The Screen Savers is officially dead...

The Screensavers has been dead for some time now, which is a shame for a number of reasons, not the least of which follows:

IÂ’m not annoying. Come on... Irritating, grating, nauseating? SureÂ… but hardly annoying!

As for Attack of the Show:

We knew everyone was going to “hate” the new name, just as most people hate any change (good or bad); but at least give the new show treatment a chance before dismissing it entirely.

The entire team is quite proud of the new graphics/set treatment, and weÂ’re all really excited to show it off on the 28th.

Seems like a risk if you guys know that everyone 'hates' the name. Shouldn't a new name be at least...I dont know...less silly?

And is the show heading to a new direction? Or is the content gonna remain the same?

The promo made it seem like they were going for an underground/hardcore theme..

I haven't contributed to most of the G4 hate on GAF because, well, I've been hiding this for a long while...

...I love your show. I love you. I love the way you do your thing. Do it. Keep on doing it. Tetsuya shout out? Oh man was that hot. Attack of the Show? More like, Attack of the Demi when I'm through with seeing it, because I will love you even more.

Kevin, be mine.

Desperate for attention,

demi

I think most people don't like Kevin P on the show because they disagree with some of his opinions. Just look at the G4 forums back in the Pulse days when he said ANYTHING about Nintendo.

I met Kevin at the San Diego Comic Con last year, and he actually had a good reason why some people may like City of Heroes over WoW.

You can start by telling me what in the blue hell "Attack of the Show" even friggin' MEANS. Somebody obviously came up with the name, pitched it, and got a favorable response for a reason. I'd just like to know what kind of thought process, if any, went into that.

I really don't care about "OMG! they ruined TSS!!!1" Really, I just want to know what a group of what I assume are relatively smart people were thinking when they came up with that name and decided it was something worth trying to market.

You know what I didn't hate? The original Screen Savers show.

I think Kevin P is a great host. He's got a quick wit and he's usually pretty funny. Kevin Rose is slow in comparison but I think that just makes them a better pair. I like Brandon too though he's kind of useless on the set. He's best when he's at those showcase conventions being a total ass to people. It was great when that Subaru attendant gave him shit for his crappy driving on that simulator and he just walked off with a dejected look in his eye. :lol

I don't know. People here just bitch and moan any time a show goes past a few seasons. It's pretty much a GA cliché to talk about the "good old days" of any particular show when it was awesome and how (insert company/producer/whatever) destroyed it and it's no longer good to watch, yet they continue to watch, giving fuel to bitch and moan.

If the new format sucks, then complain.

If that was true, you'd think more people would rag on X-Play. It seems like they blast the GameCube a lot, more so than Kevin P or Tommy that I've seen anyway. A week or two back they had an animation with "Capcom" on a parachute and "Gamecube" on some guy that was falling.

I don't think they actually hear what X-Play says, since the kiddies are too busy staring at Morgan Webb.

We do make the occasional comment on the state of the proverbial Nintendo union, but it's not hatred or anti-Nintendo sentiment. It's more like cuffing the ears of the student you know isn't doing as well as he could be.

That "Capcom/Gamecube" parachute thing was mine, BTW, in the GTA:SA review. It was a double-meaning, in the sense that if it were truly anti-Gamecube, I would have had the plane on fire. So either Capcom's getting out before they're doomed, or they're bailing out of a perfectly good plane.

Also, it was a vague reference to the "BAIL OUT!" running gag on GAF, but I don't think anyone actually caught that.

As I was at the GDC wrapping up some stuff, guess who I saw outside the exhibit hall talking to someone?

It was cool. Talked to him for a few seconds, shook hands. I miss those days of the show.

Not that I don't enjoy Kevin P's antics. Ran to him briefly before the Microsoft thing at the GDC. The day before, they even featured SPACED (which I tried so hard to bring here back in 2001... sigh...)

BTW, my favorite comment about G4 is the OLM.net ads - how they went from "OLM hosts our boring family site like snickerdoodle.net!" to "OLM will get you laid!"

My post wasn't an accusatory finger pointing. I was mearly pointing out the rather sensitive nature of some of the Nintendo fans that frequent this board and the general trend of "hatred" toward guys like Tommy Talarico because of supposed anti-Nintendo sentiment. In any case, of the things that have been said regarding Nintendo, I thought X-Play was more brazen about Nintendo and their current state than the other two guys mentioned.

