The Red Star released?

Well my theory is that GA stands to lose a lot more in talking about game piracy than music piracy. This is Gaming-Age Forums, and many industry insiders peruse the forums and post here. And if we were to condone the talking or implementation of game piracy, maybe they would feel insulted at something that we would make light of that which they feel is important to them, and maybe we start to lose some faces and gain punks who are looking for HAWT HAWT 0-DAY NFO RELEASES.

Then GAF would lose its identity as the cute little forum that somehow gets groundbreaking news as fast and as exclusive as the big boys. And more and more people in the gaming business will stop giving GA.com games to review or interviews or what not. Then there's the whole law thing that could get all of GA as a whole shutdown, and then where would we be? Gamefaqs, that's where. And if I have to read one more post about saying things that Solid Snake would never say or about who's better, the Alien Hominid with the red hat or the Alien Hominid with the Russian hat (WELL GEE I DON'T KNOW IS THE RUSSIAN HAT USING SUPER SAIYAN POWERS?), well I'm just going to have to find a way to punch people over the internet.

Oh and GAF is not a democracy but a crazocracy and all that stuff :p

There has always been a bit of a double standard about piracy. Even admitting to pirating games or movies has gotten people banned (despite not being warned against in the TOS), whereas there are entire threads dedicated to the discussion of leaked music and pirated anime/manga.

To the mods' credit the music threads have been getting shut down recently though (MIMIC and some other dude got banned over the 50-Cent leak). Stealing anime/manga still seems to be acceptable though ;)

OMG dude..no one gives a rats ass that someone was demo'n a pirated game. Geezus its like we got kiddie police here ready to change the world over warez. Nothing is gonna stop warez, its a waste of time trying to make a diffrence

Get off my fucking jock dude. No one gives a rat's ass? How about the people that developed the game and are now looking for a publisher? I can't wait until they ban your fucking ass.

The piracy thing is relatively recent though, a couple of years ago people could admit that they pirate games and nothing would happen to them. Posting impressions of pirated material would get your thread locked and you'd be given a warning. Now *just* admiting to pirating gets you an instaban.

Meanwhile, in OTland, people link to torrent sites. :P

Chris Gossett sent me this:

Actually, that's not a pirated copy. It's either the OXM demo or the OPM release. As far as the kid saying it was an 'import' there isn't any evidence he knows what he's talking about. He's probably just trying to sound cool. Not a big deal. I've tried to register on the GA site to reply but I haven't been allowed to post yet.

Could you help me crush that rumor, Kent? I'd appreciate it.

The only torrent sites that I see linked in OT are to the TV show sites.....though technically that is still piracy.

As for what Chris Gossett said, it is hard to tell what the torrent version is without actually downloading it. If it were an official "warez scene" release it would have been nuked if it were just a demo. But torrent sites will post up pretty much anything, so who knows what it is?

Are OXM demos usually over a gig large? I've done some looking into it, and that's how big this game is. IIRC, it's 1.1 gigs, which certainly seems big for a demo.

edit: I've thought more about it. This release is an unsigned code release. Normal Xboxes can't play games with unsigned code, so demo discs would need to be signed. This further leads me to believe that it's probably not a demo, but rather a full version.

I could be wrong, but it's something I've thought of.

I doubt it's a demo. For one, someone already claimed in this thread to have the game...she/he would have already said it's fake and is a demo. And as Ecrofirt said, it's too big for a demo. A game like Red Star having a 1 GB demo? There must be a lot of cinematic CG's.

I can safely say it doesn't as we simply didn't have the resources to do so. That said, I do hope that this doesn't hurt the chances of TRS coming out, as we'd all very much like to see it come out if there's any chance of that remaining.

I'd very much like for the final product to come out as well. The game looks phenominal.

Have any publishers expressed interest in it at all?

I dinna think you know what the banning was for. Or that was a terrible attempt at sarcasm. :P

Remember that wee rule about piracy? Oh yeah.

How do you know he wasn't a game reviewer and what he got was a legitimate review copy or a demo?

I have no idea personally; the bank currently has the rights to it, so that's something only the trustee would know at this point. Your guess is as good as mine on that one.
