk, it's perhaps the best thing to come out of the USA network. It's basically a modern day "A-Team" with much better fight choreography, and stunt work, and Bruce Campbell. It also went on for seven seasons. If you watch an episode per night, it should take you just under four months to finish the show.

Most definitely! I learned so damn much from the doc. The war was far more complex in it's origins than I could imagine. I still can't believe the man who started the whole Viet men once considered America his ally and looked up to their views of freedom and independence. Policies were initially made in good faith, In fact many presidents tried to avoid military conflict for so long especially JFK, but the ever increasing threat of the Cold War caused terrible policies to be made, and in the end we backed a corrupt government in the South and became corrupt ourselves.

I watched The Stranger on Netflix. It was solid. It gets kinda out of control and wholly unbelievable but it’s entertaining and keeps you intrigued all the way.

Watched these two for free, felt weird just being able to play them without any kind of login or sign up bullshit.

Lego Movie 2

Detective Pikachu

Please recommend us something to watch in this period.

I'm into stuff like True Detective, Mind Hunter, The Alienist, what do you recommend, gaf?
Too old to die young.
But it might not be for you as its very slow and too artsi.
But if you can sit through it you will have watched one of the most disturbing original shows ever.

Also ozark is a must as well as fargo. New season coming this month.

The boys is fucked up as well.
And here is a show i found last year that blew me away: The leftovers.

Last month I watched The Outsider which I really enjoyed.

Based on Stephen King's best-selling novel of the same name, "The Outsider" begins by following an investigation which at first seems like it will be simple and straightforward but things change as it leads into the gruesome murder of a young boy by a seasoned cop. When an insidious supernatural force edges its way into the case, it leads the investigators to question everything they believe in.

I started watching season 2 of The Terror today as well. Other than that I started with Devs, but I’m going to let the season finish and binge that one.

Hulu :

Mr. Inbetween (season 2 is out now, great dark comedy)

Devs (season 1 still airing, mindbending atmosphere, intelligent series that questions reality, space, and time)

Netflix :

Castlevania (good anime, very dark and brutal)

The Platform (neat indie flick, very disturbing)

Ozark, Altered Carbon, etc ... all good.

Here's my "watch list" of other random stuff :

Not one mention of Ozark?! Boo!

I‘m about 5 episodes into season 5, every episode so far has been pretty intense. I think this and Narcos have been my favorite Netflix originals so far. Mindhunter is pretty good but there are only 2 seasons and I’m not sure what the status of the show is.

It's weird to quote myself, but I just started watching this again because of this thread making me think of it in the first place.

Fuck, this show is good! Jon Hamm plays a doctor later in life and Daniel Radcliffe plays the same guy fresh out of medical school. As Jon, in present day, is being questioned for something in his office, he finds his old notebook and starts reminiscing.

So he is actually inside of his memories and talks to his younger self as the past plays out for us, the audience. And, all the while, it becomes clear that the present day man is a morphine junkie.

So in his memories that are playing out for us, we see him long for the morphine that his younger self doesn't think twice about and can see him going through stages of withdrawal as he's progressing through the questioning taking place in the present day. Really meta shit and fucking awesome.