Don't mind me. I actually thought that was kind of funny and interestingly enough, I was reminded of the whole "bail out" fad at GA when I saw it. I think if someone were to make an image macro of it and use it here though, they'd likely be roasted. ;)

Lucasfilm will never allow Spaced to air in the US.

a> This was 2001, back when we were trying to get it on PBS.
b> We were beaten to the rights by Bravo Canada who bought the North American rights in a 4 year exclusive. Bravo TV in the US is different management, but the same parent company (and so they had the rights). They had no idea what they had, and after much work by Nick Lee, myself, and a handful of other people, they finally aired the entire series TWICE on US TV in 2002.
c> With the release of "Shaun of the Dead", now people know about SPACED and because it's all NBC/Universal at the helm, they aired the series again (the same Bravo edited version for language) 2-3 times starting around the week the film released in theaters on Trio (Channel 315 on DirecTV at the time). After SDCC, we gave the entire history we had (of the rights and such, and every contact name we'd acquired at the time) to Focus/Rogue to put that broadcast in motion. I should e-mail Erin to ask to see if they're doing anything special for the DVD release of Orgazmo at the end of the month.

The stuff they're talking about is for a US DVD release. Thanks for playing, Mana.

Have you not seen the Tommy Tallarico video? I'll post it again. He says there's no such thing as a Halo or Xbox fanboy.

I saw Edgar Wright say not too long ago (well post SOD release) that it was highly unlikely that there'd be a US DVD release not just because of Star Wars, but because of the costliness of ALL the liscensed music from the Ninja Tune stuff to the theme from the A-Team.

I love TSS... or ATTS? Whatever.. Kevin P. is an awesome host. He's funny, and even made fun of Pee Wee's Playhouse once, but I dont hate him for that! I loved when he had a "click-off" with Kevin R

I'll check it out, but if you knew everyone was going to "hate" the name - why go with it? Is it company policy to make stupid name shows? :lol

Oh, and if you haven't noticed already Kevin - there are a lot of cynics here. Don't mind them/us too much.

I like the new name, has a nice cheesey low budget 60's monster movie undertone.

I like "The Screen Savers" more, but the show was supposed to be mainly about computers, and it was getting more and more away from that lately.

ATTS will probably end up being changed before long, though. Comparably, there was a radio morning show here in Atlanta called "The Don Miller Morning Show", yet there was no Don Miller on it. I thought it was brilliant, but as morons always outnumber people such as I, they had to change because no one "got" it. I think ATTS will fall into the same trap.

How am I a faker.... just because this kpereira(who is using his name in his handle once again...a thing you critized me for doing and a reason you gave for me being a fake) has posted more recently then me? He also only has one post ever on GAF and hasn't posted ever again so you establish that he is the real deal how exactly?

Dude, give it a rest already. You want to prove this is you? Fine, judging by 'your' blog site you obviously have a picture-capable cellphone - a Treo 600, in fact. Take a snap of you doing the 'westside' signal while winking one eye in smug superiority and post it here. Go ahead, we're waiting...

Well this isn't Gamefaqs, so you're gonna need proof

I don't know about the other K.P. account either, but I really don't care

Just because Kevin Pereira isn't an immobile Everquest nerd with hair to his ass doesn't mean he's a shitty host. The guy's quick, he knows what he's talking about, and he's occassionally funny in a Conan O'Brien sort of way. Annoying? Sure, there are times when his bad jokes and Sarah's perkiness form to create a wave of annoyingness with a huge amplitude, but he's probably the best aspect about the show. As I said in the other thread, if you're gonna bitch about TSS, focus your hatred at Brendan who sucks complete ass.

Oh, and

TSS > X Play

Pereira is OK. Honestly, I liked Alex Albrecht better than both Kevins. He dished up some pretty funny moments during his tenure.

Ok, the show may still be good, but it is pretty much impossible to defend the title. That has to be one of the dumbest names I've ever heard for a TV show. I tried to give G4 a fair shake when they merged with TechTv, but it's just gone down hill so badly. I'll still tune in for Xplay and Icons, and look in from time to time on The Screen Savers, but that's about it.

*Continues to shed tears for TechTV*

Alex had great host-friendly charisma, but man they didn't even give the guy a chance. They were basically pulling him off stage the first episode in...

Wow I haven't watched TSS in a long time... isn't Kevin P off of that one news show on G4? Shoot, that might not be on anymore either. PULSE! Thats the name of it.

The only show I seem to watch on G4 is Icons from time to time :(

Pulse has been gone for awhile, but yeah Kevin was on it now and then.

Yep. G4 just doesn't seem to have a vision of what they want to be. Besides that, they dumped, or let go, that heavenly vision- Sumi Das.

Love the Sumi Das.

She's a reporter for MSNBC now I think.

Its OK I was just informing Mana on why he is believing this other Kevin just because he is the most recent to post and he is using his name as well( a reason Mana judged me on when claiming I was a "fake"). That is all.
