Not media but easily some of the most shameful clickbait shit I've ever seen.
Because they came in with a $2mil goal, but then said "Well, we have some nebulous 3rd party backing, oh and also need $10mil on the Kickstarter to do it right."
Frankly I think the Kuchera's piece nails it, albeit somewhat snarkily.
There's no story because nothing's happening, so they just make shit up for clicks.
Fuck em, the game has already been funded and is coming. These corporate shills who sign NDAs and work as PR men for the big boys can find their Judas gold elsewhere.
They'll not be flown to a nice hotel and resort to play through Shenmue 3, like MGS or GTA or invited to Guitar Hero concert/afterparty. That has to effect their thought process.
Have you read all of them? I'm assuming that they must have definitive proof that Sony is indeed funding the development of the game, right? Not just providing support. But actual money into the development of the game. Because that seems to be the major crux of the argument.
I know it sucks. But i don't think linking to the BS articles will help the situation
Don't give them any more clicks
BS articles? They all have solid points if you actually read them.
Either way they're funding development on the game, whether it's through direct investment or development investment or even just launch and marketing support so the point is rather moot. It's obvious that Sony has a both a stake in the success of this game as well as a say in how it was announced and likely how it will be developed.
Some of the articles take umbrage with the way this was obfuscated for a time after the announcement, and is still questionable to this day.
How much negative press has Underworld Ascendant (and others) received for keeping the crowdfunding going after the kickstarter? Not such a good story?
So what is your excuse for repeating the claim that sony is funding this, months after they've clarified they aren't?
Uh, you said they were well researched. How does assuming things equate to research?
When this game comes out how much do you guys wanna bet these people all double down because that's all gaming journalists seem to know how to do. Double down when they're wrong instead of just being a man/woman and saying "Hey you know what? I was wrong. I've learned something from this."
I really hate the ego/pride that it seems like a majority of the gaming writers seem to have. I mean shit, it's not the end of the world to just say "I don't know" or "I was wrong".
"I can say with their assistance on the production and marketing end, and in Sony's case with some publishing support as well"
Sony is putting money towards Shenmue III. Not in the production sense but in other ways that are equally important to a successful game.
What's the assumption?
I don't know, most people just seem to want a conclusion to the story.
Gaming journalism being little more than vultures fishing for clicks?
Color me surprised.
Shenmue 3 is the highest grossing video game kickstarter to date. Of course, it's going to get more coverage than other Kickstarters. And some of that coverage is going to be negative, especially after some other big-name Kickstarters disappointed fans.
That Sony is funding the game.
Sony and Shibuya Productions have been wonderful partners because they believe in Shenmue and want to see the best for the fans and the game," Suzuki said in an update on the project's Kickstarter campaign. "Their investment in (and support of) Shenmue have helped to realize a sequel that will stand proud with its predecessors. While it is not business practice to discuss the specific details of such arrangements, I can say that with their assistance on the production and marketing end, and in Sony's case with some publishing support as well
It's downright embarrassing. It's hard being a Shenmue fan once you've met Shenmue fans.
Sony *is* investing on the game, just not fully funding it. As for the $10 million, Yu Suzuki basically said that's amount needed to let him make the game he's always dreamed it could be (and no, it wasn't the maximum amount, he had stretch goals beyond that).
Yeah exactly, they're not funding it. You wouldn't know that from some of the articles though. It's misleading.
Other Kickstarters have nothing to do with this one. You can't judge this one simply because there have been other disappointing Kickstarters.
I mean other indie games have been disappointing. Would you be happy if journalists wrote negative prognostications (Because that's what a lot of these ridiculous articles are) about the outcome of your game simply because there have been other indie RPG games in the past that have disappointed?
LmaoI guess if you lack basic reading comprehension skills it might be misleading... :-/
People want to see this fail for some reason. Nothing stops this dream though; let them talk.
The game can release and be a good game, while at the same time having a questionable funding campaign and period.
Both of these truths can exist at the same time.
Shenmue fans need to take some deep breaths.
Make me wonder how much of the shit is a result of some Microsoft bias, which was quite the thing in the US press with all the defence for Microsoft's original Xbox One concept.
I'm guessing you haven't read the articles?
They're not nearly has venomous are hateful is making it out to be.
Holy fuck this thread is hilarious.
Why does this even matter though? All I care is I get what's promised (the game) for contributing. How they allocate my contribution, what other funding they receive, etc is not relevant. Just like any other product from a store, I'm paying money to own it and that's where my inquiry ends. Only difference is that I'm paying for this in advance.
If someone is not comfortable doing so, nobody is forcing them to back it. But playing misguided detective while pretending to white Knight gamers and consumers is really insulting and frustrating as some of us have waited over a decade for this pipe dream of a game to happen. Who knows what hoops needed to be jumped through to even get this project off the ground. If someone's not interested, that's absolutely fine, but shitting on the parade under the facade of "fair investigative gaming journalism" is bullcrap.
Isn't the obvious difference that this crowd funded? Of course will people expect more transparency than with something like DestinyThe press were jumping on the project for not revealing instantly that Sony were partially funding it. Bear in mind, we rarely hear about these deals fully regardless, save for Bloodstained explicitly confirming publisher-deal and court documents with Activision/Bungie over Destiny, but the general attitude from the press I found was appalling.
But they're being so mean to Shenmue IIII!!I swear, if people actually looked at the content of the articles, this thread would have died a peaceful death.
We know for a fact that Sony is funding development in some way:
How is that not clear?
Edit:
Am I being shameful?
